Well I just put a junkyard motor in my cousins 06 passat. Fired it up today runs great and runs smooth. The only thing that concerns me is the top end makes some noise. Is this normal for this direct injected engine? Sound like its coming from the injector area and the injection pump......
View 2 RepliesI have a 1999 passat 1.8t with 197k miles. When I drive if you listen really closely the engine makes a pretty cool sound like a turbo winding. It's a really really low whooooooo on the first and second gear. You cant hear it unless you have the windows down and there's like no other cars. Is this normal? My friend said the turbo might be going bad ?

View 2 RepliesAll was fine with it until a month or so ago. Now, after the car is first turned on and the AC is turned on, it makes a terrible squealing sound. The moment the AC is turned off it stops. If the AC is left on, it will generally make the noise for a good 20 seconds, stop, and then repeat that a couple more times(and the noise will cease for as long as the car is on).
I popped the hood and took a look (I'm assuming the compressor is on the lower left), and when the AC is off it spins fine. However, when the AC is turned on, the fan starts up, then it visibly stops spinning and really struggles to spin, causing the noise. Do I need a new compressor?
i recently bought a 2008 vw passat vr6 4motion and i dont know if its just with me but the engine makes a annoying wining noise when i start moving(hitting the gas) no more than 2000 rpm. and i have got some bad mileage. i drove only 31 miles with a quarter of a tank. and that was grandma driving. i do not step on the gas more than 2000-2200 rpm.
View 7 RepliesI got this car off of a friend of mine who drove it drunk until the noise from the back wheel was too loud to handle. about 30 miles. he changed the "wheel" put on the spare and drove it for about another month.
during that time, the shifting began to get a little "iffy". he then brought it in to get the brakes done, and as soon as it came off of the lift . it wouldn't go into gear. instead it just makes a horrible noise from the area of the "output shaft" or where i would assume the prop shaft " flange" would be.
that being said. Every once in a while you can get it to go into gear. just by continually putting it from park to drive. and when it goes into gear the noise stops and it drives "fine" but only for about 30 seconds. and then it pops back "out of gear" and makes the noise again.
My 2003 Passat 4cyl turbo makes an extremely loud noise whenever I am in reverse...its seems to happen only when I tap the brakes. Several of my neighbors have heard the sound and expressed concern. I have had it at the dealer and they found no problem. I bought this car new in 2003 . The sounds seems to come and go. Maddening....It just happeneded again today. The car is garage kept, has only 31,000 miles on it, and has always been dealer maintained. The car is in pristine shape in and out.

Changed the fluid/filter and added lucas treatment. It worked a little but my mech said to warm up the car before driving. Might be the torque converter?
View 3 RepliesHere's my problem, I have a B5.5 1.8 5speed and my power steering makes a whining noise when Im turning. I checked the fluid and it's full. A few years ago on a roadtrip from CA to NM, my PS cooler hard pipe had a leak and drained all the fluid. It's was 11pm and still had 30 miles to get home and all I could get was Pennzoil PS fluid from Walgreens. So for the past 3 years I've been using Pennzoil PS fluid. Just recently it started making this noise. Luckily I picked up a 98 AEB parts car for $300 and my question is,
Would a power steering pump from my B5 fit my B5.5??? And, If the problem isn't my pump, would the PS rack fit also??
Going to take a look at a 2000 v6 passat with 130k on it. They had the car serviced at Jiffy lube and now the engine makes a loud noise after running for a minute or so. The wrong oil was used. So I'm thinking the oil pump and screen are clogged up or the oil becomes to thin when warm therefore not providing proper lubrication.

I have also been experiencing a weird siren like noise when I drive and the car feels like it's struggling whenever I go over 40 mph and or driving up a steep hill.
View 8 RepliesI have had this problem since day one. The idle seems to be very rough once you give it some gas and drive the car it runs smooth as silk. The dealer told me that is the wayit should be due to the narrow V6 with one head cylinder. I have had an 02 Passat V6 and I dont remember it having a rough idle.
My other issue is again since day one when I am moving very slow like when I am backing out of my drive way there is what I would describe as a grinding sound. It does it all the time forwards and back, all day not just the first thing in the morning. Again the dealer says it is normal.
I just had my first oil change about 2 weeks ago and was hoping these were just thing that would be addressed then but they dont seem to be better or worse always the same.
So I have a 2003 Passat wagon. While driving down the road with no brake pressure applied the front right brake makes a squealing noise. As if the caliper doesn't release pressure....what should I do? Any hints?
View 6 RepliesIt has been raining, finally, in bay area, thats the good part. The scary part is that, today I was driving normal close to 15mph and took a left turn at a traffic light and the car spun out. This was the second time in couple of months. Both times it had rained for long periods, road was not water logged.
First time had spun out of control on right turn and second time on left turn. Tires are close to 30K old. Wheels aligned 6k back, rotated 1k back. And passenger side CV makes clicking noise occasionally. Do not remember, the CV making the noise around the time of spin out on both occasions.

I have a 2001 passat that i have had for about 2 months. recently, about 2 weeks ago, i started having problems with the remote unlock feature. it will unlock the driver side door fine, but when i press the unlock button twice, the driver side lock makes a noise but the other three doors remain locked. when i press the unlock toggle on the driver side controls with the window controls, all the doors unlock fine. i have two remotes, one is pretty new and i just got it programmed (within a month) and neither one will unlock all the doors.all the other functions of the remote work fine.

I drive a 18 wheeler for work, and sometimes when i'm goin down a hill and i accelerate, i get no power, just hearing the turbo loud and clear with no power.
But i barely hear it on the passat, i don't know if its good or bad.
I took the wagon to the dealer for servicing due to an oil leak. However, before taking it in, I put the car up on ramps and took a peek to see what was the culprit. I noticed that oil was dripping from the turbo area. Nine days ago they performed the following repair:
--> Cause:Gasket for the turbocharger pipe leaking.
--> Fix: Installed a new gasket, added engine dye to check for any other leaks and no more leaks were found after repair.
However, today I noticed oil in my garage floor again from the same spot.
So about 30 minutes ago my exhaust broke between the turbo and cat. I guess I could weld it back but the pipe is a little rusty. Should I just get a turbo back and call it good and if so what brand and where do I get one for a 01 passat 1.8t
