Automatic transmission died on my Variant at 100,450 miles. I did not expect to have this failure so soon, but I was pleasantly surprised that dealership replaced tranny for FREE without any questions asked, even having a fact that mileage on my car passed the covered limit.
View 2 RepliesSo couple of days ago, I went shopping. no issues. after shopping i fired it up, no issues, put it reverse, car was shaking, put the car in neutral. No issues, put the car in drive car is shaking again. i started to drive no shaking, however the car felt like it had no power, I only felt shaking during switching from R TO N TO D. So I change to manual mode and see the gear was 3rd. i was not able to change gears manually, neither did the tranny switched them for me. I drove home about a 3 miles. shut the car off, restart it...gears and car drives normal. Took to dealership, they checked it...and of course no issues. Ihave 44k miles and 50k warranty expires next week, nice, huh? got another year of powetrain warranty left.
View 3 RepliesSo yesterday after running an errand I got home, after having dinner I was about to head out and, SURPRISE! The car wouldn't start... The engine doesn't turn, no lights on the gauges when inserting the key, no clicks.... the battery seems fine, as the radio works, the anti-theft/alarm works well, the 2nd key behaves the same way.
This morning, I called VW road side, the tow truck they sent couldn't take the car because it is in a tight spot and we can shift the car to neutral. We tried resetting the ECU by disconnecting the battery without success... What to do??
I replace an AEB motor in my Passat(1998), but for some odd reason the shift screen is inactive and fail to engage. Fluids have been refilled, reverse light comes on, but no go.
View 1 RepliesI've got 95k miles on my 2001.5 and have been noticing that the transmission seems to shift pretty hard. Today it seemed like it was hardest in the 3rd to 2nd downshift. I got it checked out a couple of months ago and the dealer said it was the throttle body (which I haven't cleaned yet).

View 1 Replies2002 passat wagon 1.8 automatic 210000km and fantastic running. Last week VW garage noticed some liquid around the transmission but weren't sure if it comes out of it. Might be from above transmission dripping on to it. They shampooed the transmission and will check next week where it exactly comes from.
What to do if the dealer tells me it is the transmission. This dealer is fabulous - actually treated me very fairly during the past 8 years. Car runs like a swiss watch and don't notice anything different shifting. I believe it is not worth it replacing a transmission for this old (but very good) car.
I have a 2000 passat v6 with a automatic transmission, I was on the highway yesterday and 2x the car shifted down by itself from 5th to 4th gear. I noticed when I bought the car it had a slight tranny leak which I assumed was from the seal drying up because the previous owner let the car sit for a little bit. The first day I bought the car she hesitated going from 4th to 5th for like 3 seconds but every day after that it has been fine. I have been told by some people to flush it and get new fluid and a filter, and then other people telling me that the tranny fluid is lifetime and if you flush it your going to blow the tranny up.... What should I do, the day it acted up I got to where I was going then the car sat for about 2 hours and on the way home on the interstate it was fine like nothing ever happened. I drove it to work today there and back and again no problem.

View 2 RepliesMy transmission died last night on the way home from school. I was driving down the road just after leaving school and as I started to accelerate the car, I noticed that it wasn't moving so I pushed the pedal a little harder when I saw the rpm gauge rev. Up pretty high. The car was showing it was in 4 th gear and as I was slowing down so was the number on the display. I came to a stop and tried to move forward but noting. I had the car towed to the dealership so now the fun begins to see what is wrong with it.
I had the car in a few months ago for a whining sound coming from the car especially when I would put the car in reverse to back up. The dealer said we don't see anything wrong, go figure.
I'm suspecting that the transmission is shot. When the car was towed to the dealer I had to engage the parking break because the car wouldn't stay parked, it would roll even though it was in park.
My dad has a 92 Caprice with a v8 in it. I couldn't tell the liters. It also has an automatic transmission. I went to start it to move it today and it cranked and cranked almost like it was empty on gas. It kept making the sound as if it was beginning to start and then it slows back down to just cranking and cranking. I'm thinking something fuel related.

View 1 RepliesI have a 36 foot motor home on a 2000 Ford F53 chassis. (similar to single axle freight trucks and school busses) After getting one set of the rear wheels partially stuck, which resulted in some spinning of that side, the overdrive off light on the shift lever began to blink and the service engine soon light came on. The fault code said, "speed sensor showing more than one mile per hour". Now the automatic transmission sometimes will not shift into first gear after stopping and has to be manually downshifted, after which, it works fine.

I figured if it turned into a big problem it is still under warranty. but I am just curious considering ive driven it a year like this.

I took it to an auto shop for them to drop the pan, change the transmission fluid and filter. How do I know if changing my transmission fluid and filter resurrected or killing my transmission?

View 7 RepliesThe Golf seems to be ''stuck'' in reverse. (Long story short, my gf backed up the Golf into the driveway and she wanted to re allign herself, she put it back in reverse and once done, shut the engine. Now, the Golf is 'stuck' in reverse' ....
When I try to turn the key on 'on' while applying the brakes, I tried to put in Park or Neutral, the stick won't budge one bit! I don't want to force it either.
What may have caused this and what can I do to get it 'out of reverse'?

View 15 RepliesI have a 2006 VW Golf TDI that I love b/c I can run it on biodiesel.It has about 125,000 miles and I want to get another 100,000 out of it.The problem is that the automatic transmission slips sometimes when I slow down to about 10 mph or slow and then hit the gas again before stopping.I took it to my usual mechanic who checked the transmission fluid and it was full. He then said that there was nothing else really to do; there was no way to fix this other than replacing the whole transmission due to all the computer and electronic gadgetry.That seems crazy to me that there is nothing between adding fluid and replacing the whole transmission.The mechanic said that this is an issue with VWs from around this year.
View 5 RepliesI have been having trouble with the shift solenoid and the trans going into limp mode. I recently replaced the shift solenoid and I now have the same problem but just when the temp outside is above 90 F or when I sit in traffic or idle for more than 3 or 4 minutes. The same code p0758 comes back up. I was thinking maybe the temp sensor?
