The display on the computer of my Passat keeps going really dim to the point where I can hardly see it then other times its crystal clear, what it could be or how I could fix it?
View 12 Repliesjust had the car in to be tinted...drove home, parked...and now the center trip computer display will not turn off. cars off, doors locked...it just stays on.
The guy who did my tint has a VW tatoo and loved the ride...he knew it had a euro switch (not installed by me), and said he had to disconnect the battery while doing the job because the headlights wouldn't go off unless the key was out of the ignition and he needed to roll the windows up and down (obvi).
My friend stopped into see me today cause he thinks I'm a VW guru. His LF tire was at 34 psi and the other 3 were at 44psi. Of course his low tire pressure light came on, but he told me he used to be able to see his tire pressure under the comfort portion of his computer display. He scrolled down to show me it wasn't there anymore. Where it went? He now knows why the light keeps coming on cause he has a leak. He should be able to monitor it I presume.

About a month ago, I started my car and the computer started beeping saying STOP! check coolant...so i did....it was on empty...this was rather weird to me because i remember seeing it on normal like a week ago....so i added the coolant to the max level in the tank.....Two weeks later it was on the MIN level line....so i added some again....then a week later it decreased a little again.... it would seem that its a leak....however i do not see any wet spots under the car...it seems that the coolant disappears due to driving the car... Could it be the coolant? Also, how does G12 coolant differ from regular coolants sold in auto stores?

View 4 RepliesI have a weird problem with the AC on my 2001 Passat. Every so often, evidently at random, the computer will show an outside temp that is far below actual. It will sometimes drop to -58F, even when it is hot outside. It won't always go that far down--and it eventually returns to the true temperature. But when this happens, the AC turns off, or the heat turns up (I have the Climatronic thingy). We have to shut the climate control off altogether in order not to roast. Turning off the car is not always a fix for this, and neither is turning off the AC. I suspect a sensor of some kind has gone bad, but the dealership wants an exorbitant amount of money just to dig deep enough in the car to discover what is wrong. This has been going on for 6 months, in all weather, but with greater frequency lately.
View 3 RepliesThe computer apparently calculates the fuel economy per trip (or a series of trips if the car is stopped less than 2 hours) but I don't know how to get it to display the fuel economy for the tank full. Normally I'd reset the computer upon refilling but since it calculates per trip it doesn't calculate per tank. Fortunately the fuel gauge seems to be pretty accurate and each mark is approx 1 gal so I can do a quick approximation but I'm used to having the car do the tankful calculation. BTW, I reset on MFA 1, I've never reset on MFA 2 and that doesn't show tankful economy either.
View 3 RepliesPulling out of the driveway my 2004 Passat's computer told me there's an issue with the coolant and that I should STOP, so I pulled back in. My VW dealer has this coolant in stock (G12, red) but considering it is 7 degrees outside (or minus 14 C) I wonder whether I can't ignore the warning and drive the 2 miles rather than get on my bicycle.

View 4 RepliesI have a 2007 Passat 2.0T with 5000 miles. I love the car, handling, comfort, power, refinement and all related but had a big shock when I went to the VW dealer for 5000 mile check. The service tech said my car had a optional computer software upgrade to regulate the intake valve (mostly to keep it from sticking open). I thought it was fine to do the upgrade EXCEPT when he said that if I did the upgrade , I would lose the gear indicator lights on the center dash between the speedo and tach! .....so, I would no longer have visual indication of Park, reverse etc....or indication of 1,2,3,4,5,6 for the tiptronic tranny mode. Why or if you have been able to do the software upgrade for the intake valve, WITHOUT losing the the indicator lights on the dash?

View 7 RepliesI tried changing the settings but all I could get done was F to C and the trip number to KPH.
The digital speed display would be real useful here as the cops are sticklers in the city about the speed limit.
Will the VAG cable do it? I'm still trying to dig it up but most of our stuff is still in boxes.
Started the car on Saturday and drove about 2 miles. Chime came on and display read something like "check gas cap" or "tighten gas cap". Went off about 10 seconds later and never came on again. Cap was tight. Might weather have something to do with this? Beastly hot that day (98) and tank was half full. Never saw that display before.
View 1 RepliesI tried to find this by searching, because I know it has been addressed before, but I just can't find the answer. In the Multi Function Display, there are 2 modes. They are indicated in the upper right hand corner of the display screen, as a small "1" and "2". I am on "2" now and want to get back to "1". I can't for the life of me remember how it's done. If you know the reason for these modes as well I would really like to know.
View 6 RepliesI just bought a 2006 passat manual version and have had it for 4 months or so. Im curious as to how to get the speed display in the middle MFD screen. Everything else (consumption, speed warning, range, route, travel time etc) works, however it when i switch to the speed option, it never shows me my current speed.
it only shows a random number (ex: 26km/h and that just gradually increases as a drive regardless if i slow down or speed up.) Ive tried holding the select button, however it just gets rid of that number and turns into dashes then goes back to doing the same thing 30 seconds after driving. How to get this to work?
I have cut of the battery, and when I reconnected it and turned the ignition on the climatronic display was blinking for approx 10 seconds, and after that worked normally. What could happen to it?
View 2 RepliesI just picked up my car from the body shop and noticed the outdoor temp display in the MFD blank (3 dashes) and the AC is blowing hot air. I don't hear the compressor going on either. The AC was working fine until I brought it in. (Why does it always end up like this?!)
Since this was an insurance claim due to a motorcyclist hitting the front driver panel and ripping off a portion of the bumper, the body shop said they didn't touch anything with the AC.
I'm bringing the car back in tomorrow morning so they can have a look and determine whether it was loss related. Is there a sensor in that area? What to check? I have the manual climate system (climactic?).
With my B6 '09 wagon, when I turn off ESP by pressing the console button, the icon flashes on the dash display and then goes out. Is this working correctly? I would think it would flash when ESP is on and it has encountered slipping and corrected. With the button set to off, I would think the light would stay lit on the dash?

View 3 RepliesOn my way home from work thursday my gear display was blacked out. gears 1-3 work normal but i do not have 4 and 5 and no tip mode. car work find before i got to work.the crappy part is my car has low miles under 90k and i take very good care of it.
