Any Manual release for this.. say if the battery goes dead or the car gets flodded.. Basically no power.. a situation happened the other day and with the flood and all damage occurred.. and tow truck could not get the e-brake out with the electronic braking system...
View 3 Replies2006 VW Passat VR6 4Motion - started the car and the electronic brake light was on. Pressed to release it it would not release. Pulled the key out and started and turned off the car several times still nothing. Tried it again and it released the electronic brake lights. Is it something I should worry about. By the way called the friendly local VW dealership when I got the "release electronic brake manually" and none of their techs know how or if that could be done.
View 1 RepliesI went skiiing this past weekend in Angel Fire, NM. When it was time to leave on Sunday I started the car and proceeded to undo the parking brake (I was parked on a n incline). As I press the button I get a message saying something like "Electronic Parking Brake Fault. Please Service". Then I press it again and it works. Is this something I can expect more of, or could it be due to the cold weather? It was 13F outside then at the time, and the car is a 2006 with 52K on it.
View 14 RepliesOk so this is the problem now, i went to check my fuses and pulled a #20 out to see if the cigarette lighter fuse was blown. Guess what? i start the car and all of a sudden the Electronic Parking brake failure kicked on. I tried to get the car out and now it won't get out of park! FML i heard that you can just unplug the battery for 15 min and that should reset the car but who knows... I got vw roadside coming to see what they can do it might need to get towed though

I went through a recommended adaption sequence and I'm back to square one. warning light for [P] - traction control light - display says Parking Brake Fault See Owners Manual. And there are codes for Parking Brake Control Head Electronic Malfunction...

Battery is dead and electronic parking brake is engaged. Hooked up a battery jumper and still am unable to release the brake. Is there a mechanical workaround to disengage the electronic parking brake?Need to be able to get the Tiguan out of my garage in order for a tow truck to take it to the dealer to address an overall electrical issue that is cause the car to lose power... hence the dead battery.
Yesterday there was a huge rain. Our 2009 Prius couldn't park under the carport (on slab) as we would have had to drive a ways through really soft water-logged ground in front of it. So the wife left it parked on our circle drive driveway, which stays harder than the ground elsewhere, as there is still some caliche left on it. So an inch or so of mud was on all the tires and even more mud on wheel wells. We are on a slope, so I am sure that water never got up to the underside of the car.
Today I go to drive it---fortunately it was not stuck---but have the sonalert tone going off, the red brake warning light on, the ABS light on, and the VSC light on! I was hoping it was just an accumulation of mud blocking a wheel sensor, so I took it to the car wash and washed the inside (primarily) and outside of the wheels off. Then realized that mud is non-ferrous,so it shouldn't block a wheel sensor signal anyway.
I do have an OBDII code reader.....might it be able to read brake system trouble codes on Prius? This surely is induced by mud or moisture.....what would it likely be? It has always been perfect as far as brakes until yesterday, when it got a huge amt. of mud on tires. Could maybe water accumulate in one of the sensor harnesses, effectively shorting it out?
I just noticed yesterday when I used the electronic Parking Brake. When I engaged the Electronic Parking brake, the DRL Indicator (light) on the dash went off. I did not go outside of the vehicle to see if they actually turned off (the vehicle was still running). Is that normal?

View 4 RepliesSo a friend just got a 99 Passat 1.8t and I'm trying to assist them with some issues they're having. First of all the fuel door wont open with the electronic button. I searched around and found people mentioning the fuse, but the fuse box in the dash doesn't have a fuse for the fuel door. Is it part of central convenience? The drivers window switch doesn't control the other windows and the doors don't automatically unlock, they must be unlocked individually.Is this all related? I just want to rule this out before pulling up the carpet to check the wiring.
Also when replacing the drivers turn signal the tab that connects to the spring clip snapped off. Replace only these or is a whole new assembly required?
I am new to VW. I just purchased 2 new cars on Monday of this week. A 2012 Jetta SE for my wife and a 2012 Passat SE for me. We are loving both of these cars. I have a question though. If my car has been locked for a little while, I unlock the car, open the door, I hear a noise inside the car as if an electronic motor is running. It only last for a second or 2 and I can't pinpoint the noise. It almost sounds like the power seat is moving but I don't think that is it. Hear that noise when are entering your car?
View 6 RepliesI had the light and sound show pop up on the display of my 00 2.8 wagon this week. The ABS light, the brake light and occasionally the TC light combined with a big STOP in the display and Brake Failure.
I took it to my local and he did a quick scan and the ABS computer isn't communicating, indicating it's fried.
Having issues with the auto-ebrake? My friend has a 09 passat with the push button ebrake. He was changing his brake pads when his ebrake will not release. He was told by VW to not use a c-clamp to depress them as they would mess up the sensors or something along those lines.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2007 Tacoma 4x4 and until recently everything was fine. I even got almost 75000 miles out of the stock tires. About a month after the new tires the battery died so I replaced it. Since then the front seems to have a slight vibration and a slight noise. Kinda sounds like when you hear a 4x4 with big mudder tires on pavement. Both the vibration and sound are so slight that others cannot hear or feel it, I just notice having driven it for over 5 years, mostly highway.
When rotating my tires I noticed the front "axles" (don't know the proper name) turn with the tires. With the wheel off I tried holding the "axle" while turning the disk brake but it was as if the hub was locked in. A neighbor who seemed to think he'd heard of it before asked if I'd changed out the batter or had to disconnect it which of course I had. He said that maybe the electronic hubs were not unlocking. The tires still spin freely as the transfer case is not engaged but both of the axles coming from it spin with the tires.

View 1 RepliesI have a 2008 Chevy HHR. The last few days my electronic power steering has been on and off. I've changed the fuse, but that did not take care of the problem. When I start driving each time the EPS seems to start out fine. At some point , usually mid-turn, the power steering goes out. Anytime that I turn the steering wheel I hear a clicking or switching sound similar to what you might hear when you use a turn signal. After stopping and turning the car off for a period of time and then jumping back in the car to continue the day it all starts over.

Got in my 2007 LS460 and it wouldn't start. No power, no clicking, nothing. I checked the battery terminals and noticed they has some corrosion so I cleaned them and reattached. Nothing. I found that if I jiggled the positive cable the power would light up my dashboard with every light / radio, but it still wouldn't start....and I had to disconnect the cable in order to turn the power off. I had the car towed to a trusted Toyota/Lexus repair shop I've used for 15 years. They connected the cables to the battery and it started right up....but the power steering is out. They tried multiple things to get it working with no success. The only option now is to replace the electronic power steering unit.
View 3 RepliesI have taken it to 3 different dealer service centers, and everytime they charge me to update the computer software. They still haven't fixed anything, and everytime I leave the dealer after "getting it fixed", within 25 miles the problem reoccurs. According to my owner's manual the electronic throttle control malfunction warning light is only on the Hemi Rams.
The problem causes the truck to jerk, idle improperly, the engine loses power and shuts off at low speeds usually when turning, and sometimes when the truck accelerates after a complete stop, it hesitates causing the tires to screech when it finally builds up enough RPM to move, this last one has caused me several explanations to police officers on why I am "laying rubber" on their city streets, as if the Hemi emblem doesn't attract enough unwanted attention from the local highway law enforcement officers..
Ever notice when you shut off the engine and get out of your tig sometimes there is a motor whizzing sound near the rear? Well I finally noticed what it was. Just so happened to be looking down at my electronic parking brake when the sound occurred and noticed the indicating light on my parking brake turn on and off with the sound. It must be cycling the parking brake to keep it in good working order.
