i keep hearing a noise under the dash by the radio. it is almost a gurgling noise if that makes sense. i don't know if it is the cd player doing something, or something else.
View 2 RepliesHave had SC430 for over 10 years, 94000 miles. Have loud buzzer sound behind dash on startup or when key is turned to on position. The sound last 10-20 seconds and goes off. I have turned the AC off and tried different modes, no change. Everything seems to be working fine with the AC. Could this be a servo motor, the noise is not coming from the engine compartment. Any thoughts on problem and how to fix it. It makes this sound on every startup.
View 4 RepliesGot an '02 here. This noise started to appear recently. When I turn the key to put electricity on (without starting the car), I hear this electric motor-like sound, similar to power window sound, coming thru the dash area, and it can also be heard outside the car coming from somewhere in or near the engine compartment or in front of the dash/windshield area. Could this be one of the servo that operates the AC vents? or its something else?
View 1 RepliesI just got it and the gauge is showing a little hot. I took it in they found nothing. The fans runs almost all of the time. It even started running when I was sitting in my driveway with it in park (it was about 55 degrees outside at the time). I also hear some grumbling noise in the dash on the drivers side. It sounds like something is trying to work (the radio is off and it still makes this sound).
View 5 RepliesNoticed the antenna did not go all the way down. It will also not go up. When I turn the radio off the motor grinds for few seconds but the antenna does not go all the way down. Mast problems? Any links how to fix it?

View 1 RepliesI just purchase a 2002 SC430 with only two (minor) issues. First: the radio display does not work. Everything else is fine. The CD changer works, the radio works, the steering column controls work. The display is blank. Lexus solution is 650$ for a new radio. Seems like there should be a simpler fix.
Second, the panel covering the display does not come down. I can pull it down, and it will go back up with the push of the button. But it will not go back down. Again Lexus fix is 700$. I guess I can keep pulling it down for that price, but how was it resolved.
If i have the radio volume up fairly high, it will keep cutting off for a few seconds then come back on. then cut off again etc....
I presume the amp is getting hot and causing this, am I right? And would I need another amp, or maybe there is a fan in the amp not working? Or am I not even close? Its pretty annoying when that good song comes on and it cuts out.
Its not the actual radio that cuts off, its the sound from the speakers.
I just bought a 2002 SC430, 62,000 miles, silver/saddle near perfect condition on owner, all records for $17,000. The radio door is stuck open and won't close. How to fix it? [/COLOR] Also the radio antenna will not go all the way down - about five inches stays up. Are the two problems related. Like others mentioned, I could eat off of the engine and the trunk still smells like a new car.

From digging around here, it looks like this could be a fuse problem - but both of these at the same time? Are they the same fuse? Are the fuses I would need to replace in the passenger side or under the hood?
BTW... it was pretty comical getting to the fuse thing in the passenger foot well - I am just over 5 feet tall, so it was easier to do it head down, feet near the headrest of the seat!
We have a 2004 and 2007 SC.
I notice that the dash lights on the 04 are dim compared to the 07 even though the dash control switch is turned all the way up. Is this the nature of the car or is there a setting that can be adjusted through the computer?
I just got home from a 650 mile trip and I have pinpointed something I have been hearing for a while but couldn't figure it out. It's a very very faint rattle (something like the sound a hard drive makes) and it seemed to be coming from behind the dash. I experimented a little today and this is what I noticed.
It is actually coming from somewhere around the gas pedal and it only does it when you are neither accelerating or decelerating. In other words, when the engine is at equilibrium if that makes any sense. It's a tiny sound and I should just turn the radio on and forget it, but it's just one of those little things that bugs ya.
I have recently started to hear (at frequent intervals) a loud buzzing sound that can best be described as a phone vibrating/buzzing while its on a table. The sound happens every few minutes and is pretty annoying. It seems to be coming from around the navigation area or glove compartment - i cant pinpoint it. I turned off the radio and AC and the sound is still present. My Navigation Wood cover has been STUCK for a few months (doesn't come out and shut nor tilt) but not sure if that is the cause here. What can be causing this sound?
View 14 RepliesOther than checking the fuse and the valet switch, anything else to look for when the trunk will not open via the key or the dash switch? The car does make the beep when the key remote is pressed, but no open. Also, the top works fine. Gas door works fine. Manual release of trunk also works.
View 9 RepliesSqueaks, rattles and anything else that makes noise (other than the stereo and especially my wife) You can imagine my total horror when I went around a corner and I heard what sounded like a marble rolling through the roof or dash of the car. I've been able to replicate it a few times but I have to be cornering pretty hard to get it to do it. I have had 1/2 of the top apart.....3/4 of the dash apart, under the hood, in the glovebox and console as well as underneath the frame and I cannot for the life of me find the source of the noise.
View 4 RepliesJust picked up a pretty nice 2002 sc430 today. On the drive home I realized all the dash backLights are not lighting up. However the The radio and climate control unit do have a dim backlight working but is stuck at one level of illumination.
Like most cars the all dash lights should be very bright during the day and when you turn on the headlights they should all Dim down. ..... Not on this SC.
Makes no difference what position the headlight switch is in....Nothing changes or lights up

The little Dimmer does nothing either when turned all the way one way or the other.
Fuses? I am not sure what to try.
The last couple of days when I started the car it didn't turn over immediately as it normally does. Now when I turn the key the dash symbols all come on; radio, lights, etc work fine. I hear a strange close sound like lite weight metal fluttering which continues as long as the key is turned to start. But nothing beyond that.
View 4 RepliesSo I've recently noticed a small "bubble" forming on the passenger side of my dash above the glove box. What this can be from or what could have caused it. I'm hoping that it doesn't have anything to do the with the airbag recall.
View 10 RepliesI just installed a new set of OEM LED taillights on my 02' sc430 bought the kit etc but I cannot get the dash rear taillight sensor to turn off. I called the local lexus dealer thinking they might have to reset it and spoke to the lead mechanic and he said i would need to rewire the lights.
View 4 RepliesTried to close the top and it stuck. The deck lid is up, top is half- way unfolded, package tray is in up position. The motor acts like it is binding with ever so slight movement when I push the button to raise or lower. The red light on the dash switch is lit (red).
