I put in a K&n air filter earlier this week and tonight it threw a CEL. Can this happen?

View 6 RepliesMy girlfriend has a 2000 B5 and it's been throwing a p1136 (Fuel trim too lean: probably a vacuum leak) and p1113 (B1, S1, pre-cat O2 sensor) for about two weeks now. How long can she feasibly leave this stuff before doing any real damage?
I just don't have time to check her manifold for vacuum leaks for at least a few months (summer) or deal with the O2 sensor. I mean she doesn't need to get it inspected until Nov 2007, so, all she has to put up with is that really annoying beeping and "emissions workshop" lightshow every time she starts her car up.
I have VW Passat 1999 and i have some issue in my car AC cooling system. When I switch on my AC under the sun temperature 45-50 its start working, engaged the compressor and after few second throw the cold air but after some time the air is still there but its hot. I feel there is some issue with engaged the compressor as the radiator fan is running high speed mode.
I hear the clicking sound of AC but its disconnect after maximum 5 sec and then again clicking sound after 15 second (Delay of connecting and disconnecting of AC, its throwing HOT AIR). When I drive the car its working fine and throwing the cold air but the issue is when i stop the car on traffic red light or stop for long time when i stuck in traffic. What and where is the issue ?
My wife's 03 Passat w/ 1.8t is bucking and lurching throwing a P0301 (Cyl 1 misfire) code. We have about 58k on the engine and had the dealer do the 40k service 2 years ago.
So far I replaced cyl 1 spark plug, swapped and then replace coil pack with new. My choices for parts were limited on a Friday night and these are el cheapo Autozone parts. Still missing and throwing DTC, I don't really have access to Vag-Com anymore (just OBD reader at parts store) and I don't have a Bentley's either (I know there's some eye rolling going on now).
How to troubleshoot the cause so I can make a decision to take to mechanic or do a few more parts swaps between now and Monday. I've got tools and a multi-meter. I used to have Vag-Com but it isn't supported on my new laptop (Vista), I tried the USB extension cord on my desktop but it is hit and miss.
I've never done it, not even sure where it is located.

View 1 RepliesHas a question about the oil filter titled above and detailed as follows:
On Sep. 28,2010,I went an official repair shop to change the engine oil for my Passat B6. At the mean time, I also replace the oilfilter by a new one and on the package of the new one,it printed "Expired Date: 08 APR 2010".I wanna know does the oilfilter really have an expired date? What will it happen if I use an expired oilfilter?
Seems too coincidental to be unrelated. I installed a new K&N filter into my '04 GLX Wagon and 2 days later my MIL light came on. No blinking just always on. Is there a connection between the two? If I swap out the filters will the light go out on it's own or does it need to be reset? If it's not the filter what's the most common cause of the light coming on? Assuming is doesn't start blinking I have read it's OK to drive until fixed.
View 2 RepliesSo, I just dropped a bit more money that I wanted to for an oil change at a drive-through place. The tech offered to replace my dirt cabin air filter. I figured that I could do it myself for much less (or even just tap the dirt out of my current one). How to access the filter, and how easy or difficult the process is?
View 17 RepliesI have already seen the post which shows a diagram from the B5. Exactly where the access is. In my car I open the glove box and there is another pull down compartment that holds the manual. Does this compartment need to be removed? If it does how do you do it. I dont see anything that looks like the diagram given.
View 3 RepliesHere's my situation: I was driving back from a conference last Sunday afternoon with 4 passengers in 85 degree weather. After about 5 minutes on the road, I noticed that the A/C stopped working and the vent wouldn't increase in speed under any fan setting. 30 minutes later, I hit stop-and-go traffic (with more stop than go) and the Service Engine Soon light came on. The engine was laboring just as we got out of the gridlock. The last 7 miles were smooth and at 45mph. After the car cooled, I checked the oil and engine coolant--both were fine. The fan worked again as well, now responding to each fan setting. And the Service light went off. And this is where my knowledge of cars abruptly stops--if it's not the oil or coolant, what is it? More importantly, is it safe to drive 150 miles on Friday to get to my home dealership?
View 1 RepliesI changed my air filter this morning, and it's a really difficult. Looking for any tips on how to get the two clips back on that are obviously harder to get back on? In the back and front under the heat shield... I just left them hanging there after cutting up my hands trying to reach in there and push each one back in...
View 6 RepliesThe fan inside my air filter box, or turbo charger intercooler (not sure of correct technical term) is running on and off for several hours after engine has been shut off. I believe this is running my battery down. Is this intercooler/fan suppose to run after the engine is shut off?
View 4 RepliesI did it about two years ago following steps on here but i forgot where to hold the engine cover to take it off, it can be broken if done incorrectly so where to grab that cover to pull it off?
View 2 RepliesI have a 1998 Passat turbo that suddenly started leaking oil from the oil filter adapter. I think it is a bad gasket. Could this mean my pressure switch is bad? What caused this problem?
View 1 RepliesI'll be back to post the whole situation if the dealer doesn't make right on what I'm going through right now, but wanted to ask as I didn't find much searching, any issue with a cracked oil filter housing? I took car in for 30k service and came back leaking oil. Apparently part is back ordered and may take weeks. I spoke with ECS tuning and they said they don't have their aluminum filter housing yet for this model.
View 12 RepliesI'm at 101k miles, and haven't changed the exterior air intake filter on my 07' B6. I'm experiencing a slight loss of power, and the engine is relatively loud/"gruffy". Had coil packs and spark plugs replaced, oil is changed, as well as PCV work performed. So I'm thinking that the filter could be the problem. Maybe carbon build up too?
View 4 Replies2012 Passat SE ... Where the fuel filter location is? I've changed the fuel filter on many other vehicles and know that it should bee right in front of the rear passenger tire..however I was looking for it to change it the other day and I could not find it. I loosened the plastic covering on the passenger side in the rear and didn't see the filter. Looking for a picture of Gas engine Passat that is 2012 or newer??
View 9 RepliesSo there I was doing a simple oil change and when I took the filter out I noticed the little spring on top, in the center of the big spring (oil filter adapter) cocked to the side with the little plastic piece broken.
does anybody know if I can replace just the oil filter adapter (spring thingy that goes in the middle of the filter when installed) or do I have to replace the whole filter bowl assembly? And if so where would be a good place to get this part?
Changing tranny fluid/filter today, all has been going great until I went to take the filter o-ring out that didn't come with the filter. It will not come out! made a hook tool out of an old tooth brush like someone on here did, o-ring wont budge. Tried a hook pick, it wont dudge (actually bent the tip on the pick and started to tear the o-ring). Everything is ready to go back together and get filled, but this stupid o-ring will not come out!
View 3 RepliesWell yesterday i installed the Neuspeed Intake and had no trouble what so ever until 30 min ago when i pull out of the parking lot abit harsh but nothing extreme no wheel spining or anything like that just a bit quicker exit.
That's when my check engine lit up and i pulled over and checked what was going on and heard a air leak, which is located to the left of the intake filter.
