I recently bought Lumina 2004 LS. both radiator fan clicks when temperature is very high (about to reach red). Also I have noticed when the AC switched on fans are not running continuously, works for few seconds and went off.
I have already tried replacing the thermostat and two relays. What to check? Looking for wiring diagram for Radiator fans.
99 lumina. Ac was not working. I added a few oz's and the compressor clicked on but cooling fans were not running. After 10 min of idling the fans did come on but went off after 1-2 minutes. It seemed like they were responding to coolant temp more than ac pressure. Do the fans run when the hi pressure rises to a certain point where the computer will turn on fans?
View 7 RepliesI am having trouble with my air conditioning system in my 1996 Chevy Lumina. When I turn on the AC, the compressor clutch does not engage and the fans do not spin. I was able to jump the compressor so the clutch engaged, however, the fans still did not spin and the AC was not cold. I then jumped the low pressure cycling switch (near the accumulator), which caused the fans to spin while the compressor was running. However, this still did not produce cold air from the AC and none of the AC lines were cold to the touch. I am starting to think the system is low on Freon, but I do not have gauges to test the pressure.
View 2 RepliesI have a Tiguan 2010 Manual , I noticed yesterday that the fans Runs after 5 Seconds from Turning on the Engine and continues to Run until i switch off the Engine. Everything else in the car is normal , Temp , Oil Temp l Airco ..etc. The only thing i notice is the high noise due to this.
View 8 RepliesI bought my 2002 Excursion 6.8L about 2yrs ago, no less than a week of having it I started to have all sorts of problems. (insert nagging wife here) the biggest of problems was the darn thing started to run very rough and the ABS light cont to flash, then the truck just died (engine stopped, EXTREMELY scary in a intersection) I replaced the VSS in the rear diff.. acted a little better for a while then..no luck. I called around to every ford dealer in town. I need more break light fluid to there isn't enough grease on my wobbler pin?
So I got the initiative to simplify what I was seeing and hearing. I found that there was an OSS sensor on the tail of the transmission...drove my very intense self up to the dealership and bought myself a new OSS sensor. I got home and replaced it, then I drove my truck under the largest shade tree I could find and replaced all the coils and spark plugs. (Insert bloody knuckles and curse words here) Job Done. I thought to myself if this doesn't fix it then I don't know what to do. (I couldn't sell it)...again the point being...the truck has never ran better, gas mileage has doubled and the true power of the v10 has been restored. I found 4 different types of spark plugs in it and 3 different types of coils...?
The other morning I went out to the garage and heard a strange noise coming from the rear (underneath the 3rd row seating/storage area) of my GX460. It sounded like a pump or something running continuously. I was in the garage for 10 minutes and the noise had started before I entered the garage and continued after I left. When I went back out to the garage 3-4 hours later it had stopped so I am not certain how long it was running for. I previously owned a 2006 GX470 with the rear air suspension and this was not the sound that was coming from my new GX. The car had not been running or driven in over 8 hours and I am at a loss as to what it could be. I figured I would check here first before delving into the 700+ page owners manual to troubleshoot.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2008 F350 FX4 with the 6.4l diesel, a couple weeks ago I was reprogramming the ecm and noticed the vacuum pump was running and wouldn't stop, so after a bunch of reading and testing i changed the solenoid vacuum valve. I tested all the vacuum lines and found no leaks.
View 3 RepliesMy R now has 78k on the clock so I guess it's time for the obligatory issues with the radiator fans. My car started running hot from time to time, not constantly. Brief explanation of the issues and my "diagnosis" for each:
Without the A/C turned on the fans don't come on - when I turn the A/C the passenger side comes on all the time (faulty switch). Driver's side fan is intermittent - usually it turns on with the a/c but if it doesn't a tap on the center with the lug wrench gets it spinning (stuck brush).
The main thing I want to make sure is that it's not a thermostat issue as well (or instead of the switch). The heat works fine - I've been blasting it every time I hit traffic on my way home just to ensure that the car doesn't overheat. My assumption was that if the heat works then the thermostat is opening to allow the coolant into the heater core.
I've figured out why my car has been overheating lately, the fans aren't running at all! How do I get the front end off and check things out, is there a fuse diagram for the B6...
