View 1 RepliesI can't seem to figure out how to replace the alternator on my 2007 V6 Camry. Is there any sort of repair manual available? I've searched and came up empty handed.
View 10 RepliesI have a 2009 Hyundai sonata 2.4, 5 speed manual, gls, how to change /replace the alternator in this car, it looks to be in tight qtrs.!, step by step instructions and or diagrams required., and can a bad alternator make the battery go bad /, I replace the battery with a new one and my dash light of the " battery" stays on most of time , now Oreillys tested my alternator in car and they say my alternator is now bad1, can both go bad at same time!, , and also my ESC light comes on as I start driving after I had just started the car, can this be also tied in with the "bad battery/bad alternator"...
View 7 RepliesI'm having a sudden turnover issue that appears as though it's the battery, but I'm not too sure now. I left work tonight (no problem), drove to a destination about 15min away, came back out in about the same amount time....Dead!
The headlights, dash, & gauges fluttered dimly on. Weird noises was coming from the radio & A/C. I turned back the key, cut the auto headlight thing off, and the A/C and radio off. Turned the key & slowly the dash came up bright, but still didn't have enough juice to turnover. Soon there afterwards, everything else seemed better, but just not starting.
I got a jump from this guy, drove 20mins home, cut the car off, and guess what?... Dead! What's the deal? Battery, Alternator...?
- 2007 Camry
The car was started and moved to its current location to have the alternator replaced.
After replacement the car will not start, turn the key and nothing.
When ignition is turned on everything on dash lights up like it should.
There are no trouble codes currently present on the vehicle except a flapper valve in the econ
The car did have the typical weak battery low voltage sporadic etc from the dead alternator causing the the vehicle to drain the battery.
A known good battery was jumped to the battery in vehicle. The vehicle battery reads just under 12 volts with VAD mobile. When known good battery is hooked up it is at 12 plus volts.
All fuses have been pulled and visually inspected to be good.
Looking for instructions on how to replace the bulb on the passenger side?

How to remove and replace a busted lock cylinder. My wife's car got broken into and used something that punched in the driver's door lock cylinder. VW wants top replace a new lock cylinder. I've been able to remove the drivers door panel but I wasn't able to figure out the final steps.
View 1 RepliesTrying to change the stupid alternator in my 99 A6, which is the same engine/accessory layout as the B5 Passat.
And I didn't realize what I was in for. Is there any way to get to this puppy without dropping the entire front end? By looking at it (nobody stocks Audi,Bentley) it looks like the front end has to come apart all the way to the radiator support..........
Happy owner of a TDI - SEL for just over a year. One week shy of my 40K service, the alternator failed. All repairs covered with my extended warranty. Tech said he hadn't seen another alternator go bad and certainly hadn't seen a 1 year old TDI with 40K miles! Any alternator issues? otherwise been quite happy with the car.

View 1 RepliesWell, the B5 continues to die when left overnight. Seems the Alternator is gone on this thing (my conception)
As soon as I give it a jump, it starts up right away. If I let it run for about 5-10 minutes and then try to restart it, it gives me no issues. If i come back the next morning it will be dead and will need another jump to get it started.
I am thinking that this is the Alternator. I don't have any warning lights that come on, such as "Alternator Worship". Car runs totally fine once its jumped. The battery is not even a year old.
Also, if it does turn out to be the Alternator, which one does my car take? 90amp or 120amp? The car is a 2000 GLX V6 Auto. What can I expect to have it replaced including labor??, or could this possibly be a DIY job? I'm trying to give it a chance before I throw it in neutral and push it off a cliff.
I have a B5 Passat that came in with the alternator workshop light on. Upon a few tests i determined the alternator was bad. I removed the alternator and installed a remand one that was correct for the vehicle. amps and all. After getting it all back together i started it and the car ran fine. I drove it around and shut the car off. Customer took the vehicle and after 15 minutes the car was back for the alternator workshop message being on and battery light again.
I restarted the car and it was off. I restarted it again and it came back on. Replaced the Alternator again with another and took it for a more extensive drive. The lights stayed off this time. I parked the vehicle and shut it down. Waited a few moments and restarted it just to be safe, the lights had came back on again..... After testing it more I've come to find that when the lights are off the alternator is charging the vehicle as it should and when there on the vehicle is not charging. I don't know what it could be at this point but I am absolutely sure its not the alternator.... I honestly don't think this many are bad in a row.
So... I found a pot-hole the other day and I'll be replacing the oil pan tomorrow. It's on a '00 Passat V6 FWD, any tips/tricks or things I should look out for? Do I have to drop the sub-frame, lift the engine, etc... what's the easiest way to go about this? I'll post pictures of the pan tomorrow, but here's a teaser:
Couldn't get underneath to see it yet, but I'm pretty damn sure there's a big hole. And hoping that's all it damaged.
How the heck do you replace the crank shaft position sensor on a v6 b5?? i know where the sensor is and i can see it from under the car, but the wire that goes to it looks like it disappears under the intake manifold when i traced it back?
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to replace the upper control arms on my wifes '00 Passat. I'm having trouble getting the bolt that holds both the upper ball joints to the upright (stearing knuckle, what ever you want to call it) out. I've tried the typical PB blaster, and heat approach. What I can't tell is if that bolt is treaded into part of the upright or not? Is this something I should just be able to punch out with a hammer?
View 5 RepliesSo i JUST got my timing belt replaced on my 2001 B5 Passat 4motion, took it in and got it done. Now when the tech was working on it he said that the car was slow cranking one day, and I have intermittantly seen the same thing before, but i have known for a while that I need a new battery, its old, and randomly have little power, but it has always worked once the car is started.
As soon as i picked the car up yesterday I got the "alternator workshop warning" and quickly the car started to act funny as systems lost enough power to not function correctly (abs light, brake light, etc). Now is there ANYTHING else this could be beside the alternator? fuses, wires, other faults, etc, etc.
have a 2003 infiniti m45...was showing the battery light; co-worker tested with a ohm meter and the reading was 12.5(before stalling); suggested the alternator was bad. Just replaced the alternator and now the ignition won't even turn over(dead as a door knob)...before the change, removed the battery(which is dead by now), followed the steps and now I'm dumbfolded...what could be wrong?
View 4 Replies2003 Dodge Caravan Sport has a metallic rattle near the alternator. It gets louder when it is in Drive or Reverse and you have your foot on the brake. Also, it gets even louder when having your foot on the brake in Drive or Reverse and the heat or air is on. My husband thought it was the power steering pump so we replaced that but it didn't fix it.
View 7 RepliesMy alternator went out last week. I installed a new alternator, battery and serpentine belt. However, the battery is still dying. So far I checked the continuity on the fusible link and it appears to be good. I also checked fuse number 11 which provides power to the voltage regulator. The fuse is not blown. The voltage at the battery while it is running is less than 12 volts and it drops the longer it runs. I also have codes b1318, b1932, c 1226, and c1284.
View 8 RepliesCan I replace the battery in my 06 Passat myself? I've been told that I must take it in to the dealer to have it done, so they can reprogram the car. Doesn't sound right to me.
