Issue: door ajar light stays on, power locks on driver and passenger door don't work, radio stays on after truck is off an door is opened.
Events leading up to issue: went to temporarily hook up a wolo dixie horn to see if it worked. Wanted to do it fast so I took + cable, tied one end to the battery terminal and then connected other end to dixie horn relay. I then grounded both negative wires to the truck. One ground on the frame the other I temporarily wrapped around a one of factory ground mounts under the dash. Immediately after doing this the problems stated above started.
How can I fix this. I need to fix this by tomorrow. I have a guy from Craigslist coming to look at the truck. Now the 4x4 issue.
Truck has zf6 manual and the electric 4wd select ****. Just thought I'd list this if it was needed to be known for solutions.
4x4 high light stays on in while 2wd all the time. 4 low will stay on after switching back to 4 high and 2wd but it goes out if I ether stop the truck shut it off then restart it. or back up and slam on the brakes. Also when in 4 high the front driveshaft won't spin. However It will spin when in 4 low.
Another random issue I'd thought I'd just list while I'm writing this.... Cruise control does not work. And when I press the "on" button and the "coast" button at the same time the horn honks.
Just starting with 99 passat picked up from the junkyard. The car now running well and need to fix other things.
The most obnoxious fault is that nothing electrical is working on the passenger FRONT door. locks, mirror, window...all dead even if controlled from the driver's side.
My '99 Passat 1.8T has an intermittent problem with the electric door locks. The rear passenger lock sometimes doesn't lock, but I can always get it working by unlocking it with the remote and relocking it.
The driver door lock is now really the problem. It mostly doesn't work - in fact, not at all over the last week or so. What is the most likely cause? How much trouble is it to take apart the entire door to get to it? I have had the door panel off which isn't too bad, but the rest of it looks tough.
I'm having some problems with the power windows and locks. The passenger side window only works when it wants to. The power lock on the same door will not lock unless I push it down. And the lights that are on the switches don't work.
View 4 RepliesI have search youtube and only found front door lock replacement but not the rear..
How do you go about removing the bad rear passenger side door lock actuator ??
My 1999 Passat has the common "power window goes up, but won't go down" problem in the right rear door. I followed the advice in this forum and re-inserted the plastic pin. A few weeks later it popped out. I re-inserted it again this time with some glue. It held for a few months before popping out again. I bought a new pin from the dealer but the new pin fits so tight it is impossible to insert it into the hole at the base of the window. Maybe I don't have enough experience jamming things into tight holes, but I suspect there is a special trick needed to insert the pin. I can see why the old pin kept popping out since it wasn't tight enough to keep it secure. How to Insert brand new Plastic Pin in Regulator?
View 6 RepliesI brought a 99 Passat V6 with 46k miles and the car is now having problems with the driverside power door lock. I hit the remote to unlock the car but the door wont open. After several attempt, im able to open the door.
View 4 RepliesMy newly purchased 1999 b5 passat wont lock/unlock with the key. The key does nothing and i dont have the flip key, i want to get a new flip key from the dealer but i am unsure if they can code it to my car if the lock dosent work i took the door panel off but didnt want to take off the inner metal skin to figure it out.
View 9 RepliesSo I am replacing all the pull handles, switches and basically anything that has that soft tuch crap peeling. I did the driver side fine. When I go over to the passenger side, I popped off that little side piece, but when i go to use the torx driver, one has a nut. How the hell do I get a socket down there??
View 3 RepliesThe outside door handle on the front passenger door has stopped working. You can pull it out but it won't open the door. You can still open the door from the inside.
View 3 Repliesi need to get my door panel off to try to pop out a dent.. are there any write ups on removing the panel..
View 1 RepliesWell it looks like the passenger side door sensor is dead since the MFD shows the door wide open.
Where the actual sensor is since I don't really see anything around the door.
When you pull the handle on the door it doesn't latch on to anything to open the door, whats wrong?
View 6 RepliesMy 2013 Passat has some issues with the door locks. I'm at 92k kms now and no longer under full warranty. In June 2015, I had the locks fixed with the local VW dealer, while under warranty - 2 doors were failing to lock/unlock using the remote and would regularly attempt to lock while driving (could hear the motors in each door and lock light wouldn't light up as usual).
I no longer drive the vehicle regularly, it's essentially my gf's car now. She mentioned a couple weeks ago that the rear passenger side door wasn't locking, though the lock alarm still beeps. No motor sound this time. And again, while driving it constantly tries to lock the doors around 10-20kph (no light on locks shows up confirming locked).
So essentially it's been just over a year since the issue was fixed. According to the dealer it's an electronic issue and costs that much because the locking component in each door has to be replaced. Doesn't make sense to me if its electronic...
I haven't spoken to VW myself yet but it all sounds off to me. I'm a diesel mechanic and don't know a whole lot about the electrical side but why would I have the same issue in back to back years on something like door locks?
Also sounds like the heated mirrors might not be working. Is it a failed actuator on the driver side maybe?
On my passat, the right passenger door handle does not work from the inside. I recently had the window replaced on that door because window slipped.. But since i got the window fixed, the handle inside does not work properly. It opens the door, but you really have pull and push the door open. I only found one screw at the bottom of the panel inside to take it off, but the rest of the panel feels pretty tight, and i dont want to break anything either.
View 4 RepliesMy wife's 2012 VR6 developed an annoying buzzy rattle that, I believe, emanates somewhere from the front passenger side - either from around the glove compartment area closet to the firewall/A-pillar, or the door itself.
I took everything out and still cannot figure out where it's coming from; thought it was the puddle light being loose (and btw they are loose) - but that was not the source of the sound. Best I can describe it as a cross between pebbles in a tin can and small buzzer; and it happens only on rough roads.
Notices such a noise from the rear passenger side door (same side as the fuel cap. Also experienced this same window 'malfunction'. Lowered it partially and then auto-rolled it up. Instead of auto-rolling up to a close, it rolled all the way up and then all the way down where is stopped.
View 4 RepliesRecently I noticed that the interior trimming (or whatever it's called, I'm unsure of the correct term) on the passenger side door seems to be not in the right place. Almost like it's snapped out of place. I tried pushing it back but it doesn't wanna stay.
Here's an imgur album with some pictures: [URL] .....
The wizards that painted the entire passenger side of my 2003 Passat have left me with a rear door that takes a few handle pumps to open, particularly when it has been a few minutes between tries. What is the cause of this? Is this a hinge issue or something else?
View 1 RepliesI recently bought a used 2013 passat and one day noticed that my front passenger door wouldn't unlock with the remote. All other doors unlocked, but not that one. I opened it from the inside and it unlocked, but then it wouldn't lock with the remote or the lock button. I tried the usual troubleshooting techniques (repeating the steps over and over, giving puzzled glances, long stares) but those didn't work. I did notice that on the edge of the door, next to the lock mechanism, was a small rectangular hole the same size/shape as my key. I was pretty awesome at the shapes game growing up, so I immediately jumped at putting the object in the hole of matching shape. Sure enough, the key went in. I was able to turn it and when I did, the door started locking and unlocking normally.
I went through the manual (contrary to the stereotypes about men) but couldn't find this particular "feature" or why my car would have it or need it.
