My Radiator fell inside the car I tried to pick it back up but its hooked on something in the bottom and I can move it. Not even sure how are why it would fall. is there some kinda of bracket that holds in place or a bolt?
View 6 RepliesJust wondering if there's been any incident where the coolant in the SC430 is leaked into the gearbox at the radiator. I mean, these cars do have the transmission fluid running through the radiator, right? I've read that this occurs a lot on LS430 and many Mercedes models.
Would it be a good preventive measure to replace the radiator anyway? Or, is it ok to wait till there're signs of such leakage (if it doesn't usually begin as a major leak)?
Have noticed some pink fluid seeping around top of radiator, which has created a bit of a mess in the engine bay. Is this indicative of a radiator leak? I don't see any visible cracks, however not much of the radiator is viewable. If replacement is necessary, what OEM alternates are recommended? car is running fine and not overheating. It's an '02 sc430 with 171K miles.
View 14 RepliesI went for a hour drive tonight after i brought car back to garage i could smell a distinct odor of anti freeze or fumes that would exit the radiator. I checked under the car no leak i looked in the engine compartment looking for perhaps a spill of antifreeze that might be resting on top of the front engine pan. I could not find any liquid.
The temp gauge when i was driving was a bit below mid way it usually as I remember is there or a bit lower. Where the smell is coming from I had the heat on for a bit in the car while top was down and i have no leaks in the interior of the car . The car is a 2005 I have 5940 miles on it . I bought it new in 2005 and I only drive it in good weather and on weekends .
I have not had any major service since the mileage is so low other then state inspections oil and filter regular changes done once a year Mobil 1 . Should I consider flushing the radiator and changing the anti freeze. As I said I don't drive it on long runs but I do use it a bit around town. When I lift the hood i can smell the anti freeze but cant find any.
What to look for. The coolant overflow reservoir cover was in place and all hoses looked good and there was some residual coolant in the tank as there should be and i could not see any steam or vapor coming off these parts.
'02 SC430 with just over 30K miles. She is wearing out the inside edges of the tires. We have had the car aligned twice in our one year ownership. Are these cars prone to this kind of wear and/or going out of alignment? Would this be a spring/shock/strut issue? I assume the original components are still on the car so maybe she just needs replacement parts due to age. She has low miles, but she is 11 years old now.
View 14 RepliesI have an '05 Lexus SC430 with 53,000 miles on it. For the past couple of years, I have noticed an intermittent antifreeze smell (sweet odor) when driving. It never lasts for long and is apparently coming out of the vents. I can not figure out any common denominator to cause this, other than the radiator was replaced in Nov. 2014. My long-time mechanic has ridden with me a few times and I am unable to recreate for him to diagnose.
View 9 RepliesI got into my sc430 2002 tonight and noticed that the little circle with triangle inside, that represents the car on the nav screen is blinking. I could swear that it is usually steady. Need to confirm, it's normally steady or blinking!
View 14 RepliesMy '03 driver's side door has been opened enough, and unfortunately with force when it catches a wind gust or opens downhill, etc, that it's actually resulted in a lengthening crack in the middle of the inside door panel. There are two hinges that are fine, which actually keep the door attached to the car frame.
In between, on the higher side of the inside of the door, there's a 'stopper' bolted to the door, with a bracket 'inside' the door. That's where the force of the door opening is applied to the door itself, and where the crack has appeared. It's already a good 4-6 inches long, and presumably will keep going.
In my head, the options seem to be:
-wait for the stopper to fully rip a piece of the door off, at which point the door will open all the way into the car itself.
-attempt a small scale weld 'in place' with a small overlay strip across the crack.
-pull the door all the way apart to where the welder felt more comfortable doing a solid repair job.
-find a replacement door altogether.
From both the key remote and inside the car the power locks only occasionally respond. Currently most of the time just the driver side os working. Acts the same when the car is running and when it is off. Seems like the first time i hit lock or unlock it works but repeatedly doing it it stips moving the lock. Bad relay?

