I lost boost, went from being chipped at 16psi to 7-8 with a check engine code and a high pitch noise. Now is the secondary air pump connected to the turbo in any way. It just happened and I'm working on getting the code read. Just curious if my pump is just bad, what im figuring.
View 1 RepliesSo i have a '06 2.0t 6spdman passat. I started getting this high pitch sound (like a boost leak) when under hard acceleration from second gear and up. I went to the dealer today and they replaced my PCV system, and told me that was the noise i was hearing. Pulled out of the dealer like half a block and same thing happened. Then the tech went with me heard the noise, went back put it on a lift. And proceeded to just rev the engine. They say its my Intake system, yet I have had it on the car for 2 and a half years. Could it possibly be the DV???

-No change in performance, functionality, or spooling.
-Loud intermittent screeching noise when building boost above 3500 RPM
-Can only describe the sound as air escaping from a tiny hole, VERY similar to warn brakes, that kind of screech. The intermittent part I would describe as if you were tapping your brakes (and they were screeching) rapidly, so on off on off very quickly.
-Also happens when I let my foot off the gas (Also above 3500 RPM)
-Car has CTS Turbo Intake, 42DD Downpipe, and APR stage 2 software.
My wife was driving our 08 B6 yesterday and suddenly had a loss of power. Check engine light was on. Took it to the dealer and we heard back today that the high pressure fuel pump had gone out. I had heard of the TDI's having this problem and I know BMW had to do a recall on the same issue. I didn't know that the 2.0 TSI had this problem.
I'm a little bit concerned 'cause we leased the car for 3 years and didn't have a single problem. I thought it was very solid so we decided to buy the car last month Now my confidence in the car is a little bit rattled.
The car is under warranty. I just hope that this is not the kind of thing that's going to go out every 20K miles! Out of warranty, this repair would have been costly.
New 2012 SE, I noticed a high pitch noise coming from the rear side of my car. The high pitched noise/whine happens as soon as the car is running, and continues until it is turned off. I can hear it every time when standing idle or at lower speed. So I brought it into the VW dealership, and my technician: "found noise described is the high pressure pump in the tank".
We tested another 2012 Passat SE and we found the exactly same(even louder) high pitched noise coming out from the high pressure pump. I was told by a service manager that it is a standard high pressure pump noise for 2012 Passat. Well I don't think that any high pitch ultra whine/noise should be a standard feature in any car...It is very,very annoying noise...
Every morning for the last 3 days I've gone to go warm up my car and each time i turn on the car only from a cold start up i hear this loud high pitch noise from the motor. If i turn the car off and restart it. It goes away and the car is at perfect idle. what is this and do i have some serious problems?
Is this true? If it's only on a cold start up, and then it goes away during normal driving, you have no need to fear....that's the Secondary Air Injection Pump that turns on during cold starts, and the plastic hose just needs to be replaced.. If so where is it located so i can replace this hose.
I have a 2002 Corolla with about 180,000 miles that has been well maintained, but I know very little about cars.
Over the past months, I've noticed the engine noise on acceleration sounds a bit louder than I would expect it to, and it seems to be getting louder over time. It's slow changing, so I'm a little unsure. And occasionally I wonder if I don't hear a sound that shouldn't be there, though I couldn't describe it yet. Mechanic said the acceleration noise is normal at start-up for older cars until they get warm, but this happens even after I've been driving a while. Worth the $100 for an engine checkup?
Also, the A/C doesn't seem to be the strongest and has a high pitch noise when I run it. Normal?
I have an 03 2.0 jetta manual shifter. Never had issues before this morning. Got in car and sounded like it wanted to turn but wouldnt turn over. After a few attempts the turning sound stopped and I heard an electric pop. Now engine won't even try turning when I turn key it just clicks and engine makes a high pitch noise. Took starter and battery out got both tested and they are fine...
View 3 RepliesI have a 2007 Sonata, 2.4L 4cyl. and it is making some weird noise as of late. I have done some research and from what I have read it seems like it may be a bad engine mount. One thing to note is that the noise really only happens when the car is cold and hasn't warmed up yet or on a cold day.
Basically the best description is that the noise is a high-pitched rattle/vibration noise. The noise seems to match the vibrations of the engine but doesn't seem to get more intense if I rev the engine. The noise does get quieter if I put it in neutral but it is still there. The noise also happens even if the car is parked and off, and I do something like shut the door or trunk. I haven't gotten a chance to get in there and look under the hood myself to try...
I currently have the P0299 code for underboosting. I am pretty certain that i need to replace my wastegate actuator because i can hear it rattling on deceleration.
My plans are to replace it at the same time I replace the timing belt since it would be a decent opportunity to remove the turbo to change the WG actuator. However, I still can't figure something out. When I am starting to accelerate from a stop in 1st gear (and only 1st gear), there is a loud screech, lasting only a second, coupled at the same time by a quick and noticeable loss of power; as if boost was released. I typically shift out of 1st within 2500-3700ish rpm, if that makes any difference.
From what I have researched, this sounds like the turbine making contact with the housing. I may be wrong, but that does not add up to me because I am only experiencing this problem in 1st gear. We are talking about a 2003 B5.5, Engine Code AWM. No mods, 100% stock.
