Passat (B5) :: 1999 - Front Motor Mount Missing - Crank But Won't Turn Over?
Jan 8, 2012
My 99 Passat 1.8t broke down on me last night... my front motor mount is missing and my motor snaps back from time to time but last night i think it went back all more than normal and as soon as it snapped back the motor cut off and won't turn over... it will crank and crank but not turn over. i looked for any loose wires or anything possible that could be out of place and couldn't really see anything out of the ordinary... There are 3 sensors right next to the power steering reservoir that aren't connected but don't look like they were connected, need to identify those sensors.

I have a 2007 Passat 2.0t Sedan. My wife broke the front engine mount this morning and now it will crank, but will not start. Put my code reader on it and it is throwing camshaft position sensor, misfire cyl. 4, fuel rail pressure low, and Mass Air Flow sensor codes. It looks like the insert of the mount is wedged against the belt. Would the engine mount being broken cause any of these codes for some reason? and would the mount against the belt cause it to not start?

The passenger-side motor mount on my '99 1.8t has blown (again). I'm on my second mount already and want to make sure I address all other possible causes before I go through another one. Looking for keeping this new mount intact a bit longer? (BTW the original mount lasted approx. 120k miles and the replacement has "only" lasted 85k miles)...

I can't get my front (passenger side) motor mount out because it's under the refrigerant line. How would I do that? There is a black, coiled "jacket" that goes around the line right before it enters the back of the radiator, can I detach it there? The line snakes all over the engine compartment and appears to be bolted onto the radiator on one end and the other end goes through a clamp and into the dash area. [URL]....................

The front motor mounts are bad. This has been confirmed. When I am cruising at a constant 45 or 55 mph and choose to accelerate because traffic is clearing, etc. the car will thump a bit and only slowly creep faster. It feels as if there is very little response other than the mild thumping. Getting to 65 mph takes time. The car has 70k miles and performs almost flawlessly at slower speeds. Is the thumping/lack of acceleration a symptom of the bad front motor mounts?

My passenger-side motor mount is cracked out. Is this a common failure? The aluminum part that connects the "frame" to the engine mount is cracked, the hydraulic rubber mount looks almost new, not sure how the previous owner missed the crack in the aluminum. Car has 140K miles on it. I'm thinking about just having it welded up.

My 2006 AWD LTD 500 has about 52000 miles on it; a slight rattle/clunking noise is intermittently heard on driver's side in engine compartment. Took it in to dealer who says motor mount is cracked and front stabilizer bar joints are worn and both need replacing. Car has only been driven on highways or for short trips (3-4 miles) and has had no impacts nor been driven over rough roads or run over any potholes or such. Should the motor mount be damaged? At 52K miles?? Never heard of such a thing. Ditto, the stabilizer bar joints: worn out in under 60K miles? What can I do about this? Who seek relief from? Ford warranty is, of course, over, and supplemental warrenty will only cover motor mount replacement but not stab bar. Are these parts routinely wearing out at such an early date that repair shops can reap the rewards???

I have a 1998 Passat v6 triptronic I recently had a lot of work done on the car including a new throttle body I have noticed since I got it back from the mechanic after a short drive it starts to miss and you can actually feel the motor shaking around through the drivers seat, I had a couple of passengers in my car (back seat) and they could feel it too, seems to be fine when I first start to drive it but after around 5 minutes it starts shaking, I also noticed today when I got home I opened the bonnet and the motor seemed hot as did all of the parts around the motor including the water in the top up tank. friends keep telling me it could be my spark plug leads but I am more inclined to think it may be a coil, when I check the temperature gauge it is on half way and this seems to be normal for my car so it's not showing that the motor is getting hot.

Have 2003 Honda Element. Beginning about 8 months ago I only drive it on weekends. I turn key, motor would crank, then die, crank then die. Maybe 5 times, then I would turn key and car would start without any problem. Went to dealership and they checked ignition system out found nothing wrong. Told me when you don't start everyday this sort of thing happens. Sounded like BS to me. Recommended I start it and drive a few miles every day. I began doing this did and starting much better. Now, occasionally, I will still have the same problem. Today I went to get Chinese takeout and I turned key and engine cranked weakly and then nothing. like no engine in car. Tried to start repeatedly and no response. Then I turned key again and engine started like new car.

