I have a 99 passat that the oil light will flash and the tach is inop then out of the the blue it stars working. was wondering if any 1 has had this issue. I checked the wiring didn't find no bad wires and i tried another cluster same thing.
View 1 RepliesSo my girlfriends passat is starting to have some problems. It looks like a light show on the dash. When driving it, every now and then (a lot more now) the tach goes dead, and the oil and brake light flash, and it starts beeping. The car also has a ABS light on but that has been on for a long time.
So far I've checked both the oil and brake fluid levels, and checked all the fuses. Everything is good there. It just seems funny that they all go at once. I figure maybe one of the plugs to the cluster is loose giving everything a zero reading? I need to buy a vag cable and software some time that's for sure.
So I have a 1.8 5spd wagon which flooded out the comfort control module. I got another CCM but I still have a flashing oil pressure light. a flashing brake warning, a solid ABS light and an airbag light. The tach doesn't work and the MFD only occasionally works. Before I replace the ABS module I would like to eliminate anything else that might be in common with all these systems, is there a hidden fuse anywhere or a relay?
I tried unplugging the ABS module and it didn't change anything, do I need to code the CCM it has the same numbers on it but even after replacement the power windows still don't work even though the door locks, mirrors, and dome light on all but the drivers door ( I assume the micro switch is bad)work now, also the car starts.
When I press on the brakes the brake lights up in the cluster?
View 3 RepliesI have been to the dealer 3 times so far because of something to do with the lighting system. The MFD says "AFS Inoperative" and the indicator light flashes for bulb failure or malfunction in the adaptive front lights system.
The dealer has replaced a bulb and power module thus far, but it hasn't fixed the malfunction. The indicator light and warning comes on 4 out of 5 times I drive the car and usually within the first few minutes of driving. It occurs with our without the lights on.
The lights do work at all times, but I don't think the adaptive steering/lighting is working when the error occurs.
I got a 99 1.8t. Here's the deal, misfiring at idle, flashes battery light. alt and battery was checked and there great. it has a maf code, so I unplug the maf and still get the same misfiring. maf was fine be4 i tried cleaning it, now it throws the code. it had misfiring be4 i clean it also. next problem is it stutters and misses if i go wot in 4 or 5 gear and the batt light flashes it doesn't throw a misfire code. Also if I am idling and i floor it, it stutters and misses at lower rpm rage and then is fine at higher rpm range. i replaced plugs and gapped em right, i did a power balance test and the coils all are firing so is the injectors. I don't got vag but i do got a good obd2 scanner i was looking at the data wen car was off and i seen that if i floor it the tps only reads 77.7% . Also my timing says its 12 degrees and idle fuel pressure is fine i checked with a gauge. Pretty much misfiring with no codes thrown and flashing battery light.

View 4 RepliesHaving issues with the gauges in my truck. Usually only in the mornings, the tach will quit working and the speedo will go to 70 or 80 (this morning 100), the check gauges light comes on and the tranny is stuck usually in 3rd (auto). The indicator light for the gearshift (P,R,D,3,2,1) also goes out. I swapped out the fuel injector spider a while back and that's when the problem began.

View 3 RepliesWent out this morning - which was one of the first times we've dropped to freezing since I've had the R32. Car started fine - but idling was rough - almost felt like it was surging. Rev'd it a few times, no change. Meanwhile the tach malfunction light appeared. I turned it off and then restarted. No tach light and it was idling normally.
View 2 RepliesI have a 99 passat, v6, 5 speed , 110k. ABS light was flashing for past 6 months and I decided to have module replaced by another used one. So put everything back together and ABS light is still on (ok, maybe bad used unit too) but I have another problem now, my rpm's are not working and oil light starts flashing too. So I unplugged ABS and my rpm's came back, oil light is not flashing any more. I am little confused now, is there a wiring problem that just happened in a bad time ot these two are related? Car does have a traction control too.
View 10 RepliesI have not been here in a while. Sold my IS250 and picked up a 2004 GX470 for the family. Installed a new double DIN head unit a few months ago and finally got around yesterday to installing the backup camera. Since I had the rear hatch open I decided to replace the rear hatch lock actuator motor as well. Hooked everything up and turned on prior to closing the interior panels and everything worked fine (reverse lights, locks, backup camera, started up fine). So I closed up all the panels and go to start the car and I get nothing but random flashing from the dash once I get ignition to ON. I also get a steady clicking from the fuse area.
Checked the fuses and I also tried to hookup to Techstream to see if any errors, but of course I get nothing (it can't connect to the vehicle). I disconnected the negative for 20 mins or so and tried starting again with the same outcome. So I disconnected the camera wires from the reverse light (thinking maybe the GND wire was shorting somewhere to chassis?) and disconnected the negative battery cable for a while and tried once again... same flashing instrument cluster lights and no luck . Gotta get the wifes vehicle back up and running.
I have a 2007 Santa Fe. I was at a drive thru when my instrument cluster started to go nuts.. all of the lights came on then started flashing.. the RPM gauge was bumping around too.. for a couple seconds.. then it went away.. the next day I was on the way home and it started to do the same thing as the motor began to lose power while climbing a hill then the transmission couldn't figure out which gear it wanted to be in then I could press the gas all the way but nothing would happen.. the battery was completely dead. so I replaced the battery an about a week later it did the same thing. I had the alternator checked out but it was fine..

View 14 RepliesHere's the problem with my 1994 Ford Aerostar 3.0 engine. As many have mentioned here, I'm getting the 5 chimes syndrome, indicating an issue with the airbag system. My specifics are:
The Airbag light does NOT light, even when the key is first turned on. You would think the light might be burned out, but I removed the instrument cluster and tested EVERY bulb. After hooking the instrument cluster back up, the light still wouldn't light, but I still get the 5 beeps.
The horn works (haven't tested the cruise control).
I'm not sure where to begin troubleshooting. I have the basic Chilton manual, but it's not troubleshooting the SRS. I understand the cautions when working on the SRS system, but would like to troubleshoot it myself. Unfortunately, I got laid off, and I can't afford to go to the Ford Shop.

Upon stop and return to idle the dash starts to operate properly until I take my foot off the brake pedal and start to accelerate. Tried searching and didn't find anything. View 6 RepliesWell today the tach was not working at all and the check gauge, check engine and glow plug lights are staying on. Truck runs and starts great, everything else seems to work except the trans temp gauge. Did a search for the GEM and could not find anything that indicates the GEM controls the tach and warning lights.

This morning I started up the car and immediately the car has a coolant light on in the top row of the MFD (thermometer in a few little waves, I assume coolant.)
Temperatures dropped below -10F last night and were about -4F when the car was started. My thought was a freeze plug, but no AF puddle when I parked the car and the AF level in the overflow tank was where it was the last time I checked. It's cold enough the car never reached the normal operating temp during 20 mins or so of city driving.
Am I correct in assuming this is a coolant level warning? I can't imagine I'd be getting a temperature warning when the block is 0F.
