Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 1998 - Engine Does Not Have Any Power And Starts To Sputter

Have problem with Golf IV 1998 1.6 74KW.

Ignition is troublesome, takes few seconds to start. RPM stays still at 800 idle but when pressing down gas pedal it takes few seconds to accelerate to 2000+. While driving engine starts to sputter under 1500-2000, happens after every gear shift. 2000+ does not sputter much but car still feels very weak.

Everything works fine at the morning or several hours after last ride. Problem starts when car hasn't run in 15min - ~1hour, problem seems to go away only in several hours.

Passat (B5) :: 2000 V6 - Rough Starting And Sputter

Past few mornings, I had a bit of trouble starting my 2002 Passat V6 (60K miles); car would start, and sputter. After a few times of this, the car would eventually turn over, and would be a little rough once I put it in gear for the first few hundred feet or so.

Brought it up to North Penn VW in Colmar, and the service tech said it had to do with the ethanol in fuel settling to the bottom of the tank, and not being potent enough to fire the engine, and normal acceleration would be enough to burn this stuff out of the lines and/or where the gas and ethanol would mix.

Passat (B5) :: CEL Flashed Several Times And Car Started To Sputter

So, I got in my car this morning, it started fine, no CEL, pulled out onto the main road and while while accelerating, it started to sputter and the CEL flashed several times. I turned back into my neighborhood, expecting it to stall, but it didn't. I sat there for a second, it was running fine, but I felt a few slight rumbles while idling, enough to make me nervous, but not enough to prevent me from continuing to work (I'm out of PTO).

So, I continued on, no CEL, accelerated and the sputtering happened again, slowed down, lightly pressed the gas pedal and it was fine. I made it to work. I just got the APR programming on Monday. I ordered the TT225 diverter valve.

Passat (B6) :: Engine Started To Sputter Once Hit 4000 Rpm And CEL Came On

So I was driving home from when my engine started to sputter once it hit 4000 rpm and the CEL came on so I figured it was my plugs and coils, I changed all of those and unplugged my battery to get the CEL to go away, now all of a sudden my computer is crazy, I have a lot of indicators and my gears indicators are all highlighted, when I start the car and put in it gear is shifts really hard, I just don't know what to do!

Passat (B5) :: 2004 - Sputter A Bit In High Boost

I just got my 04 Passat chipped from APTuning 2 days ago and I was wondering if i need to tighten the gap on my spark plugs? Car runs wonderfully but in high boost it seems to sputter a bit, and i was hoping that tightening the gap was going to solve this issue. If i do have to tighten the gap, do i need to do this for each program? I have 4 programs on the chip (stock, 91 octane, 93 octane and 100 octane). I am sure that i'm going to keep it to 91 octane for 99% of the time.

Passat (B6) :: 2006 2.0T - Sputter When Trying To Start It Up In Cold Weather

Cold start issues that my 2006 2.0T Passat is having. A few weeks ago, during a stretch of cold weather (10-20F), my Passat would sputter when I tried starting it up. It would either start and immediately shut off, would attempt to turn over, and generally on the 3rd attempt would turn over and run fine. I was only having this issue in the morning, and it would start fine when I would leave work (9 hour shifts).

I got my battery tested, and it proved to be failing. Replaced it. A few days later cylinder 4 started to misfire. I replaced all spark plugs and coil packs (85k on the car). During this service discovered that my oil had gotten some moisture in it and have off-white residue, flushed oil, replaced with new filter. A few days go by and I get code P2181 (cooling system performance). I cleared this out earlier today and it hasn't come back (50 miles later).

Are things just starting to go at the same time, or might there be another underlying issue? I have plans to flush the tranny and do the timing belt/coolant/water pump in the next month.

Passat (B5) :: 1999 - A/C Works When Cruising But Not When Idling

My 1999 Passat is acting up (yet again!). This time it's the A/C. I've noticed it works fine during normal driving, but if I am stuck in traffic and the engine is idling then it blows warm.

