View 4 RepliesHistory: 2005 Prius has 130,000 miles and was rear ended in mid November (less than 2 months ago) on drivers side rear.
Yesterday my husband was driving at 65 MPH when all the lights on the dash all lit up for a second before the entire car died. The car was DEAD, wouldn't do anything except the lights worked (I'm assuming cause it's the starter battery). Ran hazards for approx an hour waiting on tow truck but the rear left light only flashed approx 1 in 10 times compared with the rear right light. Car had a terrible burned smell.
1.5 hours later the tow truck shows up and says "your car smells terrible". We towed it to Toyota Dealership.
My dashboard lights and radio are not working. I checked the radio fuses and they are ok. I cant find why these aren't working.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon. I have an aftermarket radio in my car that has the capability to be hooked up to a rear view camera. I did not put it in, I also do not have a back up camera. It was done before I got the car. At first it was just a quirky thing, whenever I would turn on the headlights, the radio would switch to back up mode. I would turn the radio on and then off again and everything was fine. Then every once in a while the radio and clock would reset. I kept getting annoyed with that so I left the light switch on. (When i turn my car off the headlights turn off as well) Then it occasionally started resetting when i turned the car on. Now as I drive down the road and my car has been on for 20 min, half hour, the dashboard lights turn off and the clock and radio reset.
View 10 RepliesLast week, my 2002 V6 Camry decided it didn't want to start when the key was turned. That was with my wife driving. By the time I got out there, the car was running just fine. She said it didn't turn over, didn't click, nothing.
Today, it did it again, but it didn't have that magic reawakening like it had last week. I tried jumping it to see if it was the battery, but it did not change anything.
Here's what happens: Turn key to run position, and the dashboard lights up.
Turn key to start position, and there's silence. The clock on the dash turns off (as normal), but the only noise under the hood is the sound of the starter relay making a single click.
Does that mean the next place to look is the starter Solenoid? Can I jump the solenoid like on an old car to see if that starts her up?
I've got a 2002 Passat 4cyl whose battery has been replaced twice in a month and died again today. I drove it for 30 minutes yesterday and found it dead about 24 hours later. Putting an ammeter in series with the ground cable, I only see a 10-20 milliamp draw with the car closed and locked. With the car running, I see 14 volts across the battery terminals, so I'm assuming the alternator is working.
View 5 RepliesWife was driving in the Target parking lot when the warning lights came on. Car shuddered and died shortly thereafter. I just had the car in for them to replace a leaking bolt on the oilpan. After I got the car back the power steering would go off for small periods of time. The idle was also raised to approx 1000rpm. It used to idle at 500 prior to the replacement of the bolt, car was jittery at a stoplight, vibrating alot and jumping when you released the brake. Its in the shop now, and they are installing a new alternator. They will check on the other issues once the alternator is done. Its a 2007 B6 4MO Wagon....
View 17 RepliesThis just started out of nowhere ... I took a sharp turn and all of a sudden, it sounded like a marble running from the left to the right of the dashboard. Took a turn in the other direction, and the "marble" rolled from right to left.
It is definitely not something that fell into the dashboard, so I feel it must be a component that came loose under the dash. But is there really a "channel" that runs across the length of the dash? Is there a way to access the innards without having to remove the whole dash assembly?
Recently it rained pretty hard over here and my sunroof leaked pretty badly. Carpets were soaked, upholstery on roof got soggy, and I think some water dripped into the cluster or something maybe. So this is almost all a water damage issue I believe.
Since then, whenever i start my car there will be a series of 5 beeps that repeat 5 times, coming from the cluster. I did some research and it could be because the airbag warning lamp is out (it's light should flash when i turn the car on but it doesn't).
On top of that, the cluster gauges, lights, and radio lights, flicker for the first minute or 2 of driving and appears they flash on/off faster as i apply gas.
Applying gas also seems to interrupt the airbag beeping as the lights flicker. Car seems to run fine as far as I know other than that.
Did some more research on that and all I come across are alternator problems. From what I've read the alternator is hard to reach on 02 Escapes, and it could be very expensive so I'm REALLY hoping that's not the issue.
Ok thinking of getting a 2.0T... What is the part# or where to get tail lights w/ amber LED turn signal lights ?
Basically is there a difference between the euro spec and our spec tail light cluster? Kind of what vortex did w/ their project EOS.
I have a 2002 passat I pulled the ground when replacing the turbo. Now the aftermarket radio will not turn off. It has killed the battery twice now. How to fix it?
View 5 RepliesSunroof left and windows were left open and we received about 3 inches of rain before I closed them. Now they don't work, the door locks don't work and the car won't start.
View 2 RepliesI'm having an electrical problem that's resulting in the hazards, dash lights, radio and clock all constantly flashing on and off repeatedly. The car starts fine.
When investigating under the hood, I found a wire (pictures below) that wasn't connected to anything. I'm not sure if this is what's causing the problem, but I figured this was a good place to start.
What this wire is supposed to be attached to, and if it has anything to do with the flashing lights I'm experiencing?
What this wire is or possible causes of these flashing lights.
My radio, power windows and map lights all at the same time work intermittently. I have changed the relay. No blown fuses. Sometimes they all work and then for no reason that I can tell, they all go off. right before they all come back on (which you never know when it will happen) I hear a click in our around the fuse panel.

View 7 RepliesLess than two weeks ago I had the fuel pump replaced and battery terminals replaced on my 2006 PT Cruiser Touring Edition (not turbo.) I have almost 90,000 miles and have had very few minor issues all these years.Car stalled while driving, towed it to mechanic, he diagnoses fuel pump failure. So I had him replace fuel pump, and while I was there had battery terminals replaced, since I've dealt with some pesky corrosion recently.
I've never had electrical problems with this car. So here I am a week after repair, I'm driving and hear an electrical pop in the dash, then the radio turns off and back on within a few seconds. Nothing else happened, I chalk it up to a fluke and keep going. Well it happened again yesterday! Exact same "pop" then radio turns off, comes back on in 2-3 seconds.
Both events happened during the day, so I don't know yet if my headlights had been on, would this "pop" have affected lights too? Perhaps.
So what I'd like to know is: when the mechanic was replacing the fuel pump and battery terminals, do those repairs involve him messing with wiring at all? Could he have left a grounding wire disconnected? I've read a little about the fuel pump relay, but I have not been able to confirm that 2006 PT Cruiser has a fuel pump relay. ? Any other theories on what could be shorting out, creating an electrical "pop"?
When my truck is cold, I have to turn the key two or three times to get it to start. By that I mean I turn the key, turn it all the way off, and turn it again until the engine starts. The first two times, it doesn't crank or make any noise at all, but the radio and dashboard lights come on. I got the truck in May and it hasn't done this all summer. Also, if it idles at a red light when it is cold, it will stop running and I have the same problem as above when I try to re-start it.There is also a smell of burning rubber in the cab once it has warmed up.

View 19 RepliesAfter 90K miles of using Castrol 5W30 dyno and changing it every 3-3.5K miles , I have just changed to 0W40 Mobil Synthetic. I have a 2002 Passat V6 automatic tip . I am hoping to have a smoother idle at stop lights .
View 5 RepliesStarted Ex yesterday morn for a couple minutes then all of a sudden radio went dead along with fuel gauge and digital odometer. I shut down then re-fired and all worked again.
View 4 RepliesMy brake lights on the drivers side do not come on when braking, however, the regular nighttime lights are fine. Does this mean the probem is the brake light switch? The right side brake lights are fine. Where is the brake light switch and how do I access it?
