Passat (B5) :: Clicking Noise From Fan

Oct 26, 2012

So after getting my car back after 7 days. Was getting my Heater core replaced. I now hear a clicking noise from my fan. Doesn't matter if its hot or cold it makes this clicking noised from the Fan. It does it from Low to Mid but stops at high speeds.

What could it be? Here is a video of the sound. [URL] ....

Passat (B5) :: Clicking Noise After 2 To 3 Minutes While Idling

When the engine is cold and I start it, everything is just perfect. After 2 to 3 minutes while idling I start hearing a clicking noise, which is not loud, but I don't like it. I'm sure that there was no noise before. I cannot locate the exact location but it is surely somewhere near the air filter. When I'm close to the front right wheel the noise is most clear and when I lean back behind the wheel.

Passat (B5) :: 2000 Will Not Start - No Clicking Noise

As the title states, my 1.8 liter manual will not start. No clicking noises, nothing. Once inside the car, the lights and the auto lock work, but the radio, auto trunk, auto gas hinge, windows and radio will not function. The radio says safe mode. I checked all of the fuses, and all are fine.

Passat (B5) :: Clicking Noise When Accelerating For About First 10 To 15 Minutes

When I turn on the car, I let it idle for about 2-3 minutes and then I drive off. When I do, I notice that there is a clicking noise for about the first 10-15 minutes while i am pushing the gas pedal. After that it seems like it has been warmed up. My dealer said it could be the drivetrain or the exhaust....I dunno who or what to believe.

Passat (B6) :: Loud Clicking Noise From Glove Box

I have 2 b6 passats. Both of them are rattle free except for this clicking noise that is all the time and loud from the glove box. It does it any time the car moves or hits a bump. If you put the slightest touch on the glove box, the noise stops. If you open the glove box, the noise is still there.

Passat (B5) :: Clicking Noise When Start 2001 Wagon GLS V6

2001 Passat Wagon GLS v6 - 83k

Just replaced the drivers-side taillight and hood strut. Been a week or so since the vehicle has last been started as it is sitting in the garage. When I start the vehicle, it will turn over a bit, cranking away, then start clicking (pretty quickly).

If I pay careful attention while it is turning over, I can hear the door locks making some noise, kinda like they are trying to decide whether to lock or not. I will also get dash light flickering on/off. turn-turn-turn / click-click-click

I know it is not the battery. All power works fine when the key is just in the on position, no dimming, etc. Though it seems to be something electrical with the weird noises I get while trying to start.

Passat (B6) :: Noticeable Clicking Noise In Dash Area

So I pulled the trigger and got my B5 a little brother... found an awesome 07 4mo wagon sport package with all the bells and whistles with low miles and at a great price. I just couldn't resist. So far I'm loving the car and the extra ~50% hp over the old 30V

I did notice some very noticeable clicking noise in the dash area. It seems to be related to the Climatronic moving flaps around to change air distribution. At random times it starts clicking (kind of a relay sound) a few times in a row and then stops or sometimes it continues clicking in different patterns. When I press the off button on the Climatronic controls it stops immediately.

I'm kinda thinking that it's probably the normal way Climatronic works in this model but it I'm not 100% sure (and the 2001 was silent in that regard) so I want to make sure that it's not something abnormal (like a flap sticking and the sounds I hear is the system trying to flip it a few times before giving up).

Is the clicking normal or should I have the dealer take a look at it? I'll probably take it in soon anyway to get an alignment (car doesn't pull to the side & tires look evenly worn but the steering wheel is about 5 degrees (rough guess) to the right when going straight.

Anything else I need to look out for with this car? It has about 35k miles and all services so far have been done (incl. oil changes every 5k). No open recalls besides a "silent" service action related to the battery cable or something like that (according to the dealer where the car had been services - I called them up before I bought it). There was no major repair work done to the car like the dreaded oil pump bolt issue. Would that even be a concern for an 07 (car was built in Feb 07)?

Passat (B5) :: 2002 GLX Won't Start - Clicking Noise When Key Turned

Just got back from the supermarket. Unloaded groceries and my Passat wouldn't start when I went to park it. Turned the key and it just makes a clicking noise - clock and trip odometer reset themselves also. If I turn the key the car just makes a clicking noise and the lights on the dash all flash on and off.
I am going to see if it starts after being jumped in a few minutes.

Other potentially useful info - I was testing a radar detector for work the other day and it has a battery voltage meter. It was reading in the 11.0 - 11.6 volt range. Is this too low - just wondering if the alternator was not supplying a sufficient charge. Not sure how accurate these are. The battery was changed around a year ago so I'm sure it's not the battery. I am assuming starter or alternator.

