I put brand new pads on my 2003 sc430 about 6 months ago, and have noticed this rubbing sound coming from all 4 tires. It is very noticeable and annoying. I'm wondering if I should have put brand new rotors on the car while I was changing the pads. I did not here this noise prior to changing the pads.

I have a lot of fun and satisfaction working on my GX and noticed that the rear brake pads soon will need to be replaced. I know how to take off the front rotors by putting some DW-40 and using a rubber mallet to get them off. However because of the parking brake, I don't know how to get the rotor out so I can resurface it, which at this point don't look that bad anyway. How to get the rear rotors off? I have to do my wife's ES350 too so I figure I'll do mine first then hers.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2005 SC that was passed down from my mom, so don't know that much about it.
Last week it overheated with steam coming out of the front area. . . . shop said my radiator had a crack, but that i probably overheated the engine and that they would need to rework it all . . . the car is still at their shop, but was wondering if i am better off just getting rid of this one or buying another one.
I asked them for a cost est. they said that they would have to open up the engine before they could tell me that, but want to charge me to do that.
Here's the deal:
1. My 2002 SC430 with 23,000 miles on it is making a low rubbing noise when slowing down, with a slight vibration, not severe enough, but it is annoying and frankly surprising on this car. The dealer tells me it's because the brakes have "glaze" on them, and short of a new brake job, you can jam on the brakes to clear or loosen some of this and reduce the noise. ( I live in the desert so I'm sure I could find a deserted stretch or road for this craziness...) The dealer reports the brakes have 70 - 80 percent life on them and I don't need a brake job.
2. Power steering. I thought this particular car was just hard to steer, but even the tech at the dealer commented it's like I have no power steering. I test drove two other cars, and the steering is markedly lighter on the other two SC430's I drove. (2002 and 2005) Dealer can't seem to find an explanation, but I have to drive this car with two hands around town... I know this is not the way this car was intended to feel.
I don't believe the car changed that much from the 2002 model so as to affect the steering. BTW, I'm using stock tires, not run flat, 4 months old. And the steering is stiff at idle anyway, regardless of tires. The first SC I drove, which sealed the decision to buy one, was so quiet I didn't know the engine was running, easy to steer, and smooth.
ok, here's the story about my brake change on a 2012 elantra GLS. I changed my pads and rotors myself, he has done many brake jobs with little to no problems over he years. anyway, changed them on all four wheels and now on the drivers side there is a slight noise that happens sometimes. The noise happens once very rotation of the tire/rotor, not a constant noise. it sounds almost like the pads are hitting the rotor at a certain point and making a grind noise. the brakes seems to function properly and the noise happens only when rolling at slow speeds or when accelerating from a stop.
I have done everything properly, even used some caliper glue to hold the pads against the caliper. what my question is, is there anyway that the rotor is warped from the manufacturer? it sounds like it is warped and the pads hit it once every rotation. I have opened them up 3 times now to make sure everything is proper, even put it in drive jacked up with no wheel on it to see if its running smooth, of course it wont make the noise when jacked up.
Got an '02 here. This noise started to appear recently. When I turn the key to put electricity on (without starting the car), I hear this electric motor-like sound, similar to power window sound, coming thru the dash area, and it can also be heard outside the car coming from somewhere in or near the engine compartment or in front of the dash/windshield area. Could this be one of the servo that operates the AC vents? or its something else?
View 1 RepliesMy 2006 AWD RX330 rotors were starting to get warped so I changed them out along with new pads. I put new rotors in the front and new pads all around. Everything went smoothly other than getting the bottom rear slider pins to go back in easily.
Well it's been a week now and I noticed that if I press on the brakes at low speeds say 20-30 mph with a decent amount of pressure nothing too crazy there is a rubbing/pulsing noise right before i stop completely. It doesn't happen right when I apply the brake but right before the stop. It kind of sounds like the ABS is kicking in but i don't feel it in the pedal like you do for ABS or I don't hear the electrical noise you hear from ABS.
I am wanting to change my rear brake pads and . Looking for step by step instructions or photos.
View 1 RepliesOver the past year I have been hearing a noise coming from the rear of the car. It seems to happen when the car is running and almost sounds like the fuel pump priming itself, but it happens when the car is running. So I don't think it would be that.
It doesn't happen all the time, it might but I miss it due to the loud levels I tend to listen to the stereo at.
My other thought is that it might be from the one of the top motors to raise and lower the roof.
I have a 2003 Honda Civic coupe that is making a interesting noise. When making a hard left turn with some speed, an intermittant rubbing noise is coming from the rear right tire and wheel. I cannot duplicate that noise turng right at any speed.
One more fact, the right rear and left front tires lose 5-10 psi of air a week. They were filled yesterday, so they should be around 30 psi still (door sticker recommendation). New tires put on last summer by previous owner- not sure if they were losing air at that rate before the new treads or not.
I plan on buying a used wheels to replace current ones to hopefully remedy the losing air situation!
Just got my 2013 RX 350 CPO and been driving it for 2 weeks without any problem. But today when I was trying to steer my wheel all the way to the left (car was parked) and I heard rubbing noise coming from wheel base. It only happens when making hard left steering not right.
I read online and seems like it's a common problem for wheel bearing for Lexus cars.
Just got out of the dealer they said they recommend front brake change. They quoted me for ~730 just for Rotors/Pads/labor on the front (I am going to shop around).
I tried search Golf R Brakes info prior to posting but alot of the searches are for people buying Golf R brakes for Gti's.
