'02 SC430 with just over 30K miles. She is wearing out the inside edges of the tires. We have had the car aligned twice in our one year ownership. Are these cars prone to this kind of wear and/or going out of alignment? Would this be a spring/shock/strut issue? I assume the original components are still on the car so maybe she just needs replacement parts due to age. She has low miles, but she is 11 years old now.
View 14 RepliesAbout a week ago I had my car on a hoist getting new exhaust tips installed. At that time I noticed the rear tires are wearing prematurely on the inner edges. So are the fronts but not nearly as bad as the rears. I asked around and was told that this is normal for the factory Pirellis because of the negative camber built in to our cars. This being the reason the car corners so well. I understand the physics of this and I really like the way the car corners. My question is this---Can the negative camber be taken out of the car thusly reducing wear on the inner edges of the tires?? And how much will this be noticed while driving the car normally, and during spirited driving?? I have noticed that some fellows will purposely mod their cars with increased negative camber on the rear wheels, I'm assuming this is to achieve a certain "look".
View 5 Repliesi have noticed that my front tires are wearing quicker on the inside. that is to say they don't seem to be wearing evenly. have almost no tread left on the insides of front tires and these tires only have about 13000 mi on them. is this and aligment problem? dealer says no.

View 1 RepliesIt is an AWD model. My mother just purchased it used from a Lexus dealer last weekend. At freeway speeds, she noticed a shimmy, and she had one of her friends' husbands check the tires out (she's on a road trip and not near me or a Lexus dealer). He found that the tires are starting to delaminate in the front and thread is quite worn on the outer edges.
The vehicle has a warranty (30 days or 1500 miles) and of course Lexus is saying they will only pay for the front tires. (we don't know if that is the whole cause of the shimmy yet I might add). But to deal with the immediate problem, what is Lexus's recommendation regarding replacement of tires on an AWD 350? Do they really say it's ok to replace tires by axle? Because I know that can screw things up on some other cars. . .
I told her to read the owner's manual and see what it says on the matter.
My Bridgestone Ecopias(Ep20s) have 26,000 miles on them and are wore on the outer edges. Both sides are worn. I heard this may be to under inflation. I go to Discount Tire and they set all my tires at 37psi. Is this too low. The door says 35 front and 33 rear. Do I need more air for them to wear evenly? Also I have ordered Michelin Energy Savers. Discount will set them at 37, or should I add more air so this type of wear does not happen? I plan on getting an alignment just in case, but really don't think I need one. There is no pull to either side and the wheel is straight.
View 19 RepliesHaving issues with front tires on 2013 Ford F150? I have a 2013 F150 with less than 20,000 miles with significant wear on the outer edges of the front tires. The dealer has alignment it twice rotated the tires 4 or 5 times and the problem isn't solved. I now have 4 tires with outer edge wear. What the root cause might be. The dealer can't figure out what's causing the problem.

View 14 RepliesSeveral months ago one of my 20" toyo tires was flat when I came out of work. Being a high school teacher, I thought that perhaps it was a students involved situation. That came as a surprise in that as a teacher of over 37 years, nothing has ever happened to any of my vehicles, while parked at school. Also I found it strange that they would let air out and put the chrome valve cap back on. Well, over the weekend, the same thing happened, with the car parked in my garage. So in both instances the tires went flat, I filled them back up and they held air. This happened months apart.

View 2 RepliesMy original 17" Toyo tires are noticeably wearing out after only 25k miles and it appears to need replacement soon. I can probably drive for another 5 to 8 k miles but the edges may be bald by then. I looked at the Toyo replacement tires and the exact ones are actually quite expensive which means they may be in the performance tire category. For a Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon), not sure this vehicle warrants this type of tire. I will be looking for a longer lasting tire for replacement and not necessarily performance tires.

Is it possible and cost effective to just have the bushings rebuilt (replaced) or will i have to buy new control arms. How can I tell what my car actually needs? I just put 4 new tires on the car and am weary of driving it until i get this fixed.

View 8 RepliesI have an '05 Lexus SC430 with 53,000 miles on it. For the past couple of years, I have noticed an intermittent antifreeze smell (sweet odor) when driving. It never lasts for long and is apparently coming out of the vents. I can not figure out any common denominator to cause this, other than the radiator was replaced in Nov. 2014. My long-time mechanic has ridden with me a few times and I am unable to recreate for him to diagnose.
View 9 RepliesI'm trying to figure out why I am having problems with my read tires wearing fast. I knew my car was out of alignment and took it to a shop and they told me I have -1.05 negative toe and bad camber.
Can some shims fix my issue or would I be better with a whole new rear beam. As far as I know the car has never been lowered, but how would I be able to tell?
I have about 20,000 miles on my elantra gls with the stock 16" wheel.
I was measuring my tire tread and noticed that the outer groove of all 4 tires is down to 3/32 tread depth while all of the middle and inner grooves have about 5/32 to 6/32. My car was aligned about a year ago. Tires rotated every other oil change, i do oil changes at about 3,500 miles.
I drive pretty conservatively, though the street in front of my neighborhood is 50mph and has heavy traffic, so I have to take an aggressive about half the time I pull out of my neighborhood.
My Radiator fell inside the car I tried to pick it back up but its hooked on something in the bottom and I can move it. Not even sure how are why it would fall. is there some kinda of bracket that holds in place or a bolt?

View 14 RepliesMy '03 driver's side door has been opened enough, and unfortunately with force when it catches a wind gust or opens downhill, etc, that it's actually resulted in a lengthening crack in the middle of the inside door panel. There are two hinges that are fine, which actually keep the door attached to the car frame.
In between, on the higher side of the inside of the door, there's a 'stopper' bolted to the door, with a bracket 'inside' the door. That's where the force of the door opening is applied to the door itself, and where the crack has appeared. It's already a good 4-6 inches long, and presumably will keep going.
In my head, the options seem to be:
-wait for the stopper to fully rip a piece of the door off, at which point the door will open all the way into the car itself.
-attempt a small scale weld 'in place' with a small overlay strip across the crack.
-pull the door all the way apart to where the welder felt more comfortable doing a solid repair job.
-find a replacement door altogether.
My 18 inch Conti Contacts have approximately 20,000 miles on them. The tires are not wearing evenly and have excessive wear on the outside portion of the tires. The dealer says that they spoke with VW and VW says that it is "normal" for the tires to wear this way because of the "turning radius" of the vehicle. I smell BS. I don't know much about this subject but it would seem to me that the tires should wear somewhat evenly if the vehicle is balanced and aligned properly.
View 6 RepliesI have a 2010 fx 4 cew cab that has a 2" lift on it. I am new to the truck scene, but my wife has always wanted a big truck. I have pro comp tires that are 35 X 12.50X20 LT. They are the Pro Comp Xtreme A/T. The truck is driven evry once in a while and it is never off road. The issue I am having is that the tire wear is really bad and uneven in the front. It has been aligned 3 times in one year and the balance has been checked. I had the lift kit done at the dealership and they are saying this is normal and that the wear is due to not rotating the tires every 3000 miles. If the truck was driven every day I would understand but it only has 10,000 miles on it. Is this normal? The wear looks like a shock could be bad but they have already replaced the shocks about 3 moths after i purchased the truck.
