I have a leak somewhere in my car. There are no spots left from my parking stall, or any visible wet spots under the hood, but my car continuously looses fluid somewhere. It disappears fast enough that in a 10 minute drive it can go from full to the coolant light and alarm going off on the dash.

View 3 RepliesJust bought a 2002 Prius for my daughter at an auction and the car has been driving fine the last few days even though the hybrid warning light has been on and off. Found no fault code with OBDII. Found out later from Toyota service history the cause of the hybrid warning light was a leaked hybrid battery. The previous owner disposed the car off at the auction before the problem was fixed.
I was driving today and the coolant high temperature came on and I can't rev/drive. Stopped engine and re-start after a while and coolant high temperature warning light gone. Drove a short distance and coolant high temperature warning light came back on. Used a OBDII and found no fault code. Radiator hose by the radiator cap is cold but hose at the top right side of radiator by the hybrid system is hot. Opened radiator cap and it is full of coolant.
The car has been serviced on 12/26/2012 before it went to the auction. Can air pocket trapped in the radiator cause this coolant high temperature warning light and can't rev/drive problem. Also today is the first time we didn't use the heater. We used the heater to defog the windscreen and heater work.
My passat has an alarm that will begin chirping every two or three minutes usually in the middle of the night and parked under my bedroom. I unlock doors with keyless remote and the doors will relock themselves after about a minute sometimes immediately. The only way to get this chirping to stop is to open the door of the car, sets off alarm and then lock system with the key. If I try to open the windows with the key the windows will only go down a inch or so and the locks will engage.
This will also happen when I do not lock the vehicle and set the alarm. I am willing to disengage the chirping entirely as I am not an alarm fan, especially now at 3AM resetting my car alarm. Typically this happens after the vehicle has been parked for 4-5 hours. If this system is pneumatic could there be a leak?
2004 Passat TDI owner
OK Wife has been coming home and the car smells like coolant. The tiny hose from the rad cap to the reservoir isn't pressurized and popping the res cap does not release pressure. Do they are supposed to pressurized?
The coolant level is in the exact middle of high and low just after a 25 minute highway drive. I cant see any puddles or leaks anywhere on the tray; but I have pulled the tray anyway to see if leaks show up on my floor. Temp gauge never wavers at all from what she tells me.
This is a bit perplexing. Maybe a bad rad cap?
I have a vw passat '02 w/100k miles the coolant light came on back in early dec. and I purchased a coolant recommended to me -Zerex dex cool and added very little. It was running fine until Monday morning when it was -5. I added some more and the engine light came on after driving for 3 minutes. I did notice that there was 'froth' inside on the cap when I opened the coolant reservoir. Is the engine light on because of the coolant or it it something else?
View 8 RepliesI have a 2002 passat. it is a v6 with a manual trans (i do not know about gls or anything like that) but the coolant stop light is coming on and if i drive, it runs hotter than normal. i assume it is a thermostat stuck closed but is there anything else i should look at before i make that assumption?
View 2 RepliesI have an '02 Santa Fe GLS V6 2WD. I am having a strange problem and do not know what it could be. When car is cold, it starts up and runs with no problems. After about 15-20 mins, there is a slight hesitation or studder. RPM's drop slightly and shutters. When i accel, engine studders, then runs fine. This only happens when at idle in drive. At highway speeds there is no problem. What can this be?