1) Do I need to Replace Both Rotors and Pad at the Same time?
2) Currently Car is still stock and see's no tracks, the most car would see in the next 2 yrs would probably be stg 2+ if that. Would OEM Rotors + OEM pads be sufficient? or should i upgrade pads? Below is listing i found with some different pads options.

3) Car is currently a 47.5k miles with oem brakes, should i just replace rears as well? even though dealer did not recommend?
4) SS Brake Lines, should i get them?
I get a rubbing sound in my steering column when it retracts when the key turns off. Only does it a couple times a year.
View 7 RepliesI have a beep-beep-beep noise which is coming (I think) from behind the right side of the dashboard, and it occurs every minute.
I had this noise a couple of years ago, and it went away. Now it comes on every time I start up, and there are no indicator lights or gauge problems. I don't have to have the car in motion either.
I had the dealer disable the run-flat computer about 5 years ago, so I don't see how it could be that.
Today was the first time I was in my RX without the radio since I bought it. I have a 2011 RX CPO with 65000kms on the odometer.
When the vehicle is idling there is a tick-tick noise coming from the engine area that does not go away. I initially thought this noise was due to it being 0 Degree C but the noise continued for the duration of my 45 minute drive. Later in the day the noise was consistent was did not silence.
Recently purchased a 2002 sc430 . After an hour of driving I began to hear a buzzing or humming coming from the backseat on the passenger side . Sounds almost like a fan. Car drives just fine but the buzzing is driving me nuts.
View 3 RepliesExperienced a rattle coming from the console area... a week or two ago I was driving home from work and I heard a "slight" rattle noise.. it sounded as if it was coming from the dash area... This concerned me because when I first bought my car about 18 months or so ago, there was a very annoying squeak in the dash when the temp dropped below 50 degrees... I took it back to the dealer several times for that squeak, and finally a young tech there figured out the problem and fixed it.. still quiet to this day... so anyway I'm hearing this very faint rattle sound ( on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the loudest, this would be a 2 or a 3 ) and it appears to be from the dash area...
I keep feeling around and putting pressure on different parts of the dash with no luck... then quite by accident I laid my hand across the counsel and as soon as my fingers pressed up against the round that selects eco / normal / or sport, the rattle stopped... removed my hand, rattle started again, just put one finger on the round and the rattle stopped...
So I had the car into the dealership for oil and filter change saturday and I saw that same tech that fixed my squeak last year... told him about the issue and while the car was in the shop he pulled the console.. said he couldn't find anything really wrong except that some of the clips were not lined up.. he didn't know if it would work but he said he insulated all the clips and a few other areas inside the console with some thick felt... charged me nothing... zero.... Don't know if the problem is permanently fixed, but I have not heard it in the two days since...
I have developed a sounds that sounds like metal on metal. Not a grinding but more of a "swish swish swish" light metal rubbing when the truck has been running a mile or two. I can barely hear it over the radio but its very noticeable when the window is down. It is not affected by the pressing the brakes and it gets louder and faster in direct portion to speed. It will occasionally leave and start right back up. I touched the front rim around the hub and it was hotter than I wanted to hold onto. It didn't burn but it was hot. It was 105 degrees that day. Here is what I have done.
I replaced that front hub in 2010 and probably have 50K miles on it. I did the 3-9 test and there was no noticeable play. I spun the hub and while it seems to spin ok it does seem a little dry.... I will pull it tomorrow and see what it looks like.
I pulled the calipers off and the brakes pads are at half way and there is no burnt smell. I spun the rotor and it seemed flat and straight. I do have a small tiny lip all the way around them on both sides but I figured that's normal with 265K. I pulled the pins and they were dry but they didn't seem to be sticking. I cleaned them up with the boots and am going to replace them when I get some brake grease tomorrow. I have not looked real hard at the caliper but I plan on pressing that with a C-Clamp tomorrow to check it. Since the rotors and pads looked OK, I assumed there was not a stuck caliper although haven't ruled it out. The axle behind the hub seem to spin freely before I removed all this stuff and the hubs are not locked.
I think I covered it all .. I also thought it could be a rock or stick but nothing came out of my caliper or rotor when I took them off ..
Take a look at the video I recorded with my phone and you can hear a thumping or clunking noise coming from the rear driver side tire. The phone was held upside down sorry!. I'm thinking it's either the brake pads or wheel bearing?
Please try to ignore the wind noises. = Just want some idea so when I take it to a mechanic it would be easier to identify the problem. [URL] ....
So I just installed a fresh 4.6 long-block in my '98 4x4 xlt and I have a noise coming from the manifold area. Thought it was possibly valves or timing chain. Took it to dealer and they diagnosed it as the Intake Manifold Runner Control. Never heard of it!!! Problem is, I can't find that part for this motor. Is it inside the intake? Do I have to replace the whole intake? Dealer didn't tell me, once I said I would do the work myself.
View 3 RepliesI'm working on a 2007 Camry and I had the wheel bearings pressed in & out at a shop. I put everything back together but the driver side rotor is rubbing against the caliper bracket. And there is no air gap between the rotor and bracket so it can spin freely without rubbing. The passenger side is fine, there is a little air gap so the rotor can move freely without rubbing. I don't understand why the driver side rotor is rubbing against the caliper? I checked everything over, the pads and rotor are the correct ones. I also took the pass side caliper bracket and installed it on the driver side and same thing, the rotor still rubs against the bracket.