I've noticed a noise coming from my car (2014 IS350 RWD) that sounds like a light, irregular rattle, when the engine is running in the 3500 - 4500 RPM range. I don't hear it necessarily under load, but if I am in manual mode in a lower gear, and let off the throttle, I can hear it.
The best way I can describe the noise is like a bowl of rice crispies (rapid and random), only slightly louder. You have to listen for it, the road/traffic should be quiet, and if you get back on the gas, the intake noise that's plumbed into the cabin pretty much covers it up. I can also hear it in Park or Neutral.... I've wondered if it's a loose heat shield, or an exhaust issue, but I can't hear it standing next to the car or with my head under the hood. I only hear it from the cabin. The rhythm of the noise is irregular.
I don't think it's ping/detonation, since that usually shows up under load, is much louder and has a decidedly metallic sound to it compared to what I'm hearing.
My 07 SCREW 5.4L 4x4 has 77,000 miles and has a high pitch whining noise on front right side of engine. Sounds worse in the cold,increases with RPMs.
View 5 RepliesOk, I just bought this car a month ago, and I get this code coming up intermittently. I reset the code, and it will come back after driving a while. 2002 passat 1.8t 5 speed. It seems like it comes back when I roll backwards a little bit (like from a standing start on an incline) right before taking off. Could this be a leaky throttle body to inter cooler hose? Seems like the engine might move more while taking off from a backwards rolling start due to the torque. Also, I hear a lot of noise while on boost coming from the drivers front corner of the car, although it doesn't throw a code while on boost.
View 5 RepliesI replaced the timing belt an waterpump at 262,000 miles and ever since the engine makes a loud low pitch noise that varies in pitch depending on the engine speed. I replaced the alternator and it didn't work. I don't know if the power steering pump, a/c compressor or something else is making this awful sound.

Car: 2006 Passat 2.0t 6mt - 81k miles. Has lived a grocery-getter life with an occasional romp on the back roads on the off chance the wife and kids aren't with me.
Symptom: Total loss of power (boost?) at at around 3-5k rpm and almost no power to accelerate (10-15sec to get one more mph). Service Engine light has come on twice, but clears with time or removal of negavive battery terminal. At low RPM range power is good, but suspect minor power loss. I'm only partly suspect on that last statement since I only drive it once a week. Idle seems normal, engine sounds normal at idle. Last week I did notice a barely audible whistle when boost is engaged. I have no access to a Vag-Com accept at the dealer.
The car let me down last weekend when I was smoking a jerk in a BMW that wouldn't let me get on the interstate. If it is the PCV and DV, where I can get one? Also, I'm not a tuner. I want OEM performance.
I just installed a boost gauge and drove the car a little and this is the readings I get. It starts off with 20 inHg and to normal street driving it goes up to 0 and down. However when I pushed it a little, the maximum reading I got was 11-13PSI (High RMP-almost redline). I am a noob in this boost department so Is this readings really accurate or is there something wrong? Recently i had some transmission work done. And since then the gas pedal feels heavier. I was convinced that it is from the new bushings but I feel like this is boost related. Because at 4000 RPM sometimes It suddenly looses the boost (Kick).
View 5 RepliesI have a 1995 Lexus ES300 with 130,000 miles on it. When I reverse, I get a low-pitch growling and as as soon as I apply the brakes by a high-pitch, ungodly screech. This noise is definitely coming from the rear wheel areas. I'm not sure which tire is the culprit (I hear both sides from while listening from both the inside and outside). It happens frequently but is particularly bad on rainy, snowy, misty, or high humidity days. Two years ago I replaced the pads and rotors. At this point, the pads look to have about 40% life on them yet. This problem started happening about a year ago.
My initial thoughts were that it was just rusting because of the frequency on high moisture days. But both noises are way too loud for that. My second speculation was that the emergency brake was catching, but after examining it I think not. I've taken the entire assembly (brakes, rotors calipers, and emergency brake) at each tire apart and looked for any obvious issues that look incorrect. No luck. I've also applied brake quiet with similar results. Now my thoughts are that the low pitch is the rotors being warped. But that doesn't explain the screech and why it only occurs in reverse.
I'm on my 4th passat. Have an 08 Komfort. This by far is my most favorite of the 4 passats I've owned. This is the first VW I have had with satellite radio. I noticed not long after I got it that I could hear a high pitched beep that lasted maybe 3 or 4 seconds while I was listening to the satellite radio. It seemed to just happen at random times. I took it on a 500 mile trip a few weeks ago and I just figured out exactly when this happens............it happens when I hit the brakes while I am listening to sirius only. It doesn't happen while listening to FM or AM (I didn't try a CD). It doesn't do it every time, but at least 50% of the time. It almost always seems to happen if I have the cruise control on and I hit the brakes to disable it. I'm going to mention it to the dealer when I take it in for service.
View 1 Replies2002 Passat wagon. I recently had my independent VW shop install new front and rear brake pads and rotors that I provided. The pads are PBR Axis Deluxe ceramic pads. Soon after, the front brakes started a high pitch squeal - mostly when cold or wet.
I took it back to the mechanic and he told me there is nothing he can do about it - I must have defective pads and that maybe they are covered under warranty, as they certainly need to be replaced, ...
This shocked me, especially the lack of customer service, but because I provided the pads I don't think I have much leverage with them other than not to do business with them again.
Is there any way to quiet a squeaking brake pad? Might the mechanic not done something he should have done to prevent squeaks?
