Car has this vibration for the first mile or so. After that it smooths out to nothing. don't hear anything on corners, no metal on metal ( I know they are pressed in bearings sealed).
New rubber, fresh alignment, balanced wheels. Anyway, I can't tell what wheel it is coming from. What would cause a good vibration for a short period of time? Is this the start of wheel bearings? If so, how do you figure out what corner?
I just purchased my 2003 sc it has 78000 miles on it and I am not sure if im running rf's in the rear and non rf's in the front. I know the ones in the rear are very different looking they are s800 bct's , and the front they are continentals. Anyway how can i tell between a run flat tire and a non run flat tire??
Do they look different in appearance? All i know is that sucker vibrates damn good at around 55-68 mph. should i get a wheel balance?There is no spare in the trunk and the tires look brand new.
I have 2002 SC430 with an annoying vibration through the seat/chassis at 60mph but she's smooth at 55 and slower and at 65+ mph ? Things I have tried so far ...

wheel alignment
2 rims rerolled that were out of round
bushes and suspension all checked
moved wheel positions front to back etc
Thinking now maybe driveshaft or uni joints ? or new tires but that's an expensive exercise !!
I took my car to a mechanic the other day to get the spark plugs change. Then I notice when I turn my car on my seats starts to vibrate when in idle. Is this normal cuz the mechanic says this is normal and that every car vibrates just a little. I read some where it could be the mounts but someone on here told me they not because it doesn't shake my seats just vibrates if I seat there I can feel the seats vibrating on and off its not crazy bad vibrate. It's a minor vibration. I was hoping for no vibration what so ever like sitting in on my leather couch in my living room. Mine is a old model 2002.

2) I have a slight intermittent magic fingers kind of idle. I changed spark plugs, no diff, have been using Techron, timing belt replaced, etc.
I have noticed that when pressing on the brakes at 50 MPH and higher my steering wheel starts vibrating and it feels like the car is being tugged a little to the left. This started a couple of weeks ago, what might be causing this?

1. My 2002 SC430 with 23,000 miles on it is making a low rubbing noise when slowing down, with a slight vibration, not severe enough, but it is annoying and frankly surprising on this car. The dealer tells me it's because the brakes have "glaze" on them, and short of a new brake job, you can jam on the brakes to clear or loosen some of this and reduce the noise. ( I live in the desert so I'm sure I could find a deserted stretch or road for this craziness...) The dealer reports the brakes have 70 - 80 percent life on them and I don't need a brake job.
2. Power steering. I thought this particular car was just hard to steer, but even the tech at the dealer commented it's like I have no power steering. I test drove two other cars, and the steering is markedly lighter on the other two SC430's I drove. (2002 and 2005) Dealer can't seem to find an explanation, but I have to drive this car with two hands around town... I know this is not the way this car was intended to feel.
I don't believe the car changed that much from the 2002 model so as to affect the steering. BTW, I'm using stock tires, not run flat, 4 months old. And the steering is stiff at idle anyway, regardless of tires. The first SC I drove, which sealed the decision to buy one, was so quiet I didn't know the engine was running, easy to steer, and smooth.
I have an 06 Lexus GS300 awd. Yesterday, when I left out of my neighborhood, my car drove approx 1 mile and just STOPPED running. I coasted to the shoulder of the road & attempted to start it again. It cranked & started for about 2 secs & died again. After that, each time i tried to crank, it would try & try to start (starter sounded strong) yet would never "turn over". I could feel/hear a few rough spitting & sputtering type feelings/sounds trying to start it, but ultimately it wouldnt crank.
I called a friend (another single mom) to come get me & i purchased some starter fluid & went back to try it. We hooked it up to her battery as I had run mine low trying to crank it. After it had been sitting there while we went to the store, it again tried to crank when I attempted to start ot, but died again within a sec or 2. Then, wouldnt fully crank again. I hear my alternator clicking & as i said earlier, the starter sounds very strong & normal when i push the ignition button.
I tried to just turn it to the "on" position (2 button pushes), leave it a few secs, turn off, then try to crank again (hoping to "prime" the gas lines in case it somehow had sucked in any air or water....which it kinda "feels" like) Still after all that....nothing. I tried having my friend crank while i sprayed starter fluid into the intake, and it actually cranked and would stay running as long as i was continually spraying the fluid. The sec i stopped, it stopped. I really dont hear the fuel pump turning on, although admittedly I guess I never have paid attention before this to know if I ever could "hear" it previously. Im wondering if its just a very quiet one, or if its not turning on at all? (I understand it's in the back of the car kind of under the backseat & not under the hood).
I need to replace the ECM in an 02 SC430 my question is.......?
If i get my hands on a used one will I still have to Reflash the ECM or will the car start run and drive plug and play?
New owner of a 2007 and 1st post. My antenna goes all the way up and then one of the sections retreats.
View 8 RepliesThe lexus sc430 is nice but when I floor it , there is a 2-3 second delay until she kicks down and really takes off. Someone said there is actually an adjustment on the transmission to eliminate this delay. Never heard of such a thing.
View 3 RepliesJust bought my sc and the top won't go down,when I press the button nothing happens no blinking lights or noise.if I open the windows and press the close button the Windows go up,but when I press the down button nothing happens.
I have the trunk cover close and I checked all the fuses in the trunk but they all seem fine nothing blown that I can see.i disconnected the battery overnight and still nothing. I also checked in the glove box and the button is pushed in like it is suppose to be.
Is it possible to turn off antenna when CD is on?
View 7 RepliesA few months my AC starting blowing hot air. When I was at the dealer, they claimed the compressor was bad and wanted over a 1000 to replace. I looked online when I was there and said the new denso compressor was about 300 online. They wanted double. I just left and didn't worry about it since it was about winter then. Now I need to get it fixed.
A guy noticed the other day when I cut the AC button on, the clutch engaged and cut back off. He didn't have time to fully check it that day and wants me to bring back if I can another day.
I did some searching on this board, but haven't seen compressor issues with the SC430. I have a 94 ES300 and a 2004 RX330 and neither have had compressor issues. So I am shocked at this anyway.
I bought a relay, but that did not work. I just read on the LS forum that a lot of people have had problems with the AC pressure switch.
I understand that switch could prevent the compressor from coming on when the switch goes bad. Do we have that switch on the 06 SC430? If so, where is it? I can't find a part number listed in All data. I would love to check it before spending a ton of money on compressor replacement.
By the way, I have plenty of refrigerant. They checked that at the dealer and added some then. And I did AC diagnostics and show no codes.
I thought my top used to go down in drive when I was at 0mph, but recently it only goes down when the car is in park. Maybe my memory is just bad but does everyone's sc430 top go down in park only ? Or can you also drop the top when you are in drive at 0mph? Maybe it never could drop the top in drive at 0mph and my mind is playing tricks on me!

