So the only thing I have changed is the fuel pressure regulator. Man after I did that my cars been running super, even has some added pick me up on acceleration!
So today my check engine light comes on and I get this code???? P0240...
1998 base lumina 3.1 litre. 240,000 miles.
Usually runs great. Burns almost no oil between oil changes. Most recent change was about 3500 miles ago.
Yesterday when I checked the dip stick it had just a little oil showing on the bottom of the dip stick. I ran the motor and checked it a few more times. same thing. Then I put about 2.5 quarts in it and drove about 25 miles.
Then when I checked it appeared to have about 2 quarts too much on the dip stick. Would a bad oil filter cause that or what? Check engine light is on. Auto Zone says the "EGR" is messed up.
I changed the oil and filter today and the stick level looks ok now. I did notice the used oil was very dirty.
My check engine light keeps coming on. I've had a couple of mechanics look at this and they say the code indicates the transmission is going out. the transmissions does not slip or have any signs of going out.
View 4 RepliesA few days ago my "Check VSC" warning came on along with the check engine and traction lights being on. I left my car in a parking garage for a week when I was on vacation and the lights came on once I started the car after getting back from my trip.
I have had the "Check VSC" warning before and I fixed it by replacing my gas cap. My gas cap seems fine this time around so I got my codes scanned and the only one that came up was P0300. Having this issue with the 2007 Lexus GS 350? I still feel like it's my gas cap because I bought a cheap replacement last time around.
I have a 1998 expedition 4.6 4x4 check engine light on od light flashing sometimes checked it and got p1747 code i was told epc solenoid or short on trans wiring. I already dropped the trans pan, looking for a step by step easy way to diagnose and find the short or if i need to replace any of the solenoids. I have voltmeter and taste light....
View 3 Replies08 RX350 with ~100K miles. Two weeks ago the Check Engine/TRAC light were on, VSC light blinks, so I tightened the gas cap, and pull the negative and cleared the code. Hoping this is just a gas cap issue.
2 weeks later all those lights are back again, so my mechanic pulled the code and came up with P0128. He told me it should be the problem with the Coolant Temperature Sensor. The water pump, thermostat was replaced last year and coolant level is OK. No issue with coolant temperature and the car drives like normal. My mechanic cleared the code and told me to drive it again until the lights come back and he will pull the code again.

Just got a 35 on my check engine light. From the list of codes this has to do with a radiator fan control, but the fan is not electric. It's a 1994 Ram with 5.2L 318 engine. I'm confused, what does this mean?
View 7 RepliesI've read many threads in here, but I didn't find problem of my car. It's Toyota Prius-3 2010, check engine light on and code is P0401. EGR Valve works well, I cleaned pipe, gasket, cleaned throttle plate and everything but nothing works.
I have (light on) it maybe 1 year or more, the light goes away and come back,I'm in Los Angeles and all they time is sunny day and weather is nice, I've seen 3 times, when i drove in rain evening and morning I didn't see light on.. then, couple days and comes again. I think maybe EGR cooler has to be replace? or I do not know why in cold weather time light goes away..
1994, 960 ... The vacuum controller has two "vacuum lines" attached to it. Should both lines have vacuum present? I keep getting a 241 code with sporadic idle and check engine light.

View 3 RepliesMy check engine light has been on for months and the only code coming up is for the VSS. I got the VSS replaced and the light came back on as soon as I hit 70 on the freeway. Checked the code again and the same one came up. Is this a common issue with 06 Accents? I'm wondering if it might be a wiring or computer issue... My ABS light is also on, would this have anything to do with it?

View 4 RepliesMy wifes 1998 Intrepids' Check Engine Light came on yesterday, and while she was turning into the driveway the car stalled. It would fire right up again, and drive normally, but when she went to pull into the driveway again it stalled.
I took it into the shop, and they read the computer and thats when the P0731 code showed up.

When I went to bring it home, I then noticed that the speedometer was not working, and the tranny wasn't shifting out of 1st gear. The tranny fluid is clean and not burnt.
I run my 92 celica for a good 30 miles and check engine light comes on but after driving another 20-25 miles it turns off. I red the code it was the Egr (code 71) I took off egr valve and cleaned it out idk if its bad, how to test the valve?

1. Gas cap,
2. Evap Canister vent solenoid,
3. Evap purge solenoid,
4. Evap canister.
I am trying to fix this problem on the Taurus. I have changed the Gas cap and this did not solve the problem. The other three things on the list: Are these three separate things? Or are they part of the same thing?
It just so happens that I got my letter from the DMV telling me I needed to get my new tags, and this is an emissions test year for my car. I was buys the last few weeks so I figured this would be a good week to do it. Yesterday.......check engine light comes on. How does that happen???
So now I'm on a time crunch. I went to Advanced Auto this morning and they checked the code. It's P0440, an Evaporative Emissions code. Any thought on what that me be, or any checklist as to what to check first? I'm fairly handy, but know nothing about cars. I'm sure I can figure it out with some instructions.
Summary: Got a check engine code of P0440, Evaporative Emissions. On a time crunch because I need to get an emissions test done. I can probably fix it myself with some direction.
It came on yesterday and went out on it's own today then came back on later. The code is PO354. the manual says the "D" ignition coil primary is open or has a problem. I don't believe it because the engine runs fine. Opinions?
View 14 RepliesMy wife's car has 83000 miles on it. We bought it as a factory certified pre-owned vehicle with about 1800 miles on it and it came with the warranty. For the last two years the check engine light comes on with code 441 I don't worry about it till time to get inspection sticker here in Texas. I have been about to reset the computer and drive it till the computer is ready to be inspected and it has passed for two years. Now it won't reset and I have tried to test the vacuum switch and it seems to click when I apply voltage but light won't go off. This code can cost up to about 2000.00 to try and detect. I am not interested in having the dealership keep guessing on my dime.
View 2 RepliesI have an '09 LS SWB AWD with 86k miles on it. A few days ago the check engine light came on with a message on the dash for me to check the VSC system. The next day the check engine light and VSC warning went away on their own. A day after that they came back on. I pulled the ODB codes and got the following:
P0012 - "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Retarded Bank 1
I took it to my local Lexus dealership and they determined that my VVT-i motor assembly needed replacing. Total cost would be $1,222. Apparently this part regulate the camshaft for variable valve timing. I asked if I should notice a performance dropoff since it's related to valve timing but they said no. They said I wouldn't make it worse by driving it so I took my car back and they would order the part for me.
The next day the check engine light and VSC warning went away on their own again and have not come back on for 3 days now. I don't understand why the warning and check engine lights keep going off on their own if this motor assembly needs replacing. Once again it has been 3 days now and no lights have come on.
