I have a 2003 Passat GLX 4Motion that was fine Monday...Having heavy rain Monday and with brake pedal depressed unable to get out of park..I have brake lights but when I got into car and started it I have airbag light and esp light on as well as check engine light...Is there a way to by pass the shift lock solenoid so I can move car into my garage...
I cleaned connections as was suggested and had a tough time as Bentley Manual states to remove console one must put lever into 3 which as lever is stuck in PARK was impossible...I tried pulling out the shift knob button as described and when I still couldn't get any response found that when I pushed the button back in that I was finally able to get shift lever to respond and finally come out of park...
I now get code for no TCM Signal P1626 No Powertrain Data Bus Signal Missing Message from TCM which now triggers ABS , Airbag ,ESP , and Check Engine light all with the cause no TCM Signal .... Now wondering if any easy way to test for data bus signal ?

How to replace the oil cooler on a W8 6 spd wagon. Dealer says $1K plus labor. Is it possible to do it with average wrench turning skills? Also, does Bentley cover the W8 in the normal Passat edition?

I purchased a 2002 VW Passat Wagon two months ago. Upon Purchasing the Car the dealer notified me I would need to purchase a "Torque Converter." I failed to do so. Before I changed the oil, the car was running great! And, after the oil change. The car began to act up and the transmission would kick back!
After, I took it to a local dealer. They told me "Transmission Replacement is required," and Internal Slippage and Fluid Burnt.
I just don't understand, how the transmission began to act up after I changed the oil.
I can reverse the car great, and shift to drive.

One of my stop lights is out. Do you have to remove the entire light assembly from inside the cargo area of a wagon to replace the stop light? I tried searching for stop light replacement info without success. Any links or pictures available showing how it comes out?

I'd like to know how to replace the battery in the key fob for my 2002 Passat Wagon. I looked in the manual but I could not find it and it says that the dealer should do it. I am aware that sometimes the fob may need to be re-programmed but my wife's key works perfectly so I will assume that the battery has gone out. The key works just fine when used manually. Also, what kind of battery does it take??

I just returned from the stealership for the 30K service on my 2006 Passat. The dealer says the back brakes will need replacement soon and there is a special tool for opening the caliper due to the electric parking brake. What tool do I need to do this myself? I have done brakes many times and normally it is a 30-45 minutes job for both axles. Also, with that few miles, will I need new rotors?

So I need to put some new brakes on the rear of the B6 but as I remember hearing there is a hydraulic that holds the brakes in place. Apparently they have to be disabled via VAGCOM. Is there any way around this?

My 2004 Passat 1.8T GLS (station wagon) has 72,000 miles. I checked the manual which says that timing belt is to be replaced at 105,000 miles.
However, car is 8 years old - does the age matter or I should be fine until I get to 105,000 miles to replace the timing belt, tensioner, water pump etc.

I have been working on a 2001 VW Passat 2.8 for a while now. I replaced the engine for a customer. Now its misfiring bad.
I did a compression check, everything there is good
Leak down test - everything good
Replaced plugs
Replaced coil pack with known good one
Replaced spark plug wires with good ones
Its missing on 1, 5, 6, some times 4, sometimes 3
I have check all my vacuum lines, no leaks. Sprayed throttle body cleaner every place I can think of, and no change in idle.
I did replace the timing belt, but that is all good. Start's right up. Just shakes bad.
I did check for spark at the plug wires and its getting really good spark.

I got 123000 km on my car. Manual says 144000 km is the right mileage to replace the belt, but I have heard opinions that it should be done earlier.

I had to replace the battery on my 2003 Passat (without temporary power thru the lighter) and shortly afterward the check engine light came on. I got a scan tool that indicated three fault codes shown below. Are these likely the result of the battery change and I can reset the faults or should I take the car into a shop to have them checked out.

My front dipped headlamps both burnt out within days of each other and I replaced them with H7 Sylvanias. Pretty easy to get out, but they are too dim. I believe I do not have them installed properly.
Looking for PDF for this replacement procedure and/or give a description of how this is done???? It is kind of a bugger to get inside that housing. I am a mechanical novice with cars, but a competent M1/M14 gunsmith. I really can't justify paying VW $50 to install a few bulbs. I like fixing things for myself.

My 2013 Passat 2.5L auto transmission needs to have the right (passenger) CV Axle Shaft replaced. It has 76k miles and has developed a clicking noise when making sharpish left hand turns. I listen to the stereo a little louder these days, but in the back of my mind, I know it's got to be fixed.
I did a search on this forum, but didn't see any direct detailed info on DYI replacement. It seems pretty simple, but the previous Passat models used bolts for the axle-transmission connection. The B7 uses a splined shaft into the tranny with no bolts. Any tricks for removing it from the tranny or fitting back into the tranny?