View 3 RepliesI thought I'd post an update about my front end shakes that I've been working on eliminating since I bought my SC. They used to occur anywhere between 55-70 mph. The remaining shake occurs around 65-70 mph. I should mention that when I added H&R 25mm wheel spacers in the back and 20mm spacers in the front. I had the shakes both before and after adding the spacers though. The following list is what I've done over the past couple of years to try to eliminate my shakes:
1) New tires - Bridgestone Potenza's, nice tires, better ride.
2) Replacement, chrome, OEM wheels. Look nice.
3) Road force balancing.
4) Steering rack was replaced with a rebuilt unit because the old one was leaking. Came with inner tie rods and I put on new outer tie rods at the same time. No change in shaking.
5) Daizen polyurethane lower control arm #2 bushings.
6) Daizen upper control arm and lower control arm bushings.
7) Daizen steering rack polyurethane bushings. Still not perfect, but this made a huge difference.
I did the steering rack bushings today. I've really, really developed a dislike for Lexus steering bushings!
Some background: I had issues with my '01 LS430 steering bushings @ 85K miles. My only choice was to replace them with OEM. I should have replaced them at 50K. They were really, really awful. The interesting thing, though, is that they physically looked pretty good. The result is amazing; nice and tight.
The bushing design of the SC is essentially the same as the LS. But luckily we have more choices with our steering rack bushings than the LS crowd. I began to hang around the GS guys because their front end is quite similar. The '98-'05 GS430 uses the same steering rack and bushings as our SC. Sewell sells both OEM and an aftermarket polyurethane solution for around $30 complete.
At this point my SC tracks very, very well. The polyurethane suspension bushings probably add a bit of harshness to my ride but I don't find it objectionable and it's a reasonable tradeoff for the added precision in the front end. I don't believe that the polyurethane steering rack bushings have any tradeoffs at all. The remaining shake that I'm experiencing is pretty darn subtle but I'm not done. I'm going to rotate the tires tomorrow and see if anything changes. I'm also looking at toe in. My front tire wear tells me that I don't have enough. I've been running factory settings but I'm going to experiment with a bit more toe due to the additional road forces created by the wheel spacers. I don't give up easily!
I insert the key, turn it all the way to ignition, car starts, dash is lit up, everything seems to be working. Once I let the key snap back from IGN to anything else, the engine continues to run, but the car acts as if it is off (dash completely dead, wont come out of park).
If I remote start the vehicle using my luxlink (which I've had zero problems with since it's install about 4 years ago), car starts fine, dash lights up, everything is in working order. However, I have to put the key in to unlock the steering wheel, and once I depress the brake, again, car acts as though it's off (no dash/radio/nav, anything electrical, won't come out of park), but the engine continues to run.
My dash lights are very dim during daylight and marginally bright at night. This is for a 2002 Lexus SC430.
