Codes P0491 and P0492 ... The Air pump works, so what's the problem? Perhaps the combo valve? If so how do I check this?
View 1 RepliesCodes P0491 and P0492 ... The Air pump works, so what's the problem? Perhaps the combo valve? If so how do I check this?
View 1 RepliesI was told that these are affiliated to a problem with the air pump (not the one you pump the tire up with) -- Need to locate the air pump? Hoping to find a loose hose or something I can fix.
View 12 RepliesSo I've had the car since Saturday and this morning when I went out to run some errands I get a check light. The codes are P0491 and P0492 which I did a search and found out is the secondary air pump and relay.
A few sites I checked (but were for other VW's) said it might be a fuse. If it is the secondary air pump or relay or fuse where are they located so I can take a look? Can I also assume they are dealer only items?
I did not even drive the car 2 times since I bought it and the check engine light came on last night. Codes show P0491 and P0492. What can be the cause and what I should check or change?
We also had a monsoon of rain in NY on Wed. I found a puddle of water in the passenger foot carpet area. It was drenched. Glove box was dry and the seat was dry. Where can this water be coming from?? Could this have triggered my check engine?
My friend has a b5.5 passat and he's getting this code; p0492... what that means? or what might be causing that code to come up?
View 13 RepliesThe CEL tripped yesterday and this is the code autozone pulled. WHat does it mean.
View 3 RepliesThe dealership wants to charge me just to "diagnose" it. I'd like to figure it out myself if at all possible. what it is?
View 1 RepliesWhere to go at this point. I've had like three different shops tell me my cel is throwing no code. I have reset the battery, the gas lid is shut tight. Just a regular stock 99 passat 1.8t with 177k on it.
View 5 RepliesCan dealership diagnostic tools read ABS/ASR fault codes, or if those codes are even stored?
View 1 RepliesI just got a 2000 V6 Passat Wagon. The CEL light was on when I got it though I bought it knowing this. The battery was bad when I got it and I replaced it. After installing the new battery . . .. . starting worked only intermittently. It got worse and at one point I had to hold the key to the start position for about 5 seconds before the starter would even engage. Now it won't start at all. I pulled the codes (shown below) when I first got it but did not give it much credence . . . I wanted to clear the codes and drive it and re-look at the codes. . . . but I have not been able to drive it.
Other observances. . .. not sure if they are related to the car not starting:
Windows, sunroof do not roll up/down while electronic locks work. The driver side window was down when I got it and I read somewhere on this forum to use the key to raise it. . .. it worked. Alarm does not work. Radio works. . . . I found it odd that though the battery was taken out for more than 12 hrs. . . . The radio code was not required. Dome light works intermittently.
I have checked every fuse and they are all good.

So my check engine light came on (2000 Passat 1.8T) and I have one of the generic code readers and got this:
1. P0102
Powertrain: Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor Circuit Low Frequency
2. P1137
Powertrain: HO2S Bank 1 Sensor 2 Lean System or Low Voltage
Now last time I had the car in they said I needed to have my throttle cleaned, but I just didn't have the time then. Could this be the reason or am I looking at bad sensors? It's weird, because the car isn't really driving any differently. I have had one side effect though, my turn signals won't come on and the hazard lights will come on, but not always. All the interior lights, headlights, brake lights are working fine.
Alright so my check engine light had came on today and i got home and scanned it and got 2 codes which were ... P0B33 AND ALSO P1136
What codes are these ? and what is causing them to give me a CEL ? and how could i fix the problem ?
So one day when I was driving, the CEL comes on, and then I go to autozone to get my free diagnosis. I got codes: P0441 and P0171
My engine is running fine and everything else seems to be in order. However, I have to get a new canister purge valve and new oxygen sensors, in order to be in the clear.
For the Oxygen sensors, I have AN IDEA of where they're located; somewhere underneath the car, by the catalytic converter (the converter is in between the two connectors, apparently). I have yet to do this and would like some opinions on what to do for it.
For the Canister Purge Valve, I have no clue where to look. I pop open the hood and I notice a diagram with labels. Great, but there are just too many other pieces to look at...I do not know if it is visible as soon as I pop open the hood, or if I have to dig deeper, or even if I have to remove the fancy plastic thing that covers the engine.
Does this mean i need new injectors? wiring harness? whats the deal here?
View 2 RepliesMy 2.0T CEL flashes on start up for about one minute as the motor shakes and sounds like an exhaust leak, then it levels off and runs fine and light goes off. No codes recorded. I have changed plugs and coils and PCV valve.

I have no clue what is wrong but I have an exhaust leak and when I am accelerating I can hear the loud shhh sound like the turbo is leaking but I still have power like normal.
Where do I start, 97 Passat VR6 Wolfsburg Edit, 01M trans with AAA engine. 140000 miles. Here is what it is doing! Starts and runs fine.....until I stop, turn the car off, let the fans cool the engine, and then try to start it up again. Then All breaks loose. Car is running rich, almost dieing, sputtering, throws ALL sorts of engine and transmission codes. Everything from MAF sensor to misfire to trans solenoids, I mean the codes are all across the board. Then I can take my generic scanner and reset the CEL and all is good for a couple of miles.
Now, here is what I have done to the car:Tranny: new synthetic oil and filter, removed, cleaned and replaced the valve body with new solenoids, and complete wiring harness, NEW Transmission Control Module. All new 3 New trans sensors, 1 Trans Speed Sensor and 2 other sensors, g38 and g68 i think.
Engine: New, Bosh,Synthetic Oil and filter, New Ignition Switch and Key and tumbler.New Valve Cover Gasket,Bosh, Plugs and New Bosh Plug Wires., Brand New Vw ignition, Brand New Bosh, Auxiliary Water Pump and rubber gromets. New tires,...Pulled floor pan carpet out and dried up mat after the rain where my daughter left the passenger side window and sunroof open. I will try to drive it today without turning any of the lights on the dash on to see if possibly I have an electrical issue with the dash and lights or something.
98 passat 1.8t has the abs light on and the exclamation point. Scanned it using vad. Nothing showed up in the scan. Also turbo whistles under load. And trans slips. Nothing showing up on vad.