View 16 RepliesSo about 3 weeks ago, I was driving down the road at about 55 mph, on cruise control, when my car just started slowing down. I looked to see all of my dashboards lights on and I realized my car was not running. I shifted into neutral and the car started right up again, but when I pushed on the gas it just kind of stuttered and shuttered before dying again. When I came to a stop, again the car started right up, but repeated the shuttering and hesitating when I pushed on the gas and tried to get going again.
So, I repeated, but this time i just pushed very gently on the gas, getting up to between 5-10 mph before the car died again. At this point, it just stopped running completely. The engine would turn over, but would not keep running. When I got it into the shop, the mechanic said they put a fuel pressure gauge on there and the readings indicated that there was plenty of pressure, no problems the fuel pump or lines.
After further research, the mechanic said he thought it was an electrical problem, that it could be the crankshaft sensor or the ignition switch module, but he just did not really know for sure. I had him replace the crankshaft sensor, since it was the cheaper part, and it didn't fix the problem. So now I am just kind of stuck on what to do here.
I have a 1990 3.1L, multiport fuel injection (NOT sequential FI), which runs very well most of the time. However, when I cold start it runs rough (misfire) for about 1 minute (no throttle) or until acclerated. The is no misfire when running normal, but it might be running a little rough when stopped at a traffic light (in Drive, foot on brake).
I put new plugs and wires on, but it did not affect this problem.
I am not using coolant, or oil, the plugs that were removed were somewhat worn, enough that I expected to notice a difference after they were changed.
I have not yet (1) cleaned the MAF, (2) checked carefully for vacuum leaks, (3) checked for leaking injectors.
Since this is a 1990, OBDI, I can't say which cylinder is misfiring or how the fuel trims look etc.
My main top water hose burst. I replaced it. Car ran hot. Replaced the thermostat, coolant sensor, and 12 volt relay fuses for primary and secondary fans. Still ran hot. Fans not coming on. I tested fans in service mode by paper clip to F and G in the diagnostic scan box. Fans came on, so no blowed motors. Got desperate, so ran a toggle switch to primary fan, so fan would run while I drive. Still, when the car gets hot, after about 5 miles of regular driving, the car huckabucks, and cuts off at slow downs and stops. Really bad in the middle of light intersections.

I woke up to a dead battery this morning .. And the other day I realized that my climate fans were still running even after the car was completely off.. It's really strange I'm not sure what the issue could be, but not only that! I can adjust to any temp, throw on the a/c and no matter what it's blowing out hot hot hot...

View 4 RepliesSo my friend, ignoring my advice that this generation seems to be riddled with electrical problems, decided to purchase a seemingly nice 99 Jetta, with a junkyard AEG swapped in(AEG is written on the intake and block like a JY would do). Sun roof doesn't slide back, gets jammed, evidence shows water has built up previously and run down the A-Pillar to the fuse box.
I just got the fans unplugged and verified that the fans with power applied, both have their low/high speeds. The fuses on top of the battery are in-tact, no visible melting, looks like the thing is in ok shape(haven't taken them off to inspect the contacts yet).
So I replaced my big fan today. Everyone knows that the factory fans are notorious for going out. After replacing the fan, I turn the car on and noticed that both fans were on... and never turned off. So I turned the car off, and turned the car over again. and they still were constantly running. I messed with the climatronic controls and when I have the settings on auto the fans are constantly running, when I have it on econ, they don't run. And when its on neither, the fans are constantly on unless I turn it off. Before replacing the fan, I replaced both the FCM, CTS, and the fan switch. Its becoming pretty frustrating. I supposed it could act as my own switch for the fans, hahaha. I've searched and havent found anything like this. Hopefully its something small
View 2 RepliesI went out to my car this morning and the fans were both running full speed. That's before I even got to it then they carried on doing so when I started the car and still ran after I shut it off. I have stopped them by pulling the 30A battery top fuse for them but what has caused it and how I can fix it? Preferably not too expensively as I am moving house next month typically.
The car is a 2003 1.8t GTI with climatronics ....
I replaced the thermostat and coolant now the car acts like it's running on 4 cylinders. It's a 1992 3.1. The car ran fine before I just can't figure out what I did. Its real hard starting ,runs extremely rough. And the cooling fans are coming on when cold. Disconnected the battery to to reset the computer. pulled the codes got 45 (rich).
