Passat (B5) :: 2003 - Air Recirculation Button Won't Work?
Mar 31, 2013
I bough this car (2003 Passat 1.8 turbo) recently and found that air is coming in on highway even air fan is off. I tried to turn on recirculation button, but it is not working (I can't even press it so it hold in ON position). I have read at some TDI forum that it might be air solenoid, but since my Passat is 1.8, location as I understand is different, But I can't find where it is.
May be I should check a fuse? if so where it is located?

My daughter just replaced her 2006 Camry with a 2007 Camry LE.
Her husband has an issue with smoke, car fumes, etc., so they need to keep the ventilation system in recirculation mode all of the time. They know they can hold the recirculation button in for 2-5 seconds to override the system but that is a pain each time they start the car.
Looking for a way to modify the car so it is always in recirculation mode.
Couple ideas we had were:
1) unplug a vacuum control module (would this throw a code)
2) add a timed relay on the recirculation circuit to automatically simulate holding the button for 5 seconds each time car is started (would need wiring schematic)

When I tun off the recirc button on my a/c i get this click, click, click about 5 or 6 times then stops. has to be the blend door for that particular thing.

So after driving my new phaeton for 3 months i realized that my AC re-circulation does not work. When i press the re-circle button , it shows up in the screen. but i don't hear the sounds of the fan any different from deactivating the re-circle. i can smell the bad air from outside even though re-circle is activated.
I believe that the re-circle should function like in other cars. more strong air flow and more colder. Just wondering if it's just the switch that needs to be changed or if there is a valve/door under the dash that I need to look into.

My friend has a 2001 passat and the release button for his gas flap(door) doesn't work. He looked through the trunk to see if there is an emergency cable or a possibility to get it open some other way, but no luck. How he could open it if the button doesn't work??

Am I the only one who thinks the speed of the air coming out of the vents is faster at any given blower setting when recirculation is turned on rather than off? I also noticed that the blower sounds louder with recirculation on rather than off.
My car is a 2014 Passat TDI 6MT with the manual climate control, and has 3,000 miles on it. The cabin filter is basically brand new still and certainly isn't clogged up.

I just bought a 2003 W12 Phaeton with 55.000 km on the clock and a few problems that were knocked off the price.
The car is absolutely fantastic, so much better than my previous 4.2 A8, although I bought with a gearbox problem that dropped the price down to USD 8.000.
The gearbox issue is that it jumps from 1st to 2nd gear with a 'clock' and much harder when the other way around (2nd to 1st). Sometimes so hard that it automatically engages the "safe mode" with the yellow PRNDS sign on the screen. Once on 2nd gear and up, it runs smoothly.
My plan is to take the gearbox off the car and bring it to an expert mechanic on ZF gearboxes, as the VW dealer quotes USD 9.000 for a new gearbox.
Re the other issues, I have plugged in the VCDS after changing both batteries (a standard 90 Ah on the right, a VARTA G14 95 Ah on the left) which show many faults that I can't really identify. The problem I have noticed is that one button on the steering (the OK push button on the right) does not work and when it is pushed, the cruise is deactivated (?). Looks like this module will need to be replaced (VCDS says 'control module defective').
The other issue I have noticed is that the TPMS system doesn't work. On the screen it shows clocks on each wheel... and nothing happens. I guess it's the batteries of the sensors, so I am thinking of replacing them. Would this solve the problem?
I just realized that I did my last VAG-COM check before clearing previous DTCs, so I will do that now and come back to post it.

High beams work, daytime running lights work, fog lights work ........ regular headlights do not work. All fuses are ok.

Brake lights on my 2003 1.8 do not work. This includes the third light in the rear window. I've checked the fuses and bulbs and they're ok. The car recently was in the dealer for the re-call on the in-tank fuel pump. Is there something that I'm overlooking.

My V10 has the wood steering wheel, and the button to turn heat on and off. I have not been able to get this feature to work. On questioning the dealer they said that this option was not offered in Australia. It seems unlikely to me that a manufacturer would make two types of wood wheel as the production run would be more expensive than just one.

Air condition will not work in my car. The A/c button will light up but will not do anything. The fan speed will only work on high and not on the other settings. I mean when I set it on 1-3 it will not kick on the fan. When I switch it to 4 it will kick the fan on but no A/C still even at that setting.

Page 285 of the 2010 Prius Owner Manual states:
"Remote Air Conditioning System" =if equipped
The Remote Air Conditioning System uses electrical energy stored in the hybrid battery (traction battery) and allows the air conditioning to be operated by remote control. My remote controls have this button, but nothing happens when I press them for a couple seconds.

My toyota remote starter works great. The problem is when i use the remote starter and then go to get in the car after it warms up the unlock button on the key will not work. i have to unlock the car manually by putting the key in the door. This only happens when use the remote starter. The unlock button on the key works no problem otherwise.

Dropped my car off at Costco for a few hours (New Tires) and when I picked it up, the "unlock" key on my key fob failed to work. The Lock and trunk unlock keys work but the typical unlock (for the doors) doesn't work at all.

This morning I noticed my Trunk release button by the steering wheel, and the release button on my key fob won't work. Using the key manually does open my trunk though.
I checked, and it is not in the locked valet mode. I do hear a slight "click" when I push either button so it's trying to pop the trunk but no activity.
What this may be? Didn't know if it might be an electrical issue and if there was a fuse to check? Or if maybe it's a mechanical problem and i'll have to get it looked at.

My 2014 Tiguan SEL has been giving me issues with the start button - hesitates at start, tries to start but doesn't and won't start at all. Took to dealership in March/April and they had it for 2 days. "Couldn't duplicate" so nothing was done.
I've read about this same issue in other VW forums and how cleaning the contact points on the start button has eliminated this problem. Unfortunately, the start button on the other VWs is on the steering column. How to remove the start button? Do I need to remove the entire center console? I've already tried by taking off the boot/trim and can't get to the button.

So out of no where, my horn went out on my car. I checked my relay with a fuse tester and it tested fine. My horn works when I press my alarm button but it wont work when I hit the horn button. What can cause this and what needs to be replaced?

It gets really cold in the winter (-30 C is common). Now I'm wondering how does the A/C button on the remote work? Is it literally just for remote air conditioning or can it also be used in freezing temperatures to remotely start the car to warm it up?
Normally I don't warm up my car but when it's been sitting outside in -20C or colder I sometimes let it run a few minutes just to clear the windshield before I drive.
If the A/C button doesn't work the heat also in the freezing cold, will this kit for the regular Prius work?
