I was rear ended in my passat this morning at 30+ MPH. I was able to drive the car to the shoulder. But after that the car would not start and had to be towed. The red battery light was lit up on the dash, it sounded like the battery was supplying the power but the car would not crank up.
Is there anything in the bumper or back of the car that could potentially stop the car from cranking up?
I own a 2003 MDX w/205k miles. The tranny was rebuilt at 150k. The weirdest thing started happening this week. sometimes when i am coming to a stop, the car feels like I am being rear ended and it stalls out. No check engine lights come on. it will start right back up (may take a couple of attempts to get to drive again). A mechanic who specializes in Honad/Acura thinks its the tranny. A tranny guy did a diagnostic and didn't get any codes. (the mechanic could duplicate the problem, the tranny guy couldn't). I would really like to keep the car going, but at this point sinking another 3k for a tranny is not an option.
View 1 Replies2010 corolla drove fine for a few hours after being rear ended, then has no throttle response. Will only go 20 MPH on flat ground. But, turn the car off for a few seconds and restart....and it has full throttle response which may continue for a few seconds after putting car in gear. Then it is back to no throttle response. Car is setting p0600 code. Traction control is off. VSC light is on. Looking for something knocked loose.

While driving down the highway yesterday at about 65mph I went to change lanes. As I was changing lanes I gave it a little gas. About half way through the lane change truck jerked like I had just been rear ended. I immediately checked my mirrors to see if I changed lanes in front of some body. No one was around. Truck still ran the same. Everything I'be read seems like similar thing happen to others at slower speed.
I've got a 2003 passat 1.8t, I just changed my rear brakes about 5000km's ago, and my front pads have a lot of pad left.. the light just came on...? Is it safe to drive still? Is there something I should look for?

View 3 RepliesRecently purchased a 2001.5 Passat, and of course got the mod itch... started with an Neuspeed ECU flash & DV, along with K&N... and now I'm in the process of suspension & exhaust... Unfortunately the past week, I was told that I had a tail light out.... Upper Rear Passenger Side Parking/Brake Light.... So I figure, hit up the parts store, grab a new bulb, and I'll be set...
Well, come to find out that it's not the bulb....
The light works when I brake, so 1/2 of the bulb is good... but the parking lights won't come on that side, but on the driver side everything is good..... even with the new bulbs..(replaced both on that side[passenger] just to be sure.)
So, just out of curiosity, I took one of the old bulbs that I thought was shot, and put it in the drivers side, and what do you know... it worked flawlessly on that side...
So, I'm led to believe I have a short... or a wiring problem somewhere... but I can't see how this could have just happened without really messing with anything... I mean, I disabled the DRL's.... but I even undid that(small piece of tape covering the B prong)... just to make sure..
looking for info to install rear fog light into my Passat B6 Sedan. I have noticed it is often here in the forum said that you need to change the left reverse light in the trunk hood to an european rear fog light; oempl.us seems to even sell them.
However, i would like to ask if I could just use the original backing light as the rear fog light? Of course the white bulb needs to be replaced with a red bulb, but are there some limitations why I should use extra money to buy a "real" rear fog light? I have understood that the reverse light wire is just moved to another connector so basicly the reverse light should work - am I wrong?
Just bought a 2003 Passat wagon. The rear windshield washer wasn't working: when I used it, the fluid would stream straight back toward the car behind me. Fun for me, but other drivers were not so impressed.
I realized I was missing the plastic cap piece, so I ordered one and installed it. But now the stream just sort of shoots into the cap, and doesn't get on the window at all. I'm not sure if I'm missing another piece or what? The "nozzle" that's on there points straight back, but I don't see how this cap is supposed to "redirect" the flow.
What's with the rear brake pads wearing out before the front brake pads. Took my '03 Passat in last week to the dealer for the recall and the service dept. guy said my brake pads were worn out. I took the car to my local mechanic who specializes in VW's. Sure enough, rears were almost gone but fronts still had plenty of meat left on them. Of course I had him replace the rears. But I always thought the fronts wore out first. Could this anomaly be due to ABS?

I told the girl about it and she said they can't get it to turn off. I drive a Jetta and a 91 at that... but I was wondering, is this a common problem with Passats? View 4 RepliesI am looking at purchasing a 2003 passat glx 4motion (V6) with 170,000 miles on it for a winter car. The car I'm looking at has been diagnosed with a "rear viscous coupling loose" and a repair estimate of $1700 to fix. The car will be priced accordingly but I'm curious if this is something that I can repair myself and save a few beans.
I am pretty handy with repairs so that's not too big of a problem. I've been searching the forums and can't seem to find anything on this problem. Is this in the rear differential or is it a part of the Torsen center diff?
The car also has a clogged heater core, I've located plenty of info on this site on how to repair this so that won't be to hard.
I have a 2003 B5.5 1.8T. Recently i started hearing a weird noice in the back of my car like something is loose or rolling around. Had the brakes checked and everything is fine. You only hear it when you stop real sudden or take off real sudden. You can hear it on the inside too but its much louder with the window down.

Here is the deal - Rear left (driver side) door will not lock automatically with the key or the controls up front. I have to press it down to lock it but will unlock if I use either of the controls mentioned above. My thought is that the actuator is busted.
2003 Passat Wagon....
So today, at a red light, i let off the brakes- I feel and hear a loud pop from the passenger rear. My first reaction, whatever brakes stick, happens.
Then it did it again, then again, a bit louder and a more dramatic feeling. It's my only driver as my TT is out right now in the body shop.
I found out today that my left rear brake light bulb is out. How do I replace it? And where do I buy the light bulb? The manual doesn't say the model # and instructions.

Looking for a diagram of how the rear bulb set should be filled on a 98 Passat Estate. ie: with what bulb types go where. etc.
I have big problems with my brake lights not working when the lights are turned on, then when I change bulbs about, they work but the rear lights do not come on etc, or one side does. All bulbs work, but not as they should together. I know I have a right mess of bulbs in the wrong place. The car is just new to me so trying to sort. I also have one empty bulb set on the outer side of each bulb holder unit and so wonder what this is for and if it is used.
