I changed the bulb in my driver side brake light - routine -done a zillion bulb changes on my car. This time however the dashboard lights up every time I brake!! What gives? Something to do with the brake pedal triggering the brake light button in the footwell area under the dash? Its a 2000 Passat 1.8T sedan - manual tranny.

View 2 RepliesI checked the fuses and everything and searched the archived boards but no luck on this topic. I'm almost certain then that the bulb(s) for the dashboard are out. Is there any way I can circumvent going to the dealer to get them replaced? Also, if it's not the fuses or the bulbs, are there any other factors that could be causing this problem?
View 2 RepliesMy B5 has all three brake lights coming on (including top highline brake light in estate model) when the headlights are turned on. When the brake is pressed, they all stay on and glow a bit brighter.. Is this normal?
When the headlights are not turned on, the brakes work ok with all three rear red lights only coming on when the brake pedal is pressed.
I noticed on the way home the "ready" light was on the whole time. I've never noticed it staying on before but maybe just didn't pay attention to it. Is it supposed to be on continuously? What exactly is it for?

1) C1200
2) C2308
Here are the vitals: Passat, 2000, 1.8T, 39.000miles.
Here is the problem: Brake light will come on, flashing. ABS light on, fix. After 30/45 sec the brake light and the ABS light will turn off.( I do get the "STOP" message) The ASR/EDL warning light will remain on until I turn the engine off.
Next time I turn the car on, and after what appear to be a "drive circle" the "phenomena" repeats it self.
So I just bought a 2000 Passat v6. It's not my first VW so I do know a few things but here is my problem.
The abs light is on and the brake light is flashing and in the little display in the middle, it says brake fault stop see owners manual.
Was I told it's a abs sensor?
I have a 2000 Passat w V6 thats in the shop at the dealers. The ABS/Brake light in the dash is coming on. The dealer says I need a new sensor in the ABS module. This sensor cost $700 plus about $400 in labor. Seems very pricey to me. My question is, could I buy a used ABS module and replace the bad one with the bad sensor myself? Where could I get a used or new ABS module at a good price? Is it hard to change out?
View 6 RepliesBrake warning light came on. Diagnosed as bad abs module. Mechanic replaced twice. One shell sensor continues to read not turning while it is turning. Mechanic has check continuity, it's fine. Seems to have a short. He cannot find where it is and next step is ripping out much interior to track tiny wire. Will not pass state inspection with brake warning light on.
View 6 RepliesStarted having problems with my Chevy Malibu (1999, with 95,000 miles on it) while driving two times this week. Both times an alert warning flashed on my dashboard. The first time, flashed the brake check and ABS warning on the left side of the dashboard, and the second time the check oil and check battery warning on the right side. In both cases, after the warnings flashed, the car was still running, but stepping on the gas pedal resulted in no acceleration, but brakes still worked. The steering wheel also locks-up to the point where I can't turn any more. Both times, I stopped and shut off the engine, waited about 30 seconds and restarted, after which everything is fine and normal. The brake pads were changed recently, but not the rotors which may not be in very good shape.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2000 Silverado 1500 4X4 extended cab with short box with a 5.3L. A couple weeks ago I noticed that my brake lights were staying on all the time. I removed the fuses for the trailer left and right lights and the brake lights went out. due to the holidays I haven't had time to find out why the lights were staying on.
Today I noticed that my 3rd brake light was staying on all the time, even with the truck off, and no one in the truck, and my electric brake controller inside the cab was on. I unplugged the controller from the fuse panel and the controller light went out but the 3rd brake light was still on. I couldn't find a fuse, so I removed the bulbs. Where I would start to find the problem.
The brake light on my 08 F150's dash comes on and off whenever it feels like it. Have had the brakes inspected and they are good and the e-brake switch is okay. Is there a fluid level switch in the master cylinder? The level is okay but maybe this switch could have a bad attitude?

View 8 RepliesThe lights that light up the A/C controls in my '03 Accent went out. I checked all the fuses in the engine bay and inside the car and they were all fine. Since only the lights relating to the A/C controls are out, is it just a bulb? if so, how do I change the bulb? I began to take off the dashboard cover, but I didn't see any bulbs.
View 14 RepliesI have an Accent 2003 - 2 door hatchback and for a while the light stays on, on my dash that the trunk is open.. I checked the lock, and the switch, and they are all ok.
Funny thing is, when I press the brake pedal, then the light turns of. Thought I would just deal with it, but it's driving me insane, looking at that light. I had to remove the light bulb from my trunk, since it is staying on all the time, and it had drained the battery.
I found through google some wiring schematics, but doesn't look like it's 100% correct.. Are there any available for my car, or even better, what it could be? (Faulty wire?)
Just recently, my Brake light started coming on, on my dashboard for several seconds or more then going back out. I checked the fluid and it was fine. The next time the brake light came on, I noticed that the needles for Both my Speedometer and RPM gages dropped to zero for as long as the Brake light was illuminated. Once the brake light went off, the needles once again showed my speed and RPM (were functional). This occurs while I'm simply driving down the road.
View 30 RepliesI have a 2011 Legacy Sedan with 40K miles. Three weeks ago, I drove the car 25 miles in 90+degree heat on the highway. I parked at a store, did not use the electronic parking brake and when I returned to the car 5 minutes later and started it, the dashboard BRAKE light was flashing. The brake was not engaged. I tried to engage and release it, but it would not engage, when I pushed the button the car 'chirped'. I drove the car home and garaged it. The next morning (after a cooler evening) the light no longer flashed. At that time I was able to engage and release the electronic parking brake and it worked as designed.
A similar sequence has occurred on four different occasions. When I start a cool car, no light. When I start the car after it's been run for a while, I'm getting the flashing light.
I've checked the brake fluid and it's fine. I've checked the OBD and it shows no codes.
I have a 2009 Camry LE. My right rear brake light blew out, but no warning light seems to pop up on the dashboard. I only realized the brake light went out when someone pointed it out to me. How can you tell that the brake light blew out? (I checked the manual but didn't find anything)...
View 4 RepliesWhenever I start my 2011 Sonata Turbo after it has been resting overnight, the brake warning light comes on and stays on. It's not immediate?it usually takes five to ten seconds, and whether the emergency brake was on when I started has no effect. Once it goes on, it cannot be shut off without shutting off the car and restarting?at which time it acts normally for the rest of the day. The braking system is fine.