A locksmith came and instead of using the tool to unlock using the unlock button, he just pulled the regular lever inside with the tool to open the door while it was locked. Since then I cannot open the driver's side door from the inside. It will open, lock and unlock fine from the outside. It is unlocked when I attempt to open it from the inside. I pull the lever and nothing happens. I have to unroll the window and open the door using the outside handle or crawl over to exit from the passenger side door.
View 4 Replies2000 4runner SR5. This problem has been going on for a while, it comes and goes. The truck will start stalling out, sputtering along, then pick right back up. It is like the engine is being choked for gas. It never totally fails, I just lose all engine power for a second or two, then it picks back up. Then, the check engine light will turn on.
I thought the light might be for a gas cap, so I checked that first. Unscrewed the gap and hear a very noticeable "whoosh" air noise, like air getting sucked into the gas tank. After I adjusted the gas cap, the truck starts working as normal, runs great. For a couple weeks or so. Then the same problem. And the same fix has always worked as well - the gas cap trick, thus far, has worked every time (about five times).
I took it to a mechanic and they said the codes are for the throttle and I need a new throttle body for $1500 freakin dollars. I don't doubt the throttle could probably use replacing, but I don't think that's is what is causing this issue. If the throttle was the problem, it doesn't seem like it would be a problem that comes and goes. And why does the gas cap fix work?
Things I have replaced in the few years - fuel filter about a year ago, air filter recently, evap, O2, cat, timing belt, water pump, gas cap (about a month ago). Needless to say, I got a lot of $ into it. Think it could be fuel pump?
Bad news: Radiator fan fell off while driving tore up fan blades. It is going to take them a week to get the parts!
Good news: My extended warranty is good for 10 more days! So the fan and fan clutch need replaced.
Should I insist that they replace the serpentine belt that rubbed on fan (50,000 miles on belt, original belt) and the water pump? It put a good dent in the radiator but didn't puncture it.
Diagnosing different minor problems with my sc430. Tthe lastest one is that my navigation screen will not tilt back so the cover will go over it. It seems like its tilted forward all the way. The screen still works and all. But the tilt button does nothing and its too far out for me to get the wood grain cover to go over it. Is this a common issue? and whats the remedy?

View 4 RepliesJust picked up a pretty nice 2002 sc430 today. On the drive home I realized all the dash backLights are not lighting up. However the The radio and climate control unit do have a dim backlight working but is stuck at one level of illumination.
Like most cars the all dash lights should be very bright during the day and when you turn on the headlights they should all Dim down. ..... Not on this SC.
Makes no difference what position the headlight switch is in....Nothing changes or lights up

The little Dimmer does nothing either when turned all the way one way or the other.
Fuses? I am not sure what to try.
I've had a squeak, for lack of a better word, in the back seat near or rear window. I couldn't tell if it was the rear seat back or something else.
I began lowering the roof and stopped the process by turning off the ignition while the roof was just setting down in the trunk. This leaves the raised covers pointing up vertically to let the roof pass. (When the roof is up these covers form the rear "package shelf".) In the center of the car just under this cover there is a round black rubber bumper stop the size of a 50 cent piece (whatever those are). This stop is adjustable up-and-down. Rotating it counterclockwise raises the stop and clockwise lowers it. I raised my rubber stop, by hand, a couple of turns upward.
That's all. The squeak is gone. This bumper apparently bind the package shelf to the roof when it is up and stops if from moving around - and squeaking. I don't know the Lexus method for adjusting this bumper stop but a turn or two made a wonderful difference in my mood today.
I would like to know if i am the only one that had that problem... a few weeks ago, I had to stop and get the truck towed to the dealership and they told me that my engine was shot. Then they told me it was a glow plug that fell inside the cylinder... didn't know it was possible but any way it was under warranty.
Last Monday they asked me to bring all my service receipt and that ford is asking them to take the engine apart and study it before they would ship a new engine... Are the trying to get away from paying it under warranty? The truck is 2011 with 80000 km (50000 miles).
Having issues with the gas door not closing. I opened it a couple days ago, and the little tit inside didn't pop back out. I messed around with the lever under the steering wheel and with the unit inside the gas door. Got the tit to pop out, but once I opened it again, it didn't stay out. Not sure if I need a new cable from the pull lever to the door, or just the unit that's inside the gas door.
