Passat (B5) :: Car Turned Off By Itself While Idling For Less Than A Minute
Jun 21, 2008
So my car was fine when I drove to the store, with no AC on. After that, I wanted to drive to a hotel, which is 1/2 of a mile away. Before I drove there and after I started my car, I blasted my AC (turning up to #3). On my way there the car was fine. When I drove into the parking lot and braked, the car suddenly turned off by itself showing the battery light. After the car turned off by itself, the fan (not AC..
AC doesn't run when engine is turned off) was still running. I freaked out, immediately turned AC/Fan off and restarted it. It was successful after the first try. So my question is...what caused the car to turn off by itself? Is it because of my AC? I know FOR SURE...it's not because of
1. timing belt because i recently changed it.
2. battery but i installed a brand new last summer.

2004 Prius with 109,000 miles. It's been in an accident before (and you can tell, the front right fender is a bit misaligned and the doors have a paint covering abrasions).
However, the car is making a ticking noise every minutes or so. The sound is originating in the Hybrid Synergy Drive converter inverter box and about every minute for about 5 or 7 seconds or so there will be a ticking or clicking noise. This happens when the car is idling, driving, and even a minute or two after car was shut off. The mechanic next door to the dealer didn't know what it is and the dealer is giving me a 30 day. What could this clicking be?

My 1997 ford f150 4.6 triton runs hot after 1 minute of idling. I changed the two coolant sensors, flushed the radiator, and changed the thermostat. I also went to have a diagnostic done at two different places and nether one could get a reading....

When start my Caprice (1986) carb-- I used to step on the gas pedal (half step is more than enough) to start the car.
Once the car started it's idling normally, but suddenly after 3 or 4 minute the sound of engine go high idling as if I stepped on the gas and that is remaining for long time even if I step full gas, and if I turnoff the the engine and pull out the key, the car will remain working hardly and shaking like crazy before it completely stop.
What is the problem with my 86 Caprice Brougham? is that problem easy to fix?

my car turns off sometimes and takes a minute or two to turn back on. also when I turn on the car all my warning lights come on such as check engine or check oil. Could it be the computer in my car? if so can it be fixed?

When I turn the A/C on for the first time everything is o.k. Say I drive to the store, park in the sun, come out 20 minutes later, start the car, turn on the A/C, and for the first minute or so the air blowing out smells rank. What gives?

So naturally I thought a nail had punctured a tire leading to a slow leak. When I got home I found no nail and the tire pressure on all four tires even but down to about 36psi.
I refilled to my normal of 40/38 and reset the TPMS with the button below the steering wheel. The light stayed on for a minute or two of driving then turned off and stayed off for my commute to work.
What I think probably happened is that I reduced from 42/40 to 40/38 recently without a TPMS reset. Then this morning the temperature outside was 55F and about 65F in my garage. When I left the garage at 5:20AM the TPMS light was off. I drive about 2 mile to the gym each morning and park my C for about an hour. This morning, when I got back in the car the tires had cooled to 55F and I guess that was enough to reduce the pressure far enough to trip my warning light.

I have a 2015 Plug in Prius and a Samsung Galaxy S5. I am having terrible bluetooth issues. It connects fine then after a minute or two the bluetooth on the cars gets turned off. I can turn of engine and turn it back on and it connects again for couple of minutes after that the bluetooth on prius shows turned off. It is terrible.

My car has this issue where I'll drive with the hot air on and it will be fine until I am say slowing down to a stoplight, all the sudden I will begin to hear this screeching sound. Odd thing is when I turn off the hot a/c it tapers off after maybe 5-8 seconds. Never had the belts changed which what my first thought but I thought you all would know more about this issue. What it might be?

I'm wondering if top tier gasoline is better for our car's. I had a 2002 Camry that stopped idling up with the A/C turned on. I was told that the only way to fix was to replace the throttle body after it was sprayed with some kind of cleaner. No adjustments as the idle is set by the car's computer. Don't want to go through that again.

Whenever I turn on my A/C and the car is in idle, it will turn off. Then I have to put it in park and turn it in again.

1995 dodge neon... When I turn the car off, it burps, or bubbles air into the overfill tank. Car now also overheats when idling or in stop and go traffic. Temperature goes down when running heater. Not sure if it is the water pump or an issue with the radiator.

I got a b5 passat and when i start the car and drive it even when its warm if I don't let it sit for a minute or 2 and i just take off it will make chirping sounds like something is spooling but chirping until about a minute or 2 could this be my turbo ?
I feel like the turbo isn't getting enough oil or something into it so its making this kind of sounds until it gets the oil.

I have a question about smelling burning oil. I have a 2005 passat 1.8t (4 motion) with 80,000 miles. Once in a while I smell what smells to be burning oil. It usually happens when the car is warm and sits and idles for a min. like when you would be at a stop sign and doesn't last long. There doesn't seem to be any blue smoke coming from the exhaust either....

I've got a 2004 1.8T 4motion passat and when it starts cold in the morning it makes a loud noise for a minute or so then it stops and is normal again, I'vev been told by a local autoparts store that it is possibly the auxiliary/secondary air pump that needs to be changed to fix this poblem. if it is the air pump how hard is it to change and do u need any special tooling to do it or is it fairly straight forward to change?

My problem is on my gf's 99 Passat. Its the 1.8t and runs and drives fine. The abs/brake light is blinking which from reading seems common and I have to send that module out to be rebuilt. The issue I am having right now is every once and a while it wont start. It will crank and crank and finally start like a minute later. She's convinced pumping the gas pedal works but I don't think its fuel related at all as it smells flooded when it finally starts. Ive replaced the plugs, air filter and still does same thing.

My 2006 Passat 3.6 developed this problem very recently and wanted some opinion as to what could be wrong before taking it to the dealer as it's now out of warranty with 115,000k.
Basically, once the oil reaches 90C, the car will stall after idling for a few minutes. The revs will hover at the 600 mark, and it will just stall. I can turn it back on right after without any issues and can also prevent this from happening by keeping the revs up myself while stopped...
The idle is also a bit rough: the revs are stable on the tach, but I can feel some vibration in the cabin which wasn't there before...

Just noticed the other day the Passat was idling significantly rougher than usual, most of the time it's smooth as butter but not so much lately. It's not rough like a bad misfire, just not very smooth anymore. This could be indicative of the dreaded oil-pump bolt failure rearing it's ugly head (finally)?

I was going downhill. And I accidentally popped the car in neutral. Its a 2.0t fsi automatic transmission. And after putting it back in drive mode. The car went to 2nd gear and jerked the tires. I had to put it back in neutral because it was revving high rpm and it wouldn't switch. After I came to a full stop. The car was idling on 2500 rpm on neutral. I got an intake installed and replaced the pcv valve with one I got from ecs tuning last week. I am assuming I have a transmission problem.

I have appointment to bring my 2006 Passat 2.0T in for service but what might be causing the issues. Car surges when I am idle or beaked at a stoplight. It sort of feels like I was pushing both the break and glass pedal at the same time. When I move I no longer notice it. However when I put the car in park it the RPM's seem to go up to about 10 and back down again.
