I have an interesting automatic transmission problem. Hot or cold makes NO difference. When the car is started, put in reverse it will work perfectly 100% of the time. When the car is started, put in Drive the transmission will slip for about 5-10 seconds before working perfectly. When the car is started, if you wait 3-5 minutes, then put it in Drive it will work perfectly.
View 13 RepliesWhen I go out in the morning to my c430 and start to reverse always on full lock either right or left the wheels seem to slip or slightly spin - it only happens for a second but it's strange and doesn't always happen.
View 2 RepliesI have had an issue with my GX470 almost since I bought it in 2008. It will sometimes not engage in drive after backing out of a parking space.
It usually happens when it is warm and the car has been driving for awhile then I park for lunch or an errand. I come back start up the car put it into reverse backout of the car space and nothing for a good 5-6 seconds. Seems a lot longer when cars are waiting to take your space and honking.
Anyway I have been reporting it to Lexus at every service and getting a no trouble found. Over time it is occurring more regularly and it even happened at the dealership but of course I was the only one in my car at the time.
220,000 miles, auto transmission slip in drive, reverse ok. What needs to be fixed and what will it cost?
View 2 RepliesI have a Honda Odyssey with 154000 miles on it. In February it started to slip when putting it into drive. I thought this was due to the cold snap. The slip/delay grew until it would disengage from gear when driving. Eventually it was not safe to drive and I had it towed to a transmission shop. They have replaced the TCU, the torque converter arm & the transmission & the ring kit. He has told me that he won't charge more than he originally quoted me, but when I went out there yesterday nothing had changed (it was still on the lift with the exhaust & undercarriage on the floor) since two days prior when he told me it would be done on Friday. Do I have any recourse, and how do I make him finish this job?
View 3 RepliesI have a new issue that started last Friday. When I put the truck in gear and let it begin to pull itself, drive or reverse, it has a strange jerking or slipping deal. It doesn't happen every time but when it does you can feel it in the drivetrain. I took it to the shop that did the motor work and they ran a diagnosis(while I watched) on the motor and its turns up nothing. It runs perfect, shifts like it always has, but just has this jerking/slipping thing when I let off the brake and it starts to pull itself.
If I go from brake to throttle its fine. I had the rearend diff worked on to fix the leaky ring and pinion seal and the differential cover sealed at the dealer last month. I searched and don't see anything like what I am experiencing. Could my tranny be giving it up now? It has never been overworked and never overheated. I had the full fluid service done at about 70k and now it has about 130k on it.
RX 350 (mine is 2013) produce a slight bump in revs as you decelerate moderately going from 2nd gear to 1st? It goes away after the tranny is warmed up. Wondering if it's just a result of the cold weather.
View 5 RepliesI thought my top used to go down in drive when I was at 0mph, but recently it only goes down when the car is in park. Maybe my memory is just bad but does everyone's sc430 top go down in park only ? Or can you also drop the top when you are in drive at 0mph? Maybe it never could drop the top in drive at 0mph and my mind is playing tricks on me!
View 9 RepliesI have 142k miles on my 2005 RX330 AWD. This week I can feel the transmission slip/shudder when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear.
My local transmission guy is pretty reasonable but like most salesmen he's going to say rebuild it the entire transmission in lou of something less invasive.
I've had a 1999 explorer for a few months. The transmission has always taken a couple of seconds to "catch" in drive and was then fine. Today, I had to tow another car a short distance and now going into drive directly is useless.
I must shift into 2nd and then back into drive. Then, for the most part, the car drives fine unless I have to put it in Park or in Reverse. Then I must repeat the procedure.
The fluid is fresh and the dipstick shows a slight overfill. Is there anything I can do about this or is this the death of the transmission. If I can run it another couple of years, I'd be satisfied.
Still having issues with the transmission on my 05 F350. I posted before that it would take a few seconds to go into drive or reverse. The fixes were to change filters and do hot flush. I had the dealer do a hot flush, and then I put about 1000 miles on it. That didn't seem to fix anything, so I went back in and asked for more info. They did not change the filters. I thought they did, but found out they did not after the fact, so I decided to change the filters myself.
The interior filter was easy to change. The fluid was clean, and the magnet had shavings on it but nothing that seemed extraordinary. The exterior filter is impossible to get off. I reviewed posts on here before trying, so first was the impact wrench, then the pipe wrench, then the pipe wrench with a block wedged in to keep the thing from bending, still no luck. The cast nut broke off well before the pipe wrench came out of the drawer. How to get that thing off. I read on here somewhere that no fluid goes through that until 180 degrees, is that correct?
Scanguage says it rarely goes over 160, except for last evening when I was stuck in traffic. It went to 187, with ECT at 208. During this period, traveling under 40 most of the time, the transmission was shifting erratically, to the point I wanted to pull over and allow it to cool down. But traffic broke free, speed went up, and temps went down. Shifting returned to normal, except when trying to engage drive or reverse. The 3-4 second delay persists at any temp, and there doesn't seem to be any slippage. Just delayed and sometimes hard engagements. I'm at a loss for whats wrong.
I've own my Lexus sc430 for a couple of years now and I've been experiencing some problems. Its a 2002 sc430 with 77k miles. When I drive on the freeway at around 60-70mph the car decelerates. Everything else is working. The car feels like I let off the pedal, but I really didn't. I went to the my mechanic and try to see if any codes came up but nothing. Also hooked it up to the scanner while driving and when the problem happens still no codes. the mechanic cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body. He said he thinks it might be fuel filter problem. I read that the Throttle Position Sensor could be the problem, but when I told my mechanic he said he doesn't think that it could be the problem or else it would throw a code. The mechanic also thought that it could be that the tires are low on air so he filled them up and drove home and had no problems. but I feel its still might happen. a

The Trans will unlock while driving for a few seconds then lock back up and drive fine, it seems to be worse over the past couple days. It is no different cold or hot. I also noticed the head lights dim and the voltage on my scanner drops to around 12 volts when the trans disengages. When it is not acting up it drives and shifts perfect.
I have checked a few grounds that were visible and cleaned battery connections. The misfire code has been fixed, not related.
I have a 2006 F250 Lariat super Duty / 6.0 L engine / 143000+ miles / once started and transmission shifted into drive it takes 5 seconds or more for it to engage hard or if I build up the RMS then it jumps into gear hard, after it gets going it feels like I am driving on a washboard until it get warmed up good 10 mile or so. Is it the transmission filter and if so which one, I understand there is a small one on the outside of the transmission if so where? I can't find it.

View 2 RepliesI just changed out my leaking transmission pan this weekend. Drain plug was stripped and leaking.
I put 3.5 quarts in and now I am getting inconsistent oil levels on the dipstick. Last night it was at exactly the correct level. Today it was low.
My dipstick is bent up and goes in hard. Could the dipstick be giving a bad reading? Should I buy a new one?
Btw I check for leaks and the pan and gasket look perfect..
What is the location of the Transmission Cooler Line? Is it by the radiator?

I have read a few threads that post pictures of the pressure regulator dial in pre 06 to firm up shifting. One such thread is this. However, I have not come up with any for 06+ transmission.
View 9 RepliesLast week when I had my car at Lexus dealership for the air bag recall, they took it upon themselves to do an inspection and came up with a few "recommendations".
The one that intrigues me is "found transmission mount worn/loose" recommend "replace transmission mount".
I will take car to my friendly local repair shop this week (never go to Lexus dealership unless it's free).
I'm no mechanic but I've been around cars for a long time and I've never heard of this before: besides the car only has 50000 miles on it.
Am I possibly being scammed or is this legit?