Passat (B6) :: Transmission Dropping Down To 5th Or Sometimes Even 4th At Cruising Speeds

I have a 2010 Passat 2.0T with 42k miles. Since it rolled over 38k on the odometer, I have been having a problem with the tranny dropping down to 5th, sometimes even 4th, while at cruising speeds (80-85 mph...Live in Texas). I notice this mostly on long drives (Ft Worth to San Antonio). The problem usually occurs while in Drive when I punch it to pass. Although, this is not always the case; sometimes it will drop down by simply letting off the accelerator or pushing the brake.

When this happens, I have to manually shift it back into 6th and its a crap shoot if it stays there when I put it back into Drive. This last trip I drove 90% manually because it would not stay in 6th in Drive. After calling the dealer and them telling me that it was probably a cruise problem, I turned off the cruise and drove without it with the same results. I bought this car used with 19k miles; Is the transmission covered under warranty or are there any recalls on this?

Passat (B5) :: 2004 - Power Cut Out When Cruising At About 65 Mph On Highway

So I've owned my 04 Passat for almost 3-4 months now, I have a 1.8T 4Motion w/ 5speed, and love it. It will certainly be nice in the winter time with the snow and cold here in North Dakota.

I was driving on one of the state highways, and was cruising at about 65mph, when the power cut out, and giving gas didn't do anything and I eventually came to a stop. I let the car sit for a minute, tried starting and could tell that the engine was trying to turn over but wouldn't. This has happened before with my jetta, and its always been because of water in the fuel lines during a heavy rain, so I had my roommate come give me some more gas to see if we could just run the water out of the system since it had been raining pretty heavily here lately. Still no joy on getting started, occasionally the engine would turn over, RPM's would get up to about 1100-1200, and then instead of stabilizing at idle, the engine would just cut out again right away.

Got a tow from my insurance company to a local auto service shop who took a look at it and got a code saying the speed sensor wasn't working. They allegedly took it apart last night and fixed the speed sensor, had a loose wire, but it still won't start up. They've narrowed it down to the crankshaft sensor, or the entire ECU module being shot. I'll know by tomorrow if the crankshaft sensor is in fact the case.

If it isn't the crankshaft sensor, then is it definitely an issue with the ECU? Would it be worth to get an ECU pre-chipped(APR seems to be the way to go), and have that installed instead of a stock unit? Is it even possible to get a chip from these guys that comes already chipped, or would I need to get a new ECU first and then get it modded.

Passat (B5) :: 1999 AEB Seems To Sputter Before It Takes Off / Misfire Briefly On Freeway

I have a 99 passat 1.8t AEB. I currently have the APR 91 Octane chip. However, I now have the "new and improved" EO5 turbo, ported polished head, port matched intake and exhaust manifolds, Forge diverter valve, Apr turbo inlet, K&N drop in filter, N75 valve, ECS lightweight crank pulley.

When first getting to full throttle the car seems to sputter b4 it takes off. The other day it registered a misfire briefly on the freeway. I have some Genesis 380cc injectors on the way but there has to be a software upgrade of some kind to run smoother!

Passat (B5) :: Won't Gear Out Properly - Downshift While Stopping - Sputter While Accelerating?

This is what is happening:

1. When you start driving the car it accelerates fine until it gets to second gear where it keeps accelerating, then you feel a jolt, the odometer jumps 1-2 notches, and it switches into third.

2. When stopping it downshifts fine until second gear getting ready to switch into first to come to a complete stop and again it "jolts"

3. (Sometimes happens) When driving ~25 mph or ~40 mph while continuously accelerating you let-off the gas and then reapply, it stops accelerating and kind of "sputters" and can not accelerate anymore, I have to stop put it in Park and then again put it in Drive and only after that it works fine.

I have taken it to the VW Service and the mechanic could not replicate what I said was happening so I drove with him in the car and replicated the first two steps 3 out of 6 times. He told me that they checked the codes and could not find anything malfunctioning. I told him that clearly something was wrong with the transmission and I wanted something to be done. He agreed that he also felt what I was talking about but it was not enough to come to a conclusion to what was wrong. I mentioned that I wanted this to be written down in the service report, because if something happens they will be aware.

