I have a 430sc 2002. I have been noticing lately that it seems to be loose on bumps on the road in town. On the highway it is still very smooth. I was thinking about taking it to a alignment shop and having the bushings checked. Is there anything else I should get checked?

View 14 RepliesI've got this irritating squeal sound when I ride over speed bumps, already for a few years. Every time I go to the dealer, they try to fix it, though never fixed it completely. Once they added some kind of lubrication, another time they changed one of the suspension parts. However I still have the issue.

I recently did a brake job on an 02 Explorer, consisted of new pads and rotors (Rear). The Slide pins were fine and the piston was not frozen in the calipers.
Shortly after the Explorer will occasionally make this "thump...thump....thump..." feeling/sound.
It is not vibration.... it feels more like passing over small bumps in the road.
It is most consistent from 30-50mph, but I have felt it from 20-65.
It is more prominent on decel, but you can feel it on accel as well.
It makes no difference if you touch the brakes or not, or if you push the clutch in and/or take it out of gear.
Speed does not seem to effect the timing of the "thumps" it appears to be the same from 20-60mph. I'm at a loss...
Looks like my struts and springs are getting old that they're making squeaky noises over the bumps. Had a shop checked to make sure and they suggested replacing them. I've been wanting to do air ride but not a lot of good shops in town have done that before. So far by searching, most complete kits run around $4k or so without installation. Is that about right? How complicate is it to do the installation?
My second option was to purchase coilovers and put them in myself. Cheap and easy. But again, there are 4-5 brands out there? Megan, D2, BC, K-Sport, etc? I want it mildly lowered and not too bouncy. What spring rates should I get?
So, we've had our first "big" storm of the year. I say that with quotes because it was only an inch or two and some pretty serious ice.
I got the SC430 out of the driveway with a little bit of effort, but had a heck of a time trying to get it back up the driveway. It was getting stuck on the slightest bumps. As you can probably imagine, Michigan gets feet of snow, not just inches. I'm afraid if it gets stuck this easily, I won't be able to keep driving it this winter.
I'm going to try putting some sand bags in the trunk as it is my main car. But if that doesn't work, I am going to have to put her away for the winter and start driving my crappy 6-cyl 2.7L Hyundai for the winter (front wheel drive).
More lately I've been noticing that when moving slowly, if going over a bump in the road of any sort, the steering wheel seems loose and the car wants to jump to one side or another slightly.
Picture moving straight ahead, and hit a rough section of or a small pot hole, and the steering wheel will move by itself to the left or the right quite a bit. I haven't noticed anything on the highway.
What can cause that? How should I go about describing to the service advisor so that it doesn't seem trivial? Last thing I want is a steering rack or major front suspension component slowly dying right after my warranty runs out. All I know is that it has struck me as "hey this doesn't feel normal".
Am I just being overly sensitive now that my powertrain warranty has months left on the clock, or does this sound like a legitimate concern? The last few things I've had them look into at the dealership during other service visits have been returned to me as "no problem founds" and I'm starting to feel like I'm just going crazy.
After some additional googling, it seems like I'm describing something commonly called "bump steer"... how much bump steer is normal for this car with stock suspension, I don't know... all I know is that I seem to have become acutely attuned to it whereas I never noticed it before. Hopefully I don't get the "we didn't notice anything wrong" again if I mention it, and whatever it is, is covered.
One thing I cant clear is how to fix the annoying door clicking. The one bolt behind plastic cover on body side isn't a torx 40 its a bolt/philips and its tight. My 2 bolts on door side dont seem to be getting tight. The doors still clik seems to be in join in middle of door arm.
View 11 RepliesLast week when I had my car at Lexus dealership for the air bag recall, they took it upon themselves to do an inspection and came up with a few "recommendations".
The one that intrigues me is "found transmission mount worn/loose" recommend "replace transmission mount".
I will take car to my friendly local repair shop this week (never go to Lexus dealership unless it's free).
I'm no mechanic but I've been around cars for a long time and I've never heard of this before: besides the car only has 50000 miles on it.
Am I possibly being scammed or is this legit?

View 8 RepliesTwo fixes: When raising the roof, stop it halfway. It reveals a round rubber bump stop that sits against the rear parcel shelf. The bumpstop can be adjusted by rotating it. If you raise the bump stop, it sits harder against the parcel shelf and reduces movement, thereby reducing noises. Also, lubricate all roof and boot (trunk) rubbers with glycerine (glycerol).
View 12 RepliesI've got a 2012 F250 SD and when i go over some bumps in the road or even down a gravel road, the door panel on the driver side vibrates and it's noisy. Is there any way to pull the panel and add some foam padding or something to stop this? I can see the panel vibrate or heck, maybe it the whole door.
View 10 RepliesAfter having my SC430 for a few days, I recognized the problem with a lack of space for luggage during touring/road trips. I came up with the following solution:
1. Set both the drivers and passenger seat memory switch #2 to move the seat and seat back to the furthest most forward position when you hit #2, key off, hold for 2 seconds then release. Your seat will now automatically go as far forward as it can giving you ample room to access the rear seats even with the top up.
2. Purchase high quality leather "Duffle" style luggage, 18",20", 25" and place them vertically in the back seat and strap them in with the seat belt provided.
3. Press memory button #1 to return seat to your desired position and you are good to tour with at least 10 days worth of luggage capacity and keep your Lexus spare tire in the trunk which allows you to run Conti Pure Contact Grand Touring all-season tires which gives this car a much improved tide quality.

View 5 RepliesI noticed when I got my CPO 2013 GS350 that the rear view mirror has some "give" - it feels a little loosely attached to the windshield and there is some play before the adjustment actually starts to engage. It also rattles sometimes with road vibration as a result. Is this the usual for GS350 or has mine come loose?
I noticed when I got an ES loaner vehicle that the mirror was firmly attached to the windshield.
After a rough winter here in NJ there are a ton of pot holes and I think I may have jolted loose the rear view mirror. It now shakes so bad I can't even look at it. It makes me dizzy. It seems like it is loose where it connects to the windshield, not where the actual mirror connects. I took off the smaller of the two covers but didn't see anything I could tighten. It also doesn't appear that the actual mirror comes apart. I have to point it away from me at night, it's like a strobe light!
View 4 RepliesI have an RX 450H and noticed that there is a squeaking sound coming from the dashboard. I looked at other posts where people were experiencing similar issues and noticed one post where someone had a GS 450H and fixed this issue by adding felt between the dashboard and the windscreen.
I would like to know whether this method works 100% and whether I can apply this method to the RX 450H. The noise becomes worse when it is cold and especially when the car is being driven over rough road surfaces and speed bumps.
I test drove the sc 430 the other day, I found it very smooth and very soft ride. I noticed that when I accelerate the car feels heavy as if it lacks the torque. Is this normal?
Also, the steering felt loose at high speeds above 60mph. Is this normal?