I had my ST coilovers installed a while back. I love the ride, but a really annoying squeaking/groaning sound developed several weeks ago from the front strut mount area. The noise is heard at low speeds as I roll down the road (most likely high speeds, too) and sounds like its coming from both sides of the upper strut mount area. If you lift up/push down on the car, you can also hear the sound.
I purchased a set of 034 Density upper strut mounts from AMI Motorsports in hopes of eliminating the sound, but the sound got worse!! I still do not have a resolution. At this point, I'm thinking about putting the stock strut mounts back in, as the sound wasn't near as bad with the OE mounts in place.
I've lubricated the sway bar bushings and installed shorter end links (thinking the sound may be sway bar related), but the noise is still there. I even disconnected the end links all together - sound is still there. Could this be faulty coilovers? I tried to file a warranty claim through ST - they don't think their strut is faulty, and even if they did, I'm having a hard time with warranty coverage (long story). If it's the struts, then why did the sound get worse when the new 034 Density upper strut mounts were installed? Could it be faulty mounts?
At this point, I think it's either the mount or the strut, as I did not experience any issues prior to the coilovers.

My feed truck (2001 ext cab 4x4 7.3 198k) had a cold starting issue I fixed with new gp relay. Now I noticed when it gets down below 30 degrees it has a cylinder miss until motor warms up. I don't doubt injectors are in my future. I was wondering though if that is common for worn injectors or if maybe something else has gone haywire and how long can I run it like that before something else tears up? after about 7-10 min the miss goes away and I don't notice it. I would like to get through the winter before messing with it or having injectors put in it...

I have looked through a ton of threads to see if I can find one similar to my problem but have not. I have stock setup but had a dealer installed anti-theft device. The first time it would not crank, it was like the the anti-theft plug was missing so I checked out the key, tried the spare and finally removed it all together. I checked all the fuses and swapped the Starter relay for another of the same part number.
I later sifted it into neutral assuming it was the P/N Switch and it started. This continued intermittent for several days but then Neutral wouldn't work. I got under the truck and pushed on the actuator rod for the transmission and it started again for a few days. If finally failed again and I had time to buy a replacement switch.
Once installed I verified I had back up lights in reverse but still no crank. I have since pulled off the starter and had it verified as good. Is there more to setting/adjusting the neutral switch or is there something I am missing before I tow it in?

Cleaned the engine and determined the location of this oil leak. I am posting two pics. The far away shot shows the leak in the center of the picture...near the motor mount. The close up pic u can see the leak coming from a vertical seam just Below where the half shaft enters the transaxle. It is definitely motor oil, not transmission oil.

The vehicle in question is a 96 Buick Century. I don't use it a whole lot, but occasionally lend it out or use for some undesirable task. Anyway, I have to get it to pass inspection.

The driver side front body mount bushing on my 2014 is gone which has the grill sitting on the bumper. I started to replace it, but the bolt is sized to the nut. ran off about 1/2 inch and that is it, it will not tighten or loosen anymore.
I cut the head off the bolt, but can not get the body high enough to remove the old bushing so i can cut the nut off flush with the rad support. Now I am trying to get the air filter box out so i can cut the top of the "nut cage" off to remove the bolt and nut out the top. but i can not figure out how it is held in.
I have the intake disconnected and the filter hat off, overflow tank hose disconnected, and two bolts holding the whole thing to the fender out, but it will still not budge. What am I missing here?

The other day when i wanted to start the car, I found out my battery was death so i decided to ask my buddy to push me and crank it on gear. Car shakes as normal and engine started, but then i heard a weird noise like if something was rubbing. I turned it off and popped the hood. I found my engine leaning forward and toward the passenger side.
So the next morning, I checked the bay again and i found out that it wasn't the motor mount. Motor mount is ok, but then i found a broken bolt that holds the bracket to the block; the one that goes right next to the water pump to be more specific. Also in the back of the block there is a bolt that hold bracket to the block again and the thread whole was enough weak to break when the other bolt failed. So I did some research and i found that there is a solution for the bolt in back of the block.
What I am concerned is for the on the goes right next to the water pump. It seems that it broke the whole thing including the part where the bolt threads go. I just had a shop install I.E connecting rods, new piston rings, and rebuilt the heads. They put a new timing belt kit and all its job required. I think they might have a bit of fault on this since it had to be removed when they did the timing belt kit. Anyways I don't want to think my block will be a junk now because engine is running like a champ, and that would be a bummer.
-Bolt that is broken in two pieces.-
-And where it is attached to the block-
-Part of the engine where this all goes.-

I have noticed oil spots under my 06 lately and finally got under it to see where it's coming from. It's collecting and dripping from the bottom motor mount but it's hard to determine exactly where it's coming from. I can't tell if it's coming from higher up or down low and running back and up from the wind. I just cleaned it with degreaser and have it running to hopefully dry it and be able to see where it's coming from.