Where to look under the hood for loose or broken clamps or hoses that may be the culprit. Which hoses (color?) are the ones to check?
About 8 to 10 minutes into the drive and....beeeep, I have an "Airbag Fault" on the dash. Just showed up out of the blue.
View 1 RepliesA week ago before I left for h20 my battery light came on, i drove for 10 mins and it went off. I also had a battery test and alternator test at that time and everything showed up ok. I drove 800 miles all good. Last night the battery light came on again, I was far from home so just tried making it back but the car dies on me. Before it died the traction and abs light turned on, the lights dimmed, when I gassed it the lights would get a tiny bit brighter. Also my gauges got stuck at the rpm i was driving at and 70 mph, even though i came to a stop already.
When i tried to gas the car it was backfiring, sometimes i couldn't even give it gas. Only way to start the car was to jump it, then i can drive a little before the car died again.
I drove with my battery box off the highway because highway patrol said i have to and got towed how from there last night. The ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY WERE CHANGED a year and a half ago apx 12000 miles, all oem equipment for the alternator. The serpentine belt and tensioner on top have also been changed and serviced.
I have a 1987 Chevrolet Celebrity that on the exterior is in pretty rough shape but seems to run great overall. The car is only driven to and from work which is only about 4 miles each direction. So it is drive 8-10 miles a day 5 days a week. It starts great and doesn't seem to have any problems except for the flickering oil light. After about 10 minutes of driving the oil light will start to flicker whenever the car is stopped (i.e., a stop light or drive-through) As soon as I start to drive again it will stop flickering. This problem seems exacerbated on especially not days and it happens earlier than normal. It does have an oil leak so I check the oil often but this happens even when the oil is at a normal level. I don't really want to take the car in because it isn't worth anything and I don't really want to invest money into it. What might cause a flickering oil light?
View 10 RepliesI have a '99 1.8T Passat. The coolant temperature gauge normally reaches operating temperature of 190 degrees within about 5 minutes and stays there. For some reason, after reaching 190, it sometimes drops by 20-30 degrees and is running cooler than normal. Once time it dropped down, then came back up again, while driving a steady 65 mph. The coolant level is full and nothing else has changed.
I guess there are a few possibilities: a thermostat stuck open too far, a failing temperature sensor, bad gauge, or loose connection at the sensor. The car has 145K miles and the thermostat and water pump were replaced at about 100K miles. What is going on? If it runs a little too cool, is that a big deal? How would I diagnose it? Where is the temperature sensor?
I replaced the fuel tank on my 91 SSE and now the SES light comes on after you drive for 10 minutes. When you park for a time and restart the car the light is off .It comes back on again after 10 minutes. When replacing the tank I did find part of the EVAP line from the tank to the canaster rusted thru and replaced it.The gas cap appears to be OK. The engine runs fine no problems starting or accelerating . Where should I look?
View 5 RepliesThis 2002 ford escape 3.0 xlt 4x4. on the dash you have your transmission #s laid out . the #1 seems to always be highlighted in a square. but as you move the shifter to whatever gear you want there is another square that highlights the selected gear. Also, before when you would have it in D it would flash back and forth from D to 2 just the lights not the transmission.
View 1 RepliesI turned on the car today and about a couple minutes into my drive I noticed the airbag light was on. I pulled over, turned off the car, then turned it back on. The light came on with the rest of the warning lights, turned off when they all turned off, and then came back on a couple seconds later and stayed on. The car has just been sitting in my driveway. Only thing worth noting was that last night, while walking past the car, I noticed I had left one of the windows open. Also noticed my glovebox was open since I had gotten something out of it earlier in the day but forgot to close it. I turned the ignition half way to just use the battery to close the window (without turning the car on) and went to bed.
View 29 RepliesAfter the car has sat for awhile 1-2 hours, when I start it back up the engine coolant temp light comes on and remains on for 1-3 minutes. This happens regardless of the ambient temp outside. It can be 40 degrees up to 80 and it will still come on. This started a few months ago, I have drained and flushed the cooling system, and wondering id this may be an indication that my thermostat is faulty and needs to be changed.

After installing Banks headers and full exhaust, I took my truck for another test drive this morning. SES light came on about 15 mins into drive and is telling me P0174 - Bank 2 Lean.

OK i have a 2001 2002 passat with factor alarm. I though since i have over came my problems with it, id let all those that are going through the pain of not being able to lock there car without the alarm going off a few pointers! OK what i did....
1). Firstly checked all micro switches in doors, by opening them and seeing how the internal lights reacted - eg if the light came on when door is opened, was there a delay?. IF there is a delay ur mirco switch might be on the way out and could be causing problems.
2). Don't forget there is a micro switch on the bonnet and boot lids as well.
3). I also checked the comfort control panel which is under the passengers front floor (there is issues with the drain holes around the batter blocking and letting water into the inside of the car and flooding the comfort control panel (alarm panel). I HAD KINDA this problem and had to unblock these drain holes.
4). If ALL these are ok and working the have a look near the battery and just under the heater pipes there is the alarm system speaker with back up battery! (I flooded this area when washing my car - or in the rain as the water was not draining as it was blocked! hence shorting out my battery and speaker! Causing the alarm to go off ALL the time!)

My 2002 Passat 1.8T just turned over 100K miles and coming home from a long ride the other day I went round a curve and got the STOP-low engine oil pressure alarm. I immediately stopped and checked the oil and it was full. I restarted the car and the alarm was gone so I drove on home and around a few more days.
Then last weekend it happened again. Now if I crank it up and try to drive up the hill it comes on. Having it towed in the morning to the shop. Is it just a bad oil pump, bad censor, stopped up oil screen or what?
I recently had my timing belt | water pump changed as preventative maintenance. I have 126K on the clock. Two days after having it done, the "low coolant - stop safely" light comes on for about two minutes during cold start. I checked the reservoir during the cold start and no coolant disappears. So, it seems to me that coolant is at level. What gives?
One more thing, just had my door replaced as well and the SRS service light tripped and the body shop didn't have a scanner to clear the fault. Is that common? 2005 Xc90 2.5t...
