Monte Carlo :: 2002 SS Blower Motor Does Not Come On Occasionally
Sep 8, 2012
I have a problem on the blower motor and i think its something besides the blower motor going out it works fine most of the time but occasionally it does not come on when this occurs I noticed that the cruise light is flashing in the dash and when this is occurring you can push the on/off switch in the steering wheel and the light does nothing. Now whenever the blower motor works properly everything with the cruise functions properly no light in the dash and when turning on/off switch works properly also no noise coming from blower motor ( bearing ) sounds fine. would a bad BCM cause this or am i looking in wrong direction ???

I have a 2002 monte carlo, driving on the road it stopped running, wouldn't start, when i got it home it started but missing bad, I replaced the plugs and coils, didn't stop, tho one seemed to make it a little better, strangely I have noticed the power brakes don't work anymore, very stiff like standard, so may be connected as happened at the same time, searched for a vacuum line off, don't see one......

I have a 95 Monte Carlo LS it has 53,000 miles and When I go to give it gas it hesitates and the rpm goes down and then I let off the gas and do it slowly and its fine. Why this is happening all of a sudden. And my check engine light is on.

1997 Monte Carlo, 3.1 liter, 3rd engine, I have oil in the coolant and it uses 1 qt of oil every 3,00 miles. No smoke from the exhaust. What is causing this???

Turned the key on my 2002 MC SS, V6, 3.8L, and the Intake Manifold exploded.
Intake Manifold Exploding on a GM V6, 3.8L? It sounded like a 12ga shotgun. Fortunately no one was looking into the engine compartment at the time as they likely would have been killed given the amount of shrapnel from this explosion. Note that the explosion was powerful enough to blow off the oil cap, which is screwed on with very thick threads.
The vehicle was at my mechanics at time and in his forty years he's not seen an intake manifold explode save for those residing on Top Fuel or Funny Cars.

I recently (about a year ago) got a 2000 Monte Carlo, great car, runs good, just one issue. Lately, when I accelerate it shakes in the front end, I let off the gas, the shaking stops, some days are worse than others. Some people have told me its the CVS, or the axle, or the motor mounts. Is this common with a 2000.

The car takes off from a stop as it should. However, it shifts hard from 2nd to 3rd gear and that's when it stumbles and doesn't want to accelerate. It'll go if you press pedal at least halfway down. It runs great other than that. It only has 60k.

My 2006 Monte Carlo has been making a strange 'tweet' sound. I only notice it when the car is off. It's just a single 'tweet', a minute or so will pass, then it does it again. What could this be? I'm worried it's something expensive.

I've had problems with rusted bolts, a remote starter with no fob, and a question on odd keys. It rattles like a lot of other Echo's, but otherwise handles as well as I can expect.
Anyway, the blower motor will, occasionally, squeal when the fan is switched on. Most of the time, it quietens down in a minute or so. This was flagged by the auto broker when I bought the car, and he did suggest having it replaced while the car was in his shop, which I declined.
The above was taken from the 2002 Echo manual.
My question is: What's the difference between the STANDARD heater, and the TWO WAY(S) flow heater? I've looked online for a replacement blower motor, and some seem to specify a 'cold weather' version. Is there any truth in this?
Is the blower motor the whole assembly (as pictured), or does the picture show the whole blower (motor) assembly, complete with the rotary fan blades?
I figure that the squealing indicates it's just the blower motor bearings(?) about to fail. I should be able to remove the whole assembly, and replace just the motor.

My 1997 XLT 4.0 AWD w/Rear A/C has been having a Blower Motor issue for many months. Occasionally the front blower does not blow. Banging on the Blower Motor, either from under the hood, or even from inside the van underneath the glove box, will start it up again. Once running, it continued running okay until at least the next shutdown. This has gone on throughout the summer. Sometimes a good bump in the road would start it.
Now that the winter is here, heat and defrost are more critical, so it has become a bigger problem. Furthermore, is is now almost constant, where it rarely works without a bang. So it is time to actually fix it now.
From other posts, I think it is either the Blower Motor itself, or the Control Module / Resistor. But since the control module is not located on the motor itself, where I bang, it is probably the motor. Question:
1 - What is the problem, and can I fix it with grease (elbow or actual) etc... or is replacement the proper option?
2 - Should I replace the wheel too, which is not available on RockAuto - but is on the junkyard options on eBay. Unfortunately those are often just as broken as mine. Generic Wheels are available in Auto Zone.

I think I've joined the ranks of the no overdrive in our Monte club. Bought the car last summer, 184K on the odometer. Previous owner was original owner. Said trans was always strong. Took the car for a spin Saturday. Previously, no OD issues. It's cold out. Pulled up to a light to get out onto main road. Right turn on red. accelerated normally, but noticed a long hold in 1st before shifting into second. Never saw it before, so was paying attention at the next light, which was right away. Accelerated again, and again a long hesitation going from 1st to second.
Next light is right away again. Light turns green, car shifts normally and I drive it about 10 miles. No issues. I paid particular attention to it going into overdrive, and it did. Arrive a junk yard. Got the part I wanted. Spent about an hour in there. Came back out and started home. Car shifted ok, but did not want to go into overdrive. Thought to myself, well, maybe it's cold. Drove some more. Nope. Never wants to go to overdrive anymore. It does shift from 1-2-3-4 ok. I've heard about the stripped spline in the output shaft, but I was wondering if there is another controller somewhere inside, or outside of the trans that could be causing this issue. When I am in OD and in 4 gear and driving at about 50 MPH and I shift it to D, I feel it shift into 3rd. I plan on getting it diagnosed, but was wondering what you all are thinking.

My 99 Monte Carlo LS has a problem with the ac and the heater being stuck in the defrost mode. The heater and the ac work fine but it won't switch to anything else. I heard this could be a vacuum prob. I found a hose that runs from the top of the upper intake manifold. It goes to a T then one end to the firewall and the broken end is by the battery. I don't know where the broken end goes.

I have a 2005 monte ss supercharged and the tranny is doing some serious banging and knocking..flywheel is tight..no metal shavings in fluid or around tranny. The noise goes away then I rev the engine or driving. But if I floor it it makes a grinding sound at high rpm..

I cant figure out if its the transmission or the control modular. we can shift to anything its just drive and over drive that doesn't register anymore. you can shift to anything else and it works just fine. I have two vehicles that are acting up and I need to get to work with at least one of them.

I've a 2000 Chevy Monte Carlo, 3.4 L engine, 110K miles. The cooling fan is making a intermittent loud noise for some reason or another. Can the motors be purchased separately or will I have to buy the entire cooling fan assembly? Also, could this be a bearing problem? The fan doesn't appear to be rubbing against anything. The fan is running after the engine is turn off although the engine wasn't real hot.................driven under 15 miles and fan came on and stayed on after turning off engine but finally stopped running.
