Lexus SC430 :: 2003 - Swapping Out Stock Head Unit
Nov 2, 2010
I like the sound of my ML system in my 2003 SC430, but I hate the lack of features...
Specifically iPod integration, Bluetooth hands-free and Sat radio. Is there any way to swap out my stock Mark Levinson head unit with one that would do the above?

I recently joined the Lexus club purchasing a GS300, and I am very excited. I was thinking about swapping out the head unit, for something a little more modern, like an Apple CarPlay system. As I already have the Mark Levinson system in the car, if I were to change the head unit, would the Mark Levinson system be ruined or unusable, or would the new head unit integrate into the system. I ideally want to keep the ML system in tact, but have a more updated head unit...

I have an 02 f150 xl, I'm taking the stock head unit out and replacing it with a Pioneer 1900. I didn't buy a connector I'm just splicing the wires together, I know I shouldn't do it that way but it's to late now, what my problem is, there are three ground wires coming from the truck and the new head unit only has one ground, I just looked wiring diagrams up for both head units and that got pretty much everything done, just there are two speaker ground wires that are black and green, and then a regular black ground wire, I'm not sure if I should connect them all together or cap them separately, because I connected everything up and the head unit wouldn't turn on...

So I got some burned cds stuck in the unit just like everyone said would happen. the unit was full with 6 disks at the time. i removed the unit, removed the cds from the unit, and reinstalled it. once reinstalled i disconnected the battery for 20 minutes to clear any memory and when i tried to use the changer once more the error code 3 returned and the unit still reads full. I am guessing I was supposed to manually move the trays back to the empty position prior to reassembly because I dont hear them attempting to move at all. Even after I cleared the memory the car never read the disc trays as empty so that's my best guess.

Where is the fuse located for our OEM radio head unit? I have no power coming in for the head unit and hopefully it's just a blown fuse!

What harnesses or adapters do I need to get my some aftermarket speakers plus my aftermarket subwoofer hooked up. I have a 4 channel for the speakers and a mono for the subwoofer.
Trying to figure out whether to go this route or buy the wiring harnesses and dash kit needed for my old pioneer d3 double din HU and hooking up RCA's that way.

My 2009 Sonata GLS stock sat radio, dvd head unit stopped working. Appears no power to it, won't light up or anything? Looked at the fuse shows OK? The radio / dvd fuse circuit, shows the led-digital clock is also on same circuit. The clock is working fine. I can not find any of the radio's wiring loose or disconnected. Has my radio gone bad already? Car has ~ 14,300 mi on it.

Within the week the head unit has started to glitch out. Doesn't seem to be any real issues with any usability- at least yet. I have a 2011 Prius II.

Have a 2012 E350 with the single disc CD & 6 speakers. For you guys who have replaced your stock head unit, what inputs or connections are available on the back of the stock unit? I'd really like to be able to control the volume with a remote, either wired or wireless.

How much effort is this? Couldn't find a DIY.
Basically, my navigation won't read the disk anymore and I'm looking at replacing it with a used one.

I want to get a simple iphone plug to rca converter and just tap into input in the back of those units if we have them.

The air-con unit has caused the car to vibrate (only way to describe it) quite badly.
It started in January (which is winter in the UK) so I switched it off and it stopped - hence my diagnosis that it was the ACU at fault.
As spring approached and the temperature started to rise, I put it back on and it appeared to work fine no vibration and plenty of cool air.
Occasionally (one or twice over many 1000's of miles) it would do it, but cycle it off/on and it went.
I figured it was probably the serpentine belt that needed replacing - which happened on the service last month, they advised it was worn so I was right to replace.
Yesterday the vibration came back with a vengeance, and my suspicion is that perhaps the belt-tensioner should also have been replaced as these have a limited life so was slipping due to the extra load of a hot day and me switching the ACU on.
A small edit after submitting - I'm assuming it HAS an automatic belt tensioner that is based on some spring mechanism - can't believe you'd have to adjust these manually?

Is there any way to replace the stock nav system with something that is easier to use and more up to date and works? I did upgrade the disc and it's still a pain to use. My Iphone does a much better job, is easier to use. Also can upgrading the stock suspension on a 2003 SC 430, I got it a couple of months ago with 24000 miles but would like better handling but would like to keep the ride decent.

On occasion the navigation unit will not let me enter a new address. I have the car turned on, in park, and the screen has the address option grayed out. It will let me enter previous destinations but not new addresses. This has been occurring more frequently recently. If I drive for a half hour or so,the address then becomes available again (sometimes it does not). It is not the disk, I have tried a new one with the same results.

Well I cracked the clear plastic lens on the AC control unil while removing it to replace the factory radio. Where I can just get the minimal parts to fix this? Seems all I can find online thus far is only replacement of basically the whole control unit.

I picked up a 1999 F-250 Super Duty with the extended cab (not the full crew cab), and have been working on restoring, upgrading, and improving it. It is in great mechanical shape, but needed cosmetic work, replacement of the mirrors and some lenses, and updating to modern tech. I've got all the key wiring in place to install a new in-dash PC head unit with backup camera and a new sub and amp to improve the audio. The problem I'm working on right now is that the head unit is a bit too deep for the double-din slot in the dash.
I could let it stick out 1.5-2" or so and trim it out, but to be honest, I'm not keen on that at all. I think it looks terrible, and I've gone to a ton of trouble already for a nice clean, sleek install and would like to keep it that way.
I've also looked and whether the screen might be divorced from the main body, or the chassis shortened, but neither of those is going to work.
I've considered that there may be someone who makes custom dashes that stick out further for situations like this, effectively deepening the stereo pocket by adding space at the front. If there is though, I can't find them.
Finally, and what seems the most likely, is that I would need to modify/reroute the air duct, and notch out the steel tube at the back of the cavity, to gain an extra 2-3" of depth.

2002 F250 diesel ... I found these two plastic pieces yesterday on the floor near the 4X4 shifter. I noticed the other day when i step on the brake the rear view camera in the head unit comes on, so i am thinking they are either a part of the brake switch on the pedal assembly, or something to do with the shift tube.

Yesterday everything worked. This morning nothing. Screen seems to be functioning but no sound comes through the speakers. No sound from radio, CD, nav, blue tooth, nothing. Mute is not on, checked that. When I got to work, I shut the car off, took out the key and re-started hoping it would reboot or something but no.
