I have a weird leak from under the car below the drivers seat. It's waxy, as though something was melting inside the door [maybe]! My mechanic ruled out oil and transmission fluid. If it's from inside the door, could face expensive repair.

View 10 RepliesI have in the last 5000 miles had the timing belt changed and at same time the usual other item - water pump, Thermostat etc,, Engine has 155k on it.
I have had overheating issues that I thought was related to the viscous fan clutch and replaced that (it was bad) and the issue of overheating now just take longer to happen.
I have bled the coolant system and have good hot air out with heater - engine warms up within 1/2 mile of house. I am running right now Prestome all color antifreeze as it was overheating and and loosing liquid as a result.
In trouble shooting yesterday I find that when it now overheats it is leaking at the heater hose on drivers side of heater box. I have repositioned hose and clamp after bleeding it and it still overheats and with pressure build up leaks at this location - this happens when moving or when stationary.
With heat coming from heater box (both hoses get hot) and both fans working would this be bad thermostat? (again have heat) or a bad water pump?
I've had a problem with my driver's seat becoming a little "flimsy" feeling over the last few days. This morning, when adjusting the lumbar support on my driver's seat, I immediately heard a pop. Now the lumbar adjustment doesn't work. The lumbar adjustment piece no longer flexes out and the dial just continues to rotate around until it unscrews completely so that I can see the white plastic screw threads. When I reinsert and retighten the lumbar piece no longer moves.
View 7 RepliesWell, as I saw with a lot of B5/B5.5 Passat's, a lot of drivers seats seems to be loose in the tracks... the loose seems to be up/down from the rear right corner when accelerate/braking maneuver is done.

Popping coming from their driver seat? It mostly "pops" when I apply the brakes coming to a full stop or sometimes after I stopped and accelerate, the seat back pops. It's intermittent and I'm afraid the dealership cannot replicate the problem when I take it in.

View 1 RepliesYesterday I went to reach for a piece of paper that fell under the drivers seat and relized that my carpet was wet, i went to look and i had a puddle, i think I might have gone into a small puddle that day, but it was the day after it rained, no trail for the door to the puddle either it seemed, to seep in through the bottom or somewhere else.

View 2 RepliesIn April of this year I had a large amount of water in the rear passenger area..Long story short it was the pollen filter..Dealership got it covered with my extended warranty, but yet I had to pay 1200.00 to replace the carpet..They also replaced the Control unit?? Wiring harness and housing...So, now fast forward to 2 days ago. I had a FLOOD in the rear DRIVER seat this time.I called to let them know and they said to bring it in Monday for emergency appt..My plan was to drop it off Sunday evening..during the night of rain we had Saturday I hear a god awful noise at 4 Am..My car is all lit up in orange lights.We had to disc the battery to stop the noise and lights..later that morning we got the wet-vac and hooked up the battery again. It started fine, but then all the lights went crazy and everything got all whacked out.
My trunk no longer closes...so we disc the battery and call AAA to tow to dealer..They just called me now..of course they need it for a day or 2 to determine the problem and see if it is covered! it damn well better be..they got it covered last time. I am beyond irate at this point. No doubt the car is in the same condition as before...main computer is obviously screwed up again..If they think I am paying 1 penny they are sadly mistaken..twice in 2 months?? Something is definitely hinky here..last time before they determined it was the pollen filter, they told me they cleared all drainage area and ruled out all that so they can't tell me that was the problem this time..They can't get clogged in 2 months when for the past 5 years I have NEVER had this issue.
I just purchased a 99 1.8t and the drivers seat will not lock in place. It slides back and forth. I looked underneath and see the gearing but was wondering if this is a problem to where I need to remove the seat to fix or maybe some thing easier.

View 11 RepliesI don't know what to try next. I have a short somewhere, just don't know how to track it down. I checked the fuse for the drivers seat and it was blown. I stuck a new one in and the thing blew as soon as I stuck it in. I disconnected the seat motors, plugged in a fuse and it blew again as soon as I stuck it in. How to track this down?
I don't see any worn or shorted wires under the seat. I checked under the passenger side kick panel per another post I found, but that looks fine. I don't know where to look or what to test.
I have noticed new drivers seat squeak. It only happens with weight transfer side to side at lower speeds ( hard right and hard left below 30 mph, or entering a driveway). I have looked at several posts and it seems like people have had luck with simply tightening the bolts for the seat.
Well I did that and it still making the noise. I have isolated the noise to the lower part of the seat right behind the molding. Behind the molding and behind the seat control switches there is a white box for the switches. It seems like the noise is coming from there. I noticed that if I pop off the control switches and I loosen the screws for the control switches the noise gets a touch better.
I took it to the dealership and they told me they tried to add some oil between the leather and the molding but it did nothing since the source seems to be behind the molding.
