View 14 RepliesI was installing better lighting in the trunk today and i realized there is no trim on the roof of the trunk - is this normal?
View 14 RepliesI am a new owner of the 2007 SC430. I wonder how reliable is the roof folding in the SC? I heard that many SC having a either mechanical or problems or electrical problem after a while? Is that true?
View 14 RepliesMy roof will not open. When I press the button, it only opens the rear trunk and could hear the roof motor unlocking functioning, but will not open. It only opens about a couple to few inches and stops. It seems tho it's going to open, but gets stuck.
View 7 RepliesSqueaks, rattles and anything else that makes noise (other than the stereo and especially my wife) You can imagine my total horror when I went around a corner and I heard what sounded like a marble rolling through the roof or dash of the car. I've been able to replicate it a few times but I have to be cornering pretty hard to get it to do it. I have had 1/2 of the top apart.....3/4 of the dash apart, under the hood, in the glovebox and console as well as underneath the frame and I cannot for the life of me find the source of the noise.
View 4 RepliesSo i haven't used my top for awhile because it's been really hot in texas. I tried it for the first time today and I can't even get the open close switch to blink red? I did a ecu reset by unplugging the battery for 30 minutes nothing. I check the fuses in the trunk and they were all good. I did install the VIas awhile back but I don't think it could be the temp control? I'm assuming if it wasn't plugged in all the way the AC and other functions would not work.
View 14 RepliesTwo fixes: When raising the roof, stop it halfway. It reveals a round rubber bump stop that sits against the rear parcel shelf. The bumpstop can be adjusted by rotating it. If you raise the bump stop, it sits harder against the parcel shelf and reduces movement, thereby reducing noises. Also, lubricate all roof and boot (trunk) rubbers with glycerine (glycerol).
View 12 RepliesIn an earlier thread, I talked about my roof stalling at the end of an opening or a closing operation. I just returned from a 260 mile round trip to the Lexus dealer to address this problem and get some other maintenance done..
To recap the problem, the roof appears to complete the opening or closing operation but won't finish it by turning off the red light on the switch. The switch then won't respond to either open or close. The roof stalls. It does this about 1 in every 10 or 12 open/close cycles.
Of course, if you drive the car with the red light still lit, you're treated to a chime when you go over about 5 MPH. Also, your trunk is locked.
I repeatedly re-try the switch of course, but without success. I eventually restart the car. Either the switch recovers or restarting does the trick, because so far I've been able to get the switch to work again. I would assume the stall will eventually stop being intermittent.
So, I talked with the Lexus service tech and he said he is very familiar with the SC roof. After hearing the symptoms, he quickly diagnosed a failing proximity switch. He was confident they could diagnose the problem.
So, I was due for the timing belt replacement and decided I'd have Lexus address both issues.
As I suspected, they need to catch the roof stalling to diagnose it. And guess what: They could not get the roof to stall. When the tech called to say my car was ready, I was disappointed my roof could not be fixed. The tech really did not know much about the proximity switches, like how many are in the roof. When I asked, he said replacing them all would be expensive and they did not believe one switch could be identified as the culprit from the description of symptoms.
So, here I am back 130 miles from the dealer with a tricky roof. I am thinking I will find out whether any local mechanic (Toyota or an independent) can find and fix the bad switch when it does fail.
Fortunately for the rest of you, the tech says this is not a common problem. I am aware of the manual operations to raise the roof, but really hope I don't have to go there!
I just got a beautiful red '06 with only 19k miles. It's my second SC, and I can't believe how much I missed it after a four year break.
However, there's already trouble. The roof only opens intermittently. When it works, it's all good, no vibrations, nothing off track, smooth operation all the way open and close.
When it doesn't work, the red light on the open/close button will NOT light up. Nothing happens at all. I will come back to the car a few hours (or minutes) later, and it works fine. The problem never occurs for closing, only opening. Also, several times now I have closed my roof, and then immediately tried to open it again, but no deal. Those symptoms make me think it's not the ECU, but one of the sensors.
BTW, there is no Luxlink installed yet. I have yet to find one that includes the double-click option
Having a problem when going over speed bump or drain at the end of your driveway? My roof makes a popping noise?
View 6 RepliesI have this strange creaking almost a sharp cracking noise coming from the rear part of the roof near my head when I go over some bumps. I have tried all the usual methods; lubricating roof rubbers, adjusting bump stop under package shelf; adjusting roof height using the grub screw adjustment; nothing seems to work. It almost sounds as if the noise is coming from some of the hard plastic roof trim but I can't seem to pinpoint it despite using foam padding, silicone spray etc..
View 3 RepliesI have 2002 sc430 that i purchase new. I now have a rattle from roof on driver side back behind my head above the little window....
View 10 RepliesThe closest thread I found was this [URL] ..... The straight rod that goes into the windshield from the roof, on the passenger side, does look a bit worn. should i tape it up? I started having this problem recently. Never heard this noise the past.
My sc430 is giving a loud pop right over passenger's side from roof, whenever my car goes over a bump or rough road. I think it's where the front hardtop latches are. Only on the driver's side. It's a loud pop sound.
Does this have something to do with the latch, or latch motors, that closes the power roof ? Would it work if I tighten the retractable top by turning the rubber button in the center back of the car, the one that exposes during roof operation as outlined by other posters here?
I was looking at my car and noticed that i cant seem to find where the keyhole is for the trunk.. i keep my jumper cables in the trunk.. what if your battery died and cant pop the trunk with the button on the inside.. is there a way to open the truink? .. am i just not seeing the key hole or is there not one?
View 14 RepliesI have had this slight rattle sound in roof driver side rear which comes randomly if road is bad or bumpy.. It doesnt bother me but would be nice if it wasnt there. I don't know what it is but seems like some wire or something inside in corner which shakes...
View 14 RepliesToday I tried opening my roof... The trunk lid opened but the top didn't fold.. I closed it... After restarting my car I realized the front switch for the top doesn't even light anymore...
I unplugged the battery... replugged.. the switch opened the trunk lid again but top didn't move and switch was a solid red light... once I pressed closed, trunk lid closed and switch stopped lighting after (not responsive). What it could be?
The shocks (or whatever) that keep the trunk open have gone bad. Of course it happened a month after my warranty expired. They look easy to replace. Where to get them, cost, and how to install? I don't like going to my Lexus dealer. They make me feel like a criminal for not changing my oil every 5k, changing my own filters, etc, etc. etc.
View 14 RepliesThe hydraulic lifts on the trunk of my wife's 2003 SC430 are failing.
View 14 RepliesI am trying to replace the trunk lights in my 2006 SC430. How do you remove the light covers? It seems like they should just pop off, but reasonable amounts of pushing and pulling has produced zero result. I don't want to break it.
View 1 Replies'02 sc430 here and the oddest thing started happening this week. The trunk will not open when using the button on the driver's side. Push the button and I don't hear any activity. But if I use my key remote the trunk pops open as usual. At the exact time this problem started happening, the top stopped opening as well. I pull the cover back as usual in the trunk, make sure it clicks into place, but when I push the button to open the roof, it just flashes red on and off over and over as if the latch is not in place in the trunk. How this all started.
View 7 RepliesI am getting water at the very front of the trunk, nearest the passenger compartment. Might be the drains in that vicinity that might be plugged causing an overflow there .Rest of the trunk is dry. The only wet area is immediately underneath the pull-out "shade" thing that has to be in place for the top to operate. Some indication that the water is coming from above that, since it is wet also.
