Passat (B5) :: 2000 - Loosing Coolant Through Reservoir Overflow

Sep 22, 2006

I have a 2000 passat tdi, over the past months ive noticed that I have been loosing coolant through my coolant reservoir overflow, my car has been running perfectly, my mechanic told me that its likely to be a head gasket problem and he put ceramic sealer in the coolant system, which was a disaster, the coolant pressure became much worse and told he me I needed a new radiator, which he fitted, but there was no improvement, whilst my mechanic was working on the car he noticed that when my car was running if he removed the oil filler cap the engine breathed heavily, my mechanic told me that the engine would need replacing,so I should sell the car as soon as possible.

I found it difficult to believe my trusty VW was in such a bad state, as it has only done 87000s mile and has full service history and starts and runs like a dream. Today I went for a second opinion, they told me that the coolant problem was because of a defected water pump, with most likely the plastic impellers failing, and the engine breathing problem could be down to a blocked breather at the top of the engine.

When I stopped I checked coolant t as low and left orange rust dust around and under overflow I have topped off but can't find a leak. I clean it and it comes back I have a leak somewhere? Head gasket? But oil is fine I drive my truck 200 miles no issues?

IS F (2008-2014) :: Coolant Overflow Reservoir Leaking?

Experiencing a hairline crack on the coolant overflow reservoir?

I noticed a bunch of dried coolant during my last oil change, ended up tracking it to where the upper radiator hose meets the reservoir. It's leaking a few drops per week, but it's enough to be irritating. I was only able to catch it by feeling the underside of the hose.

Passat (B5) :: 2000 1.8T - Oil In Coolant Reservoir

My buddy has a 2000 1.8T Passat and he has oil in coolant reservoir. It does not blow out any smoke. It runs fine, and does NOT have coolant in the oil. We pulled off the oil/coolant heat exchanger on the oil filter and it appears to be good. We blocked off one end and filled it with coolant and put compressed air to the other end. Nothing came out. He took it to the shop and they said the turbo seals were good. I can't verify that though.

Head gasket? Worse yet cracked head or block? The car does have 170,000 miles.

Civic - Honda :: 2000 EX - Overheating And Loosing Coolant

I have a 2000 honda civic ex that I recently bought used. It ran fine with no problems for a good month then the check engine light came on and it started overheating. I could smell burning oil and see smoke rising from the hood. I checked the coolant and it was all out. So I filled it back up. Drove about 20 miles and during the drive when sitting idle the car would shudder and jolt around for a second, after about 20 miles I could see the coolant that I just filled up was all gone. I could hear some bubbling sound, all of the coolant had burnt away and was steaming. I did some research and it could be a blown head gasket, but I'm not sure and was seeking how to fix it or to clarify if it was a head gasket.

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Bubbling In Coolant Overflow?

Why my coolant overflow tank would be bubbling away whilst the engine is hot? No signs of overheating, not done a compression test yet though.

When the engine is cold, the level in the coolant reservoir is higher than it should be and the radiator was low.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2000 - Loosing Coolant - Loss Of Water?

My mate has bought a mk4 golf and it is loosing coolant. There is no obvious signs of a water leak the car starts fine, goes up to temperature fine, only time the temperature rises is when the car has to work harder. (going up hill) then returns to normal.

Left the car today for a couple of hours and went to check the coolant level and the system was still under pressure when opening the expansion bottle top. There is signs of rusty water around the cars panels where the expansion tank is located. Previous owner said that it used 4 litres of water on a 330 mile round trip. previous owner said it could be the head gasket but there is no cream on oil filler cap.

There is no sign of water leaking from the heater matrix inside the car.

Passat (B7) :: Loosing Coolant But No Visible Leak?

I started loosing a bunch of coolant on my tdi which is still under 36k and there is no visible leaks anywhere

Took the car to the dealer last night to get it checked out and they were ready to send me back home telling me there is no issue since they don't see any leaks under the car

Either way after telling them that I have already gone through 2 gallons of coolant they decided to top off the coolant and ask me to drive 200 miles.

I drove 156 miles last night since I need to get this issue resolved and now the coolant tank is empty again... sitting at the dealer while I'm typing this.

Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 2000 - Muddy Coolant - Overflow Tank - Way To Clean?

Anyway here's the problem. My son has a 2000 Ranger 3.0L V6 he left me when he had to move back up to Las Vegas. I was out checking it out today and pulled the radiator cap, man what a mess. It looks like reddish mud in there and the overflow tank. It's not milky like oil in there it's more like mud. It's caked up on the bottom of the cap and inside the filler neck and the coolant looks the same.

So the questions are, what's the best way to clean it all out and what would cause it?

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Radiator Is Dumping Coolant Into Reservoir But Not Overheating

My 2000 Accent with 164,000km is not overheating but is dumping coolant into the reservoir so that the radiator is about a quart low. I did have a few problems with it overheating in the past month, but that was solved by thermostat removal (always above 80F here). I stopped before the overheats reached the redline and allowed the engine to cool before continuing, no known adverse performance during the overheats. No water in oil.

