Passat (B5) :: 1998 - Oil Leak From Filter Adapter
Dec 6, 2010
I have a 1998 Passat turbo that suddenly started leaking oil from the oil filter adapter. I think it is a bad gasket. Could this mean my pressure switch is bad? What caused this problem?

I noticed a drip on the remote oil filter adapter connecting block, it was appearing from the seam between the block with the supply and return lines to the oil filter and the engine adapter. I purchased a gasket set and replaced the two O rings, the old ones were hard and flat. The new ones are soft and round, I thought that would stop the seep, but there was no change. So after removing a few more times and cleaning, even substituting a slightly different size O ring with no change in the drip. The two aluminum blocks are held together by a 13 mm bolt. It is a 1992 S-10 Blazer 4WD 4.3L. None of the crimps are leaking.

Ok where to start. I have a 98 ford explorer with a 4.0l OHV engine close to 280,000km. There is a leak coming from somewhere around the oil filter but there seems to be oil coming from more then one spot. Second issue is when a idle the voltage seems to die a bit until I hit the gas and it returns to normal but this issue seems intermediate at times. And I have just replaced the oil filter for the second time no second gasket.
Also I am having a tranny shift flare problem from second to third and when it is under alot of pressure in the bush going up hills it just kicks out of gear and roles back. And another issue is seems like maybe my power steering pump may be bad when I am idiling it seems to pulsate and when I change the position of the steering wheel the pulasting will go away or not be as bad.

I had a leak at the flange several months ago. I fixed it with the diesel o rings kit. I made a trip from TX to AL with no leaking and drive it daily without leaks. But, 2 weeks ago noticed a small dribble of a leak from the same spot again - not enough to leave a mark on the pavement but any leaking drives me nuts. I applied some RTV. It worked for the 2 weeks.
Today, noticing another dribble of a leak coming through the RTV down the pan. I'm thinking the flange is bent and not keeping that o-ring sealed against the pan. I'm going to try to apply some additional RTV at the leak spot. If this doesn't work? Is that Strictly Diesel adapter really worth that kind of dough? Is pushing the OEM adapter into the pan really acceptable? Any other options?

Well yesterday i installed the Neuspeed Intake and had no trouble what so ever until 30 min ago when i pull out of the parking lot abit harsh but nothing extreme no wheel spining or anything like that just a bit quicker exit.
That's when my check engine lit up and i pulled over and checked what was going on and heard a air leak, which is located to the left of the intake filter.

I have a 1.8t and my coolant is leaking pretty fast. From what I can see it is coming from the oil filter area. I hope it is just an oil cooler O ring. What else it could be?

I have an RCD-510 (touchscreen with no Nav) in my 2010 wagon. I have the AUX in the center counsel but want to add the iPhone adapter in the glove box. I'm having issues with VW by me. They cannot figure out what I need. They took it apart once and said there was no hook for the iPod cable. Also, I talked with VW headquarters and they said they wouldn't recommend trying to do it as I'd need new wire harnessing and a new "panel.". I was very confused by the panel comment. What is the part number I would need them to order?

I have been trying to fix a coolant leak at the rear of engine (1998 1.8T AEB); the flange (2x 10mm hex bolts) of the black metal pipe that runs from the back of then engine on top to the front.
Tried adding silicone RTV, leak. Cleaned and tried black RTV, leak; and now O ring is cut.
The pipe has about 32.5mm (= ca. size of O ring ID)
The hole/flange has about 37.5mm (= ca. size of O ring OD)
I need to find a new O ring. Looking for
- the correct dimensions?
- Official name?
- Part number?
- Source?

This is the second time that I have notice the car leaking just below the oil filter. The leak does not occur immediately after the oil change, rather after several thousand miles. This is the second time in a row this has occurred. Can the filter loosen to allow small leak? Could the mount be warped? Did not think anything of this first time it happened but strange after the second. It is not a lot of oil, just a drop or two overnight.

I was changing the ATF fluid for the first time and noticed a film of oil on the backside of the engine right above the oil filter. It appears to be from a sensor, but, not sure what it is.

98 F150 4.6L 4WD...
Attempted to replace fuel filter tonight. The connector on the fuel tank side of the filter came off just like it is supposed to. The engine side, however, will not come lose at all. I can wiggle to back and forth, but I can't seem to get the tool to compress the springs.
The engine side connector seems to be smaller than the tank side. I've done this once before on a '98 Ranger, but didn't notice a difference in connectors.

Today I was checking up on the engine and noticed a weird "sucking" noise coming next to the air filter box.
I've researched a bit and it seems like I might have a vacuum leak? I have attached a video on the noise, I recorded on the phone so you might need to turn up the volume a bit higher to hear the noise (vertical recording, the noise starts at about 38 secs)...

I have a 2010 elantra with 60000k that I always had the required maintenence done on it. 3 weeks ago I took it in for an oil change. I just biticed a few oil spots in ground on passenger side and checked my oil level. When I pulled out the dipstick the re was dirt on it or something. its never been like that before. What could cause that? Seems like it happened after the last oil change. Also could the leak be from the oil filter? Heres a pic of the rag after I wiped the stick.

I was checking the engine today and I think I found a coolant leak close to the Oil Filter reservoir, the fluid is PINK color and that matches the coolant type of fluid, check the pictures. Looking for the location from where the leak might be coming ? Do the Thermostat or Water Pump are closer to that location ?, I have the theory that they might be the cause of the coolant leak, they were changed about 4,000 miles ago,

I have a 2006 vw jetta with about 145k miles on it. When I had taken it for oil change, I was told that there is an oil leak around the oil filter bracket and was given a quote of about 1100. Here is my confusion about. There are no oil spots under the car where I park it, never seen a drop of oil under the car. So where actually is this leak happening? How serious is it? The car doesn't burn a lot of oil either, the oil level doesn't go down drastically and don't have to add oil till oil changes.

This is a 2003 F150 4.6 liter Romeo engine with leak behind the oil filter. I can't tell if the leak is from the oil pressure sensor or the adapter behind it. I think it is from the adapter where it mates with the engine. My question is how the heck do I get it out to put in a seal? I can see one bolt but can't image it being held by one bolt.
