I have a 2002 passat and i have a squeak coming the front end of my car when i decelerate (let off the gas and coast, at low speeds). The car is a 5 speed. From other cars I have had, it sounds like it is the ebrake, like it kind of sticks on a little bit. When I coast while in neutral it does not do it. It also does it when I am in reverse, like leaving a parking spot.
View 6 RepliesI have a 1999 VW Passat 1.8T and the ABS light and Brake light come on from time to time but never steady for more than a few days at a time. I'm not sure why but my brakes work fine. The only possible thing is a squeak from the front brakes but they squeaked before the light came on. What this might be or how to fix it?
View 3 RepliesYesterday I had my snow tires installed at Costco. Immediately afterward I noticed that the rear brakes squeak when I apply the brakes. I took the car back to Costco and asked them if they applied the proper torque or if anything unusual appeared during the change-over. They said no.... I loosened and retorqued the wheels and no change......they still squeak when I apply the brakes.
Questions: I assume there are wear indicators on the rear pads, could this be causing the squeeling? If so, aren't they supposed to squeel all the time when they reach their limit? I haven't inspected the wear yet...... What the tolerance is for the amount of lining on the pad. Could this be a rotor problem? I"m not feeling any pedal vibration.
Is there anything out there? My brakes are starting to squeak and squeal a little bit. I am guessing its coming from the rear as reading the forums the rears are biased and wear out first....
I would like to possibly do them all at once or at least make a purchase for everything at once....but looking for an upgrade.
The ABS and ESC lights (amber) in my 06 Sonata are coming on intermittently.....
The lights just come on while driving....the ESC switch doesnt have any effect.....the brakes seem to work well....then, after several start cycles the lights will go out and all will be well again....then after a few start cycles and while driving they come on again.
I used the code tester from autozone but no codes are stored...they told me that brake codes aren't always accessible with their hand held unit though....
Also, I have noticed that when turning left or right I get a squeaking from the front brakes now and then,...it was doing this before the ABS/ESC light issue though...
I have a 1998 1.8T with 180 000km's. The timing belt was done 3000km's ago. It seems to be in excellent shape except just this week I have heard a very slight squeak when I shut her off. I think maybe it is a fan bearing but I'm unsure...

View 7 RepliesMy front suspension squeaks very loudly when going over even the slightest of bumps. I've looked at similar threads and have noticed some people replace the entire control arm, some just replace control arm bushings, others change the strut mounts/bearings.
Am I better off replacing all 3 components (control arms, bushings, and strut mounts/bearings) or just doing CA bushings and/or strut mounts? Do control arms normally need to be replaced? Car has 90K miles, and is daily driven year around during the cold Minnesota winter. My knowledge of suspension components is limited.
My wife and I bought a 2002 Passat Wagon 4Motion V6 this fall and we really like the car. It recently got very, very cold here and the drivers door makes a loud unlubricated squeak every time we open it. It has warmed up but the squeak remains. What kind of lube to use on the door hinges? Silicon spray or something else?
View 4 Replies02 Civic, 1.7L, 114K Found the front brakes sticking. I popped the bleeder open and got a little squirt out of the left side and a less of a squirt out of the right. I'm in the process of changing the pads which are on order from Rockauto. I took the existing pads off and lubed the pad guides/holding slots but I felt them starting to drag again after a short test drive. Also they did not seem to respond properly with normal braking. How would I test the caliper(s)? It's got to be a bad caliper or master cylinder causing this and I just don't want to throw parts at it.
View 19 RepliesI have been told that my back brakes need replacing and the place suggested it would need to include replacing the drums. They wanted about $400 for new drums and pads and such. I have never in all the years I have owned a car had to ever have anything but pads replaced on any of my cars brakes. I have had the car checked a number of times and no one till this last place who was also replacing my front wheel baring said anything about needing new drums and such. If the drums were that bad would you not hear something or feel something while braking?
My car: 2002 Kia Sedona Mini van/149,000 miles on it, I got it with 135,000 on it and have not had any break work done to this point because I was told it wasn't needed.
