So I am getting ready to leave my brother in laws house today I start my 2003 passat 1.8t up. like I always do to warm up it up before leaving. and I get a air bag fault light that turned on and would not go away after I turn it off and on again.

View 7 Replies2001 01 1.8t... Hoping this isn't a bad ABS module. When I bought the car, I was told it was a bad wheel sensor in the drivers side. But, the funny part about this is its not on all the time, sometimes it doesn't even come on and the dash is normal.
View 3 RepliesMy wife was driving this morning and the car stalled when she was accelerating from a stop light. Battery light came on and she could not restart the car no power. When I got there she was able to start the car again. I drove 10 feet when the car stalled again. Noticed that the EPC came on smelled rotten eggs or sulfur from the exhaust.
Used jump cables and car started, battery light gone but EPC light came on and stays on, no blinking. I drove back home about 13 miles and no problem. Took battery to test and did not hold charge, I will replace battery. Car was at the dealer for two weeks to get the CAM, cam follower and high p fuel pump replace. Is just a battery issue or another issue for the EPC light?
Recently purchased a 2001.5 Passat, and of course got the mod itch... started with an Neuspeed ECU flash & DV, along with K&N... and now I'm in the process of suspension & exhaust... Unfortunately the past week, I was told that I had a tail light out.... Upper Rear Passenger Side Parking/Brake Light.... So I figure, hit up the parts store, grab a new bulb, and I'll be set...
Well, come to find out that it's not the bulb....
The light works when I brake, so 1/2 of the bulb is good... but the parking lights won't come on that side, but on the driver side everything is good..... even with the new bulbs..(replaced both on that side[passenger] just to be sure.)
So, just out of curiosity, I took one of the old bulbs that I thought was shot, and put it in the drivers side, and what do you know... it worked flawlessly on that side...
So, I'm led to believe I have a short... or a wiring problem somewhere... but I can't see how this could have just happened without really messing with anything... I mean, I disabled the DRL's.... but I even undid that(small piece of tape covering the B prong)... just to make sure..
Since i have owned my car the brake and ABS lights have been on (bought it like 2 months ago) i have a solid ABS light, and as long as the ebrake is down the brake light blinks.
Through searching I found that i most likely have a bad abs module. Before I take it out and send it to get repaired, i was wondering if there is anything else that i could check.
I also used VAGCOM to try and talk to the brakes and there is no response from the controller.
I have a 99 passat, v6, 5 speed , 110k. ABS light was flashing for past 6 months and I decided to have module replaced by another used one. So put everything back together and ABS light is still on (ok, maybe bad used unit too) but I have another problem now, my rpm's are not working and oil light starts flashing too. So I unplugged ABS and my rpm's came back, oil light is not flashing any more. I am little confused now, is there a wiring problem that just happened in a bad time ot these two are related? Car does have a traction control too.

I was driving the car yesterday afternoon when about 2 minutes after leaving home the car's check engine light turns on along with the EPC light after a minute. the car started to stutter with light smoke. I drove home immediately to call the dealership. I scanned the car and it had two cylinder related fault codes. I believe 'Cylinder 2...' and 'Cylinder disabled?' Unfortunately I did not write down the codes as I was in a fury.
The dealership tells me to bring the car in as soon as possible 10 minutes later, I turn the car on and relatively heavy white smoke continues with excessive stuttering especially while in park. Additionally, the muffler sounded as if it was sputtering out the white smoke (1920s train in color and noise). I drove the car slowly to the dealership and noticed difficulty accelerating to 15 miles per hour. I did not try to go above that.
I just had the intake manifold replaced 4-5 weeks ago since I had a check engine light related to that.
looking for info to install rear fog light into my Passat B6 Sedan. I have noticed it is often here in the forum said that you need to change the left reverse light in the trunk hood to an european rear fog light; oempl.us seems to even sell them.
However, i would like to ask if I could just use the original backing light as the rear fog light? Of course the white bulb needs to be replaced with a red bulb, but are there some limitations why I should use extra money to buy a "real" rear fog light? I have understood that the reverse light wire is just moved to another connector so basicly the reverse light should work - am I wrong?
i used my brothers vag-com and it said it's a left speed senor???could that be it
View 3 RepliesMy passat is equipped with bi-xenon head lamps, and I've noticed that when the fog light is on the cornering light will not come on. I've spoke to someone in the volkswagen dealers and they said there's a way to change it but by law they are not suppose to. How to enable it via vag-com to have the cornering light on while the fog light is on too.

View 4 RepliesEvery so often, if I start my vehicle at night with the auto on function, my right fog light also comes on (but not the left). If I turn on the fog lights and turn it off, they both go off as they should. But for some strange reason the right one comes on every so often when the headlights come on.
Does this sound like a warranty issue?
I have asked my dealership why this light comes on when the gas cap hasn't been touched and they told me on new cars this can happen. I have tried to tighten the cap, I can't get it to click except when I release the cap it clicks as it spins backwards. I have tried to tighten the cap but if it should click three times to the left I'll break it before that happens.
I got it down near 1/2 tank yesterday and the light came on and in 15 miles it was back off again. Only once we turned the car off and back on, which hasn't worked until yesterday.
so my battery light came on yesterday, so i tested the battery at work, perfect, also checked the charging system, great. then on my way home from work, my cluster and radio/climate/window switches all out, but they react to the brake switch, on when pressed, off when released(sometimes) the blower motor also loses speed at idle compared to normal speed when rpms are up..
View 3 RepliesHad the typical ABS light issues, diagnosed as the module. I just removed the module to have it rebuilt and the ABS light is still going off. I thought I read somewhere that if you took the module off it would at least stop the lights and beeping .
View 4 RepliesI just got a fix-it-ticket for my light. So I replaced it but apparently that's not the problem. I'm wondering if there is a wire running across the front of the car (or anywhere else) that the light gets its power from. I only ask because I know my car has had some problems in that area, so I could narrow my search down. Everything else has been checked; fuses, bulbs, plugs, etc.

I am piecing a fog light kit together for our Passat and was wondering if the fog light wiring kit that I got for my wifes MKV Jetta kit will work? Is it plug and play just like the MKV was? I know the 2 platforms share a bunch of parts so hopefully they share this one.
My 3rd brake light is out (the one at the top of the rear window) on my Passat. Is this a wear and tare item that I would need to replace like a bulb or is this something that my warranty would could cover and the dealer will fix? My damn state inspection won't pass without it working

I have seen some posts on here, ran VAG (which showed codes for connections from ABS module as issue). Troubleshoot brake light switch (not the issue). Dealer says ABS Pump and module are more than likely at fault, and both need to be replaced as they affect each other. I have heard just the module can be replaced. Any thoughts on this? Dealer also said codes wont be thrown for just bad connections.
