2003 Passat 1.8T, 53,000 miles. There's a clunk coming from the front passenger side so I jacked the car up today and checked it out. Not much play at all when I moved the wheel. Tie rod ends look good, CV boots are intact, control arm bushings look good........except for one. The outer bushing on the passenger side lower rear arm is cracked. I assume this means I should replace that arm?
View 5 RepliesGot the car back from the wheel shop who installed coilovers and some rims on the car. Riding on 20x8.5 in front and 20x10 out back. Noise coming from the front passenger side.
There was a loose tie rod, tightened it up
Took out the wheel, checked the bolts.
Checked brakes (he painted the calipers for me)
Checked rotors etc
Only happens when I accelerate the car. Barely makes the noise in reverse.

It only seems to happen every few days. I have noticed it when I come to a stop, then I hear a repetitive knock coming from under the front passenger side of the car. knock, knock... 7 times, in rhythm, not decreasing in volume, then it stops. Kind of like a gnome trying to get in from under the car... It does not sound like something is flapping or swinging as the knocks are consistent, it sounds mechanical in nature. The car is at the dealer right now for that and other things but they cannot get it to make that noise.
View 8 RepliesThe tweeter and the speaker in my passenger side front door have this awful hissing sound coming from them. The sound gets louder and quieter with driving. Could it be a lose connection at the headunit or would it be to each speaker? The speakers are stock by the way.

After this winter (midwest) I notice a creaking sound (like bedsprings) coming from the front end, passenger side. Car also seems rather bouncy on rough roads. Husband check the shocks and struts and says they are fine. What else could it be? Sway bar, ball joints, etc. and estimated cost - will take to a mechanic...
View 2 RepliesMy '02 F150 just developed an oil leak. It appears to be coming from the passenger side front. I'm just assuming here, but could it more than likely be the timing cover? I'm 150 miles from home and I'm debating on getting the timing cover gasket on my way home tomorrow. Also, if it is the timing cover, what other gaskets should I replace? Pretty sure the water pump oring.

Here's the kicker: It only happens when I turn LEFT!!!! I checked and there is nothing obvious that sticks out to touch the tire when it turns...
I looked threw the Front End Noise thread and there seems to be a few different problems. I don't have the Brake shim noise. Mine has a random clunk that comes from the front pass side. I took it to the dealer and as expected they had never heard of any problems ect even after I told them about the TSB for the brake noise.
Someone in the Original front end noise thread said that thought it could be a coil loading and unloading ect. This seems to be in the ball park of what my noise could be. The question is How should I go about get a dealer to fix it.
Have a 1998 F-150....heard a strange noise coming from the front passenger side of the truck. Parked and turned the wheel and heard something fall off. It appears to be a shield of some sort.
View 2 RepliesI've got a "clunk" in my front passenger side suspension. I'm running stock struts with H&R sport springs that I put in about 10,000-15,000kms ago. The clunk is inconsistent and seems to only happen in the parking lot when I'm backing out of a stall. When I pull forward, I get a couple clunks coming from that side? Could this be tie-rod?
View 17 RepliesI have a click/clunk in my front brakes, passenger side. Happens mostly braking and turning right into my driveway. It was recently attributed to a strut bearing, but this was not the case, and their replacement didn't fix the problem.
Dealer has said it's a common noise and occurs after service. The only way to stop the noise is to stop lubing the calipers so they drag.
I say they are full of crap. This has now been going on at least 30k km. I have documented it on every oil change that I can remember (always at the dealer). Any way I should be handling it?
I have a 2002 Camry, and recently on the passenger side towards the front wheel there has been a fairly persistent thump or clunk when I brake at low speeds (i.e. immediately before a full stop). I took it to my local mechanic yesterday to see if he could figure it out, and unfortunately he wasn't, although he did point out that my dog bone was cracked and suggested changing that out. Afterwards, the thump/clunk did seem to be more subdued, but it's still obviously there.
View 12 RepliesI have a 2004 Passat 2 wheel drive. I've noticed when going around right hand corners there is a Whop Whop noise seeming to come from my passenger side front tire. If I he really slow you can not hear it while going around corners. But I'm only hearing it going around right corner. I'm not sure what it is. I've went and has my rim and tires looked at. I took it in for a fuel filter to be put on and because I'm going out of town I had them inspect the my car they said nothing.
View 5 RepliesI have a 1998 F150 with a 4.6 engine and is a 4x4 now the other day when I was backing out of the garage I heard a clunk noise and it seems like it is coming from the right front, so I tried it going forward it made the same noise but not as bad. There is no road noise and all the u joints are good and tight, the noise was when I gave it a little gas. My question is the front cv u joint would this make the noise? And what about the hub? What is the proper why to check the CV joint and the hub? The noise was when I was in 2 wheel drive.
View 14 RepliesProud second owner of a nice passat wagon auto with 94k miles.. Slightly worsened the last 10k miles is an occasional clunk from up front, driver side..
What seems to happen is say slowing down to a red lite, when it suddenly turns green so the throttle input either causes an engine mount or something to do with second gear makes a clunk.. if I'm real smooth with the gas pedal I can avoid this noise.. and if I run the engine all out thru the gears I don't notice it.. The car is stock..

View 2 RepliesThe sound is coming from the front passenger side. The noise gets louder the faster I go, put in neutal and noise still there press brake noise there turn wheel no change in pitch. Jacked it up and there's no play in wheel. Just changed both front wheel bearings 6 months ago.
Just changes all brakes today and got all new tires today. I'm thinking maybe the differential bearing but not sure and if so how to change it. I travel from Mississippi to Baton Rouge, LA everyday for work, about 240 miles round trip. What would happen if a bearing went out while driving 70 mph on interstate.
So we have an oil leak in our 2005. It is coming from the front of the engine on the passenger side. The oil was changed on May 15th. And it has only leaked since then. Any thoughts on what it may be? What part of the engine deals with oil in that part of the engine compartment? We will take it back to the place that last changed it and have them check it out as well.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. It has about 55K miles. I really like my car and outside of regular maintenance since I bought it I've had no issues, until now. I bought it used 1.5 years ago, and it is a prior salvage (back-end wreck). My Dad is an auto body mechanic though also knows the non-auto body stuff, and he looked it over thoroughly and test drove it with me and said it was in great condition.
I'm going to try to explain this best I can, I'm not a car person though. When I turn left not from a complete stop, so when I'm turning left and there is no stop sign or stop light and I do not need to yield, it sounds like I have a bag of sand or something and all of the weight and sand is shifting from one side to the other. Oh, and I had my mechanic father drive it, he can't hear it because he's very hard of hearing. My Mom heard it though.
The noise sounds like its coming from the front passenger side. I checked the front glove compartment to make sure it wasn't just something shifting around in there.
I have 2002 BMW 325xi (all wheel drive). For about 2-3 months now there is a squeaky noise coming from passenger side front wheel. It sounds like a really bad and rusty coil spring but the weird part is that that noise only appears in warm weather. It has nothing to do with how much distance I drive. If it is 70 odd degrees or warmer outside, the noise starts. In warm weather, the car does not have to be running/moving to hear the noise. I can just push down the passenger side front and hear the noise. I took to a mechanic and he wants me to replace tie rods, control arm and struts. basically the whole suspension system on the front for this noise (in other words, he does not know what exactly is making the noise, so replace everything)