Failed troubleshooting:

Drained and replaced coolant x3
New radiator cap
* No thermostat.

Dodge - Neon :: 2000 - Overheating / Car Won't Take Coolant Out Of Reservoir Tank

I have a 2000 Dodge Neon with a 2001 Neon motor in it. I have just recently had problems with the car overheating. So we started diagnosing it and replaced parts that we thought were wrong. We replaced the water pump, thermostat, radiator cap, and timing belt. The problem that I am having is that the car won't take coolant out of the reservoir tank. I have bled the air out of the cooling system and it still didn't fix the problem.

Passat (B5) :: Coolant Boiling - Oil In Reservoir

Long story short, I got a 2001.5 1.8t M5 Passat with 63k miles 2 weeks ago.

This weekend I was driving around and pulled into the driveway and noticed the coolant was boiling in the coolant reservoir. It also looked like there was some oil in the reservoir. Take it to the shop, turns out that the plastic impeller on the water pump broke at 64k miles. This is wierd because the car never actually overheated. The mechanic doesn't think that the head gasket is blown or i have a cracked/warped head because the car still runs fine. He suggests I replace the water pump, timing belt, coolant reservoir, thermostat and obviously flush the coolant. I go ahead with the repair since its almost time for the TB anyway.

After bending over and taking it from the shop on a timing belt and water pump repair, I think I am all good. Today I open everything up after a few days of driving around just to check up on stuff. I open the coolant reservoir and there is telltale signs of oil in the coolant. Now i think this was an issue before the water pump went. Searching the archives I see that the oil cooler is a common failure. This could have also contributed to the failure of the water pump and maybe the thermostat, I don't know.

So instead of bending over for the mechanic for a second time in a week , I think I'm going to replace the oil cooler and flush the coolant system again and change the oil myself. Poked around looking at the oil cooler and it seems as if there is the slightest sign of an oil leak on the outside, which could mean there is a leak inside. I don't have compressed air so I'm not sure how I can test the oil cooler for leaks.

I am thinking i need:

-Oil cooler (some suggest S4, some suggest TDI one?)
-Oil cooler gasket
-Feed and return lines
-Hose clamps
-g12 coolant
-Oil filter
-Synthetic oil

Should I replace the upper and lower radiator hoses while I've got the coolant out? What else should I replace while the coolant is out. I see people suggest flushing the system several times. Should i use G12 everytime or can I just use water to flush until its clean and fill with G12?

Phaeton :: Wiper Fluid Reservoir Overflow Or Broken?

I was filling my wiper fluid reservoir and could not fill it to the top. After going throiugh a full bottle of fluid, I noticed it was spilling from underneath the car. I assumed it was an overflow, but later realized that this would make no sense as windshield fluid doesn't freeze, at least not for most of the world, and needs nowhere to expand to.

Now I have to start pulling pieces off the car to see if the tank is broken. I'm guessing I'll need a service manual to find the best way to get to it. If it is broken, how the heck would it have happened? I've only had the car for a few months, so I don't know its history. No accidents though.

300m - Leaks - Radiators :: 2000 - Coolant Boiling In Reservoir Tank

2000 Chrysler 300M with 142K miles. Was a very reliable car until recently.

Problem began with boiling coolant in the reservoir tank. Then began to lose coolant at a high rate. I tried stop leak products and replaced the coolant frequently for a couple months. Some of it kind of worked, but the problem always returned. The car drives fine for about 10 highway miles then begins to steam out from under the hood on the passenger side. It gets about half way up the temp gauge, but does not really overheat. I usually stop when it steams out, let it cool, replace the antifreeze, then do it all over again. I've also tried a bunch of other things too, e.g., radiator flush. None of it worked.

The mechanic wants to replace the radiator. Says the system does not have pressure so there's no real way to determine if there are leaks in the engine. But he does know that the radiator is no good. I'm okay to replace radiator, but don't want to do it just to find out ten minutes later that I have a blown head gasket, which I would opt not to fix. I have read the tell tale signs of a blown head gasket, such as coolant in the oil, but there is none. My exhaust is white, but it's 5 degrees outside and it doesn't look whiter. I have seen some coolant on the ground at times.

I took the car to the shop and the Cooling system was pressure tested no leaks no problem then after a week I found that after a 20 minutes drive I pull into a parking lot and coolant was dripping from the reservoir my a/c fan works and the fan clutch spins slow and I'm able to stop it with my hand. I just replaced the clutch fan last but the problem still present.

Thermostats :: Buick Lesabre - Overflow Reservoir Cap / Air, Antifreeze Got Displaced

My Buick's 03 lesabre overflow reservoir cap is screwed on and has a gasket in it so it cant possibly leak air. I'm still wondering how does air or antifreeze get displaced in a overflow reservoir container that has no outlet to breath unless its forced through only one hose at the bottom in- and there is always a little pressure in the container to push the antifreeze back into the radiator when it cools off at the radiator metal cap?