The problem now is that the "jolting" and the stalling-out has gotten worse since the visit to the service 1 month ago. What might be happening and what I need them to repair/change on my car. I am planning on making a visit sometime this week. The first two steps happen when the car is cold or when I switch over form Tip-Tronic to automatic. But that is not always the case.

Passat (B5) :: Idle Sputter / RPMs Will Drop Then Will Eventually Stabilize

As listed above I own a 98 Volkswagen Passat. It seems to run just fine for the most part, but if I push on the gas and let off I notice a slight sputter. The RPM's will drop to about 800RPM up to 1000RPM and back down again and it will eventually stabilize and idle fine. My only guess that I have so far that I read on a post somewhere is that the EGR Valve tends to get gunked up and stick. I will try to clean that off.

Passat (B6) :: 2007 - Slight Hissing When Cruising At About 15 Mpg On Uneven Roads

I have a CPO passat and it drives like a dream, except when I'm cruising on city (NYC) streets at about 15 mpg on uneven roads. I'd recently noticed a very slight hissing sound coming from the front end. Ever threw one of those silent but violent hissing farts? Yeah it sounds like that. And I'm not even talking about bumps, just uneven roads like driving over a man hole cover. It's quite annoying and with the summer coming i want to drive with my windows down. I'm going to take it to the dealership, but I'd like to pinpoint the issue to them. oh yeah, it only hisses when the car is hot, so it's quiet right after a cold start.

Passat (B5) :: 2003 Car Would Start To Buck Occasionally While Cruising On Freeway

I've got an 03 Passat with 110,000mi on the 2.8L 30v and 01V. I've had this intermittent problem for a while. Occasionally while cruising on the freeway, the car would start to buck, feeling like the trans was slipping in and out of gear, but rpms would stay constant as far as I remember. Also, the ASR light would come on and flash. The car would continue bucking until I pulled over and shut the car off. When I restart, all is fine again.

The dealer pulled codes and only found a EVAP canister purge valve code. They fixed that and said that should take care of the aformentioned problem. I didn't think the code was related to my problem and sure enough, it wasn't. My car still does it, but now there seems to be more related to this problem.

I was driving the other day on the freeway again, this time with my cruise control on. Everything seemed fine until the accelerator pedal dropped to the floor and the car began to accelerate on its own. I quickly switched off the cruise and braked to slow the car down to my original speed, and then the car continued bucking as it always had, now with the ASR light fully on. Pulled over again to restart, problem gone again. What gives? Went to have codes read again and nothing is found.

Passat (B5) :: Driving On Freeway And Cruising At 75mph When Suddenly Car Shut Off

Okay, So this has happened to me about five times now over the past year or so. I will be driving and my car will literally shut off. yesterday, I was driving on the freeway and was just cruising at 75mph when all of a sudden out of no where my car makes a big jolt and then the rpm's go from around 3k to 0. I have had this in the shop for this problem many times and no one can really seem to figure out what is wrong. when my car shuts off while im driving, the oil light comes on, traction control light comes on, as well as the battery light. What's even more weird about this problem is once the car stops, if i try to start it right away it wont fire up... It will just roll over. But. if I wait for a while the car starts and drives normal with all the lights off. This is not only annoying but very dangerous.

Passat (B6) :: Accelerating Makes AC More Cold Than Cruising On Normal Speed

Its peak summer here and temperatures are around 50c. Recently I am experiencing a strange AC behavior! While driving, AC is blowing very cold air but while stationary air get little less cold and it feels sweaty... Also accelerating car makes AC more cold than cruising on normal speed...

I am wondering what it could be.... I had golf IV and never experienced it even it even parked under 50c summer afternoon.... Two weeks back, they have replaced my AC compressor valve... It could be a fan?

Passat (B5) :: 1998 - Car Won't Crank At All

I have a 98 B5 passat 1.8t and the car wont crank at all.

I drove the car fine all day yesterday and when i got home from school at night and tried to start it nothing happened. The car wont crank at all.

When the key is on everything is fine. my radio works lights work power windows everything.. but when i try to start it nothing happens.

Also when i start my car the battery light will stay on and everything will be low volt in the car but as soon as i rev it up the light goes off and everything works properly. I know this is probably another problem but maybe it might have something to do with this!