Passat (B5) :: Clicking Noise Coming From Dash Area

2001.5 Passat 1.8t auto 98k.

It sounds as though I have a relay in the relay panel behind the headlight switch clicking on and off while I am driving. I searched the archives a bit and through my own reasoning, I figured it is not related to the hazard switch or turn signal stock ( I could be wrong though).

Description: It only clicks while I have my foot on the accelerator and the car is in motion, never other wise. It is not dependent on throttle location; it clicks the same way regardless of where the throttle is as long as it's being pressed. The clicking stops completely when the throttle is not being pressed.

Because of this, I am unable to locate the exact relay that is making the noise as it is impossible for me to open the door and look at the relay panel while driving. The clicking is some what erratic; It will click, pause for 2-4seconds click again then wait anywhere from 2 to 10 seconds and repeat. It's driving me nuts. Evap? Is this normal? Can it be stopped?

Passat (B6) :: Clicking Noise Coming From Under Glove Compartment

I hear clicking noise on my 2006 vw passat 2.0 T. The noise comes from the passenger side, sounds like it coming from under the glove department, but i cannot be exactly sure. Also the clicking noise appears when I drive ... but it's hard to hear, and when i slow down or when i"m at the complete stop. It does not appears all the time, but randomly happens.

Passat (B5) :: 2000 1.8T - Clicking Noise And Decreased Power

Had my 2002 passat in for service to get my turbo replaced... wastegate had begun to fail and was causing a horrible clicking noise, decreased power, etc. Brand new turbo makes the car like a rocket and I love it. However, I am noticing what seems to be different behavior in this turbo compared to when I first bought the car. As I get the car up to mid 3000s on the tachometer, the turbo is nice and kicked in, but begins to waver...I hear the whine noise sort of going up and down and I see the tachometer twitching, going up and down slightly to moderately.

I am not changing how much I am depressing the accelerator so it seems to be just doing this on its own. The car was serviced by really excellent guys local to me who specialize in VW and Porsche performance. I am worried that something is already screwy with the turbo, or maybe this is how things are supposed to be. The car is functioning great otherwise...no check engine indicators or any of that sort of thing and the turbo sounds great but I am concerned that this odd fluctuation behavior with no direct cause from the driver is a problem.

Passat (B6) :: 2007 - Subtle Clicking Noise When Driving

My B6 only has 1500 miles and I have noticed after I had the dealer replace a defective fuel rail w/only 400 miles on car a click'n noise when I am driving.

For example. When I take off from a stop, and accelerate to lets say 15-20mph and then take my foot off the accelarator, let the the engine(rpms) idle back to normal, and then re-accelarate again, immediately I hear a "CLICK" (only one x, and its not a really loud, its kinda subtle, but still you can hear it from inside the car) coming from under my feet area, very briefly and then the car takes off.

At first I thought this was normal, but of course I could not dismiss this, seeing that this is a brand new car, and figured........"well it shouldn't".

BTW, I just tinted my windows (35%) on my black B6 and it looks fantastic.

Passat (B5) :: Clicking Noise From Front Driver Wheel

Over the last few days I've noticed a clicking noise coming from the front driver wheel. This clicking has been getting louder, everything seems in check, no crazy vibrations, or vering side to side and all lugs are tight. The clicking stops when the break is applied, could this be break pad warning chippers? I have yet had time to take wheel off and look.

Passat (B5) :: 2002 - Clicking / Knocking Noise When Make Turns

I've been hearing a clicking/knocking noise when i make turns recently and was wondering if it could just be hums in need of replacement... I have a 2002 Passat, so I think its a bit early for it to go but ya never know. If they are the hubs, what causes them to wear out so quick and around how much they'd be to replace (in parts...labor varies). The noise is only when I turn, no noise at all when driving straight.

Passat (B5) :: Clicking Noise Coming From Passenger Side Behind Glovebox

I have a 99 B5 which my wife drives most of the time - it has just passed the 150k miles and owes me nothing. But it has recently developed an annoying clicking noise coming from the passenger's side somewhere around or behind the glovebox. I have emptied out the glovebox and tried turning off the climatronic and the stereo but cannot locate it.

Passat (B6) :: 2007 - Clicking / Ticking Noise When First Started In Morning

My '07 2.0T 6MT has started making a clicking / ticking noise when it is first started in the morning. The car is garaged, so it doesn't get all that cold. The noise seems to be coming from behind the center dash, in the area behind the climate control and radio panels. It doesn't last particularly long (maybe 3 seconds, clicking perhaps 3 times per second or so). It happens whether the radio is on or not, so it's not the CD changer shuffling discs or anything like that. I suspect it has something to do with the Climatronic system's ducting.

I had a Saab that made a noise similar to this, and they had to disassemble the entire dash before they found that the drum that directs air to the various vents was sticking. It ended up costing $1500 in labor to do the job. So I'm looking for a sanity check before I send my dealer on a long, expensive hunt that will likely result in a "no fault found" or "could not duplicate".