It's a farm truck, lumber getter trailer puller. Not driven often, after sitting for awhile the brakes seem to be pulsing in front like antilock, as if braking on ice. I checked both front caliper springs or plunger slides and they are free not froze up.
View 1 RepliesSo my front brakes are squeaking pretty damn bad, and I'm pretty sure that I need to replace them. However, with the history that we have with the rears wearing faster than the fronts, and since neither have been replaced in 30K miles.
I don't want to have to come back and go at it again, and would rather spend one day then two getting the job done. .
I have a 2002 VW Passat wagon. We have had an extremely cold winter here in New England (coldest January since 1898!). Anytime the temperature goes under 10 degrees overnight, my brakes do not work in the morning. When I put my foot on the brake pedal, it does not move and the car will not stop. It takes quite a while before I have full breaking capacity restored. Eventually, it gets back to normal (sometimes takes 45 minutes of driving). In addition, the last time this happened, before I got full braking back, my front brakes locked up and smoked like crazy. When I put my foot on the gas, they disengaged. I've taken the car in for service, left it with the dealer the night before so that it would be there, cold, in the morning, but the problem didn't occur because the temp didn't get cold enough. They couldn't find anything wrong. That's because the brakes work fine when the temp is above 10 degrees. Also, under the same temperature conditions, my automatic transmission will not shift beyond 2nd gear until the car is warmed up.
View 18 RepliesI have an 02 Passat 1.8t that drags the brakes when I am driving to the point that they start smoking when I get off the interstate and my gas mileage is terrible. When I first observed this dragging I popped the hood and found that the check valve on the hose that connects to the end of the intake manifold had a chunk missing and was hissing. I did some research and found that this hose leads to the brake booster so i bought a new valve at the stealership and installed it and I am still having the issue.
I checked all the other hoses around that area and underneath the manifold for leaks and the only thing I found was a hole in the small hose that connects to the very front of the intake manifold that leads to the N249 thingy which i fixed but i haven't tested the brakes yet. When I start my car after it hasn't been on for a while my car does alright for about 10 minutes before the brakes start dragging again. Also pumping my brakes doesn't seem to work much.
Looking for the right VAGCOM procedure to disable the brake sensors? I replace my brakes and the new ones didn't have the sensors. Now I get the nice "Brakes Low Warning".

View 16 RepliesI got a 2002 passat 1.8t in the shop fixin some bodywork on it. When its in the cold the brake pedal gets rock hard and if you step on it the brake lights come on and stay on, when it stays in the shop its fine.
Read online about an issue with water getting in the brake booster and freezing. found nothing in the search...
Alright so my brakes squeak a lotttt and its really annoying and embarrassing. They feel fine stopping power wise, i dont get vibrations and the car doesnt pull to either side, I looked at my pads and it looks like i have a 1/4in left on them which im pretty sure is good. I really want this to go away... do we have electronic sensors telling us we need new pads? Untill then ill be partially using my hand brake to reduce the embarrassment.
View 12 RepliesI have a 2013 2.5L Golf (Highline from Canada) that every morning when I go to work and every afternoon when I leave work, the brakes squeak for the first 2 to 3 stops.
It doesn't seem weather dependent, just cold dependent (now that it is cold in Canada).
Is this normal for a set of stock Golf pads? I am pretty sure its coming from the rears.
Out of all the cars I have owned (1973 BMW E3 Bavaria, 88 E28 535is, 01 E39 540i), none have ever made this much noise in the morning, no matter what the conditions were like.
If this is normal for stock pads, I will probably put a set of aftermarket ones.
I bought new brakes for the R, Hawks HPS pads with ECS tuning 2 peice rotors.
Me and a friend installed them in June. I went threw the break in procedure written on the box that came with the pads. The brakes work fantastic, they stop the car so much better than stock but the problem I have now is that loud squeak when braking normally. If I do a hard braking no squeak but I can't do that all the time, my passengers are going to hate me hehe. The squeak sounds almost like metal on metal grinding. When I inspect the rotors everything looks fine.
When installing them I used the paste that came with the pads and installed the metal backing that came with them too. I can't seem to figure out what I did wrong. Haven't really had time to take everything apart again either but I think I might do that this weekend but before I do that is there anything I should have on hand?
