The shocks (or whatever) that keep the trunk open have gone bad. Of course it happened a month after my warranty expired. They look easy to replace. Where to get them, cost, and how to install? I don't like going to my Lexus dealer. They make me feel like a criminal for not changing my oil every 5k, changing my own filters, etc, etc. etc.
View 14 Replies'02 sc430 here and the oddest thing started happening this week. The trunk will not open when using the button on the driver's side. Push the button and I don't hear any activity. But if I use my key remote the trunk pops open as usual. At the exact time this problem started happening, the top stopped opening as well. I pull the cover back as usual in the trunk, make sure it clicks into place, but when I push the button to open the roof, it just flashes red on and off over and over as if the latch is not in place in the trunk. How this all started.

View 7 RepliesI was looking at my car and noticed that i cant seem to find where the keyhole is for the trunk.. i keep my jumper cables in the trunk.. what if your battery died and cant pop the trunk with the button on the inside.. is there a way to open the truink? .. am i just not seeing the key hole or is there not one?
View 14 RepliesToday I tried opening my roof... The trunk lid opened but the top didn't fold.. I closed it... After restarting my car I realized the front switch for the top doesn't even light anymore...
I unplugged the battery... replugged.. the switch opened the trunk lid again but top didn't move and switch was a solid red light... once I pressed closed, trunk lid closed and switch stopped lighting after (not responsive). What it could be?
The hydraulic lifts on the trunk of my wife's 2003 SC430 are failing.
View 14 RepliesI am trying to replace the trunk lights in my 2006 SC430. How do you remove the light covers? It seems like they should just pop off, but reasonable amounts of pushing and pulling has produced zero result. I don't want to break it.
View 1 RepliesI got 2002 SC430 with 59,000 Miles, all of the sudden my car doesn't have any acceleration at all. When I press gas paddle it doesn't do anything, but engine stay on. I couldn't get any error codes since I changed batteries to make sure if it wasn't the battery..
View 4 RepliesI am getting water at the very front of the trunk, nearest the passenger compartment. Might be the drains in that vicinity that might be plugged causing an overflow there .Rest of the trunk is dry. The only wet area is immediately underneath the pull-out "shade" thing that has to be in place for the top to operate. Some indication that the water is coming from above that, since it is wet also.

I cannot tell if something is wrong....other than a slight dent on the outside perimeter of the latch housing?
Other than checking the fuse and the valet switch, anything else to look for when the trunk will not open via the key or the dash switch? The car does make the beep when the key remote is pressed, but no open. Also, the top works fine. Gas door works fine. Manual release of trunk also works.

View 9 RepliesSo, last night I was driving with radio off and a "whirring/fan" sound was audible in the rear of my 2002 SC430 - a sound that I have never heard. The sound seemed to resonate from the driver side, access panel (which I believe holds fuses and other systems for roof). After the vehicle was stopped and restarted the sound continued. Now today, I insert the key into the ignition - no sound; turn to accessory - sound is audible; started vehicle and did not hear sound. Second time I repeated and sound was heard; started and did not hear sound, Third time I repeated and no sound heard in accessory start position. What the heck is this? Any diagram of the trunk and what components are housed in the center bay? Does this vehicle have any auto-leveling function that activates?
View 13 Replieskeep finding a small puddle in the drivers side corner of the trunk no where else just in this removable pocket. Under it is a flap type of thing which goes into the inner rear wing is that for ventilation. Could water get in from there ?
Can't find any drips from the trunk lid all the seals look mint.

View 1 RepliesMy front drivers side pillar is flapping around and won't stay in the set position. It seems to be the washer that the one of the clips goes into (at the very bottom of the pillar) has corroded.
So firstly I am trying to take it off - but after reading the removal of windscreen instructions I see:
21. REMOVE FRONT BODY PILLAR OUTER RH
a) Remove the nut.
I can't see a nut and if it's under the pillar how do I access it?
And then
34: INSTALL FRONT BODY PILLAR OUTER RH
a) Exchange the clip with a new one
What clip is this referring to and what is the part number.
It is very cold up here in WI and this week, I found that the trunk lid would not power open. It would unlatch and then just sit there. There was no ice in the way and it would power down normally. When parked in the garage overnight it was ok but at work at the end of the day it would not do its thing.
View 2 RepliesSo today I walk out Walmart getting ready to put some groceries in my trunk and it won't open. It beeps... But will not open. I've tried the button on both the remote and inside the car. Hell I even took a long stick and went through the middle of the back seat and pulled the trunk release inside the trunk lid.. And it still won't open.... No I did not touch the trunk cancel button in the glove. All it does is beeps. It won't open.
View 14 RepliesSo I had opportunity to drive a Buick Lacrosse. When I popped the trunk, it sprung open all the way which my Lexus does not do. While the rest of that Lacrosse was garbage, I really liked that the trunk did that. Especially when your hands are full. Am I whining enough yet? So this is normal right?
