Passat (B5) :: 2004 - Choppy Acceleration And Flashing CEL

Feb 18, 2013

2004 passat 1.8T with 190K miles. Very well taken care of drove great a few days ago and i did notice a few hiccups during acceleration from stop or just accelerating from say 30mph. Nothing major figured something in the spark system

Today I was driving and it got alot worse. If I use 3/4 throttle or more the acceleration is so choppy that the car wont go anywhere until I ease out of it. now the Check engine light started flashing when this happens. Only thing different about today is that its colder

From the search and my moderate knowledge of cars the possible culprits are (in no order):

fuel filter
spark system (coils, wires, plugs)
plugged cat converter
Ignition module?? (not coils)
MAF sensor
Vac line/s
Pcv valve

190K miles. She idles great no a single hiccup. I am thinking pcv valve and fuel filter?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Mk4 Running Choppy And CEL Is Flashing In Cold And Foggy Weather

Just bought my 2004 Jetta GLS from a dealership last week. 2.0 Engine. Has 140K miles on it. 2 hour drive from the dealership to home was cold and foggy but it ran fine. In town stop and go traffic in foggy conditions since last Thursday and it has run fine. Got a downpour this morning and all of a sudden it is running choppy and the CEL is flashing at me.

I have a 96 MK3 as well that would run badly in the rain until I changed out the Electronic Coil. Got so I would carry spares with me.

Is it the same fix for the MK4 2.0? I've also read about using epoxy or JB Weld to coat the coils and keep the water out. Does that work for the MK4 Ignition coil?

Lexus RX 2004-09 :: RX330 Choppy / Harsh Ride - Small Dip / Hump / Bump When Driving

It has 85K miles and rides very choppy/harsh. I feel even a very small dip/hump/bump when driving and it's coming from rear of the car.

What needs to be replaced and/or checked other than the rear shocks? Everything is stock and correct tire pressure.

Passat (B5) :: 2004 - Vibration On Acceleration

I have an '04 passat 2.8l with manual tranny. I have noticed on acceleration when it get to approx.2,200-2,300RPM. I can feel a vibration then it goes away around 2,500-2,600RPM. It does this in any gear and at any rate of acceleration. I have noticed that when I have the clutch engaged and rev the engine it is as smooth as can be at that RPM range. I'm thinking it has to be in the drivetrain and not the engine. Also, I have to replace the CV Axles, as they are popping. Could they possibly cause this odd vibration? My car has 96,000mi on it and is very clean and well taken care of.

Golf/GTI VII :: Car Gets Choppy / Jumpy As It Comes To A Stop

I'm planning to mention this to the dealer when I get my first oil change, but I've been wondering if this is normal for the 2.0T. When stopping at a red light for example and the car downshifts through 2nd and to 1st, it gets very choppy - almost jumpy as it comes to a stop. Seems like I really have to concentrate to make a perfectly smooth stop.

Ford - Aerostar :: Check Engine Light Flashing / Acceleration Creates Shaking

My mechanic said one cylinder isnt working though we havent done any checking beyond wires. It's not worth putting money into but I cannot afford to get anything else. Will driving on just the 5 cylinders create increased damage or other issues that will get me stranded? it starts right up, is rough but levels out after a couple minutes It is smooth driving under 40mph, but acceleration above that creates shaking and check engine light flashing, no ominous ticking noises but can tell not firing on all cylinders. Problem is I will have to drive it highway speeds at some point-tried it before and made it-was able to eventually baby it up to the required traffic mph with the shaking diminishing and smoothing out but rattling started up again every time I had to hit the accelerator to increase the speed. What can I expect by continuing to drive it?

Golf IV R32 :: Strange Choppy Noise From Motor

Golf IV R32 :: Choppy Whining Noise While Decelerating In 1st Gear To A Stop?

Quick description: every part of any acceleration in any gear is completely normal. My only problem is when I decelerate downhill in 1st gear to a stop I get a whining sound up front that is choppy and sounds like it is coming from the center of the car, like transmission, ???

I am at 85k and replaced my transmission oil and rear diff. w. Amsoil 75w90 at 60k miles.

Some of the old posts question why I would be engine braking in 1st gear. It is because I have to "coast" out of a 6 floor parking garage. I never noticed the trouble at all because I am usually coasting in 2nd gear or neutral, but someone in front of me was extremely slow so I stopped and went to 1st gear then heard the noise. Like I mentioned, it only happens downhill (not under load).

Sound = "rum rum rum rum..." decreasing with speed as the car comes to a stop.

It's not a CV or wheel bearing because it only does it in 1st..

Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Engine Choppy - CEL On - Maintenance?

My truck is for the most part fine, but it's doing some strange things and I'm wanting to get some opinions before I go and tow a trailer 300 miles next weekend.

Last weekend when I started my truck I had the CEL on for about a minute, then it went away. Not sure if it was an influencing factor, but it was sitting outside in the sun in 100 degree weather before I started it. Truck ran fine for the 300 mile trip home that day. Two days ago, I drove to my parents house. It ran fine the whole way there and as I pulled up into the driveway, the engine randomly got really choppy like it went down a couple cylinders or something. Not sure how to explain it. I pulled forward the last 50 feet or so I needed to drive with the engine chopping up, parked, unloaded the stuff I brought, and fired the truck back up to go home. It was running perfectly fine again and drove back home without an issue like nothing ever happened.

Is there any components I should be checking out on the truck before I make my next trip 4th of July weekend or just brush it off as being a fluke? Truck has 230k miles on it.

Touareg :: Exhaust Malfunction Light - Choppy Ride / Engine Hesitant And Misfiring

When starting my T-Reg leaving work yesterday, the yellow exhaust malfunction light (located in the rpm guauge -- it looks like an engine but the manual refers to it as an exhaust malfunction) came on and would blink now and then and remain on.

I proceeded to drive home and the entire ride was choppy and the engine was hesitant and misfiring. When I arrived home, I turned the Reg of and then back on again and the light never came on. I drove it around the block and it was fine.

We have been experiencing tremendous cold weather in the Northeast (-20 to -30 with the wind chill). Reg started fine this morning, no light. Was this a function of the computer resetting itself?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2000 F350 V10 - Choppy Low RPM Drive

I'm getting a really choppy low RPM drive. If I'm above 2-2.5k rpm it runs okay but as soon as it drops under 2.5k it starts to run very choppy and loses power and Boggs in and out of power regardless of how much throttle input I give it. I had a tune up done last year and a recent oil change...

Lexus GX 2010+ :: Rear Suspension Rattle When Drive Over Quick Choppy Bumps In Pavement

When I drive over quick choppy bumps in pavement I get a rattle in the rear of the suspension, but only when the bump is on one side. When the bump is long and activates both rear wheels, like a speed bump or a large road crack I don't get the rattle.

The sound seems to be worse on the right side and I can't really figure it out. Anything specific I should look out for?

Camry 2012+ :: Wheel Fitment / Rear Tires Are Choppy Causing Noisy Driving

I might be buying a 14 Camry tomorrow. I test drove it the other day and had it looked at by belle tire. They said the rear tires are choppy causing noisy driving. On the highway it sounds really noisy in the front of the vehicle. Everything else checked ok on the inspection but I was trying to find some wheels that will fit the Camry. 5x114 which my parents have a 95 lexus es300 that has 5x114 wheels. Although the tires are 205 65 15. Do I could put those on and will they clear everything to be able to fit?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Misfire On Cylinder 2 / Choppy Sound In The Exhaust

I have a 99 ford super duty with a 5.4 triton that is having a troublesome misfire. When you first fire it up it has a bit of a stutter then runs relatively smooth but the engine does still have a small shake to it and you can hear a bit of a choppy sound in the exhaust. Not completely smooth. When you drive it light footed it seems to run perfectly smooth and nice. But if you go past half throttle (sometimes you can go past that point) it starts to cough and is very slow at picking up.

When you reach between 3,250 and 4,500rpm the coughing stops. But the pick up is a little surgy, not steady. It was doing this for a while before the engine light came on. I got it scanned and it showed a miss fire on cylinder two so I have replaced the spark plug, coil, and injector but still the same issue. I opened up the catalytic converter to see if it was plugged up. Nothing there.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2000 F250 - Choppy Idle During First 30 Or So Seconds After A Cold Start Up

My 2000 F-250 6.8L V10 has a choppy idle during the first 30 or so seconds after a cold start up in the morning then it smooths out and drives perfectly. If I were to place the truck in gear during the choppy idle, it would not die and throttle response would be fine.

I cleaned the MAF sensor and checked the PCV elbow for cracks (no cracks). It idles at about a 1000 rpm during a cold startup then drops to about 750 rpm according to the dash tachometer. The truck has 187,000 miles on it.

Passat (B7) :: Strong Vibration Leads To Flashing CEL

I leased my 2012 Passat SE 2.5 Manual in March and I have been happy with it overall; however, the car has some strange behavior. Sometimes, under hard acceleration while the clutch is partially engaged a strong vibration comes from the engine bay accompanied by a flashing check engine light that turns solid after about 10 seconds. The vibration feels similar to but not exactly like ABS brakes. I took it to the dealer, took a technician on a test drive, reproduced the event for him, and left it in their hands for a day or two. The check engine light code was for an engine misfire. They told me to contact them if it happened again. It has happened a few times ( I need to take it back). I would like to know if I have a defect or if there is a design flaw in one of the systems.
