Whats going on with my 2002 SC430. Every time someone (valet) puts the key in the door to unlock it, the car completely shuts down. The remote won't work. The only way to get it going again is to have the door popped open. This sets off the alarm but once the key is in the ignition and started, it's all good. What is going on and how to correct this?
View 10 RepliesWhen you close the door and the window is down, the window glass sounding like it is rattling when the door shuts? I am wondering if that is normal for 430's or if there is something missing or broken in my doors. (They both do it)
I don't really notice it while driving but it makes my skin crawl every time I shut the doors. No sound as long as the windows are up.
My navigation door quit working, tilt function also, and it's stuck open. The Nav unit works fine. Dealer is telling me thousands to replace it - but I suspect it's like the Mercedes dealer where my SL was missing a $10 clip - and they wanted to replace the dashboard... I'm hoping it can be repaired. It makes a little "ping" sound then I turn the car off, but I don't hear the door motor.
View 14 RepliesI've been trying to program the remote on 2 keys. With the sequence found online and in this forum, I did the insert/remove several times with no success. I then tried to turn the master key ON/OFF TWICE, which erases all the other remotes. Still did not program the new key, but now it seems to have affected my door lock buttons in the doors.
When I hit the lock buttons inside the car, the lock is sluggish, and I cannot repeatedly lock/unlock from the door switch. The second or third try gets a dull thud and the door lock only moves partially into the lock position.
Is it possible to reset the door locks so they again click in place with a nice, beefy motion?
A couple of weeks back out of the blue my Nav screen stopped tilting back and of course if it doesn't tilt back the door won't close. I did the Lexus Diagnosis on the Tilt and Close Switches and it turns out to be something in the 'Nav' unit. Of course Lexus doesn't sell parts for the Nav unit... just the whole thing.
Since that time I have spent way too much time on diagnosing it and I actually tried another used unit that has the same problem as mine. What I think that I have figured out is that the motors are ok but the control unit, a small circuit board within the nav unit has failed. The problem is that this unit has 2-3 IC chips on it and any way to repair this circuit board.
Any luck repairing these circuit board or am I stuck.... The I was able to retract the unit into the dash and the door opens and closes but it would be nice if it tilted as they had intended...
2002 sc 430--interior door latch cable is broken at the ball. Is it possible to (purchase and) replace just the cable or is the cable integrated with the locking mechanism, requiring replacement of the whole unit. Also, need to get just cable and/or integrated cable/lock mechanism.

A locksmith came and instead of using the tool to unlock using the unlock button, he just pulled the regular lever inside with the tool to open the door while it was locked. Since then I cannot open the driver's side door from the inside. It will open, lock and unlock fine from the outside. It is unlocked when I attempt to open it from the inside. I pull the lever and nothing happens. I have to unroll the window and open the door using the outside handle or crawl over to exit from the passenger side door.
View 4 RepliesSo my sc430 keeps giving me trouble and all the lights come on while i am driving and then it shuts off on me. I could be wrong but i think it has something to do with a iphone connection that i have. I originally thought it was the battery so i replaced that and it was running fine for a day with no issues. Then today shortly after i tried to use the iphone connector the same thing happened.
View 1 RepliesI have a sc430 and I had to change the Ecu, I've had it mapped so the keys all match and now it wants to start but it just doesn't seem to want to kick in , it turns over then just shuts down, there is a smell of petrol so I'm assuming its getting trough , I just wondered if there is any other reason for it not to start ...

View 1 RepliesI was trying to change my disk from 12.1 to 13.1 in my 2008 GS 350 AWD. so I ejected the disk via the screen, took it out and put the new one in. Started making a continuous clicking sound and then took the disk half-way out then in then totally out. Ok, maybe a bad disk so I tried to put 12.1 back in and same thing happened. Ok now I tired the original disk that came with the car. Same thing. Very odd. It worked fine up until the second I took it off.
View 14 RepliesI recently had a remote starter (AutoMate) installed in my 2008 LS460. The remote starter works great but when I open the car door the engine shuts off. I then need to restart by pressing the START button on the dashboard. Is this a safety issue or is this something that can be avoided?
View 8 RepliesI recently noticed the cover for my driver-side door lock seemed was loose and the door lock would move around a bit. Today, to my utter shock, I noticed the door lock cover was missing and it looks like I cannot see the door lock cylinder, worried that it is missing too!
Is it possible for the door lock cylinder to easily fall out of the door if the cover was loose?
I am hoping that the door lock cylinder is somehow physically connected to the door and wouldn't just fall out, perhaps it fell inside the door and I cannot see it. I haven't had a professional look at it yet, but if I am missing the door lock cylinder then I would need to purchase a new lock cylinder and have it cut to match my keys (huge spend, even with Sewell).
The images show what I am referring to, the dark image is an attempt to take a picture of the inside of the hole. The last image is a drawing of the door frame from Sewell with part numbers. Is there a chance the door lock cylinder is somewhere inside the door panel?
One thing I cant clear is how to fix the annoying door clicking. The one bolt behind plastic cover on body side isn't a torx 40 its a bolt/philips and its tight. My 2 bolts on door side dont seem to be getting tight. The doors still clik seems to be in join in middle of door arm.

Mine is 03 model btw.
Was replacing 168 bulbs tonight with led bulbs. Trunk went fine. I got a warm color that's a little whiter than stock and about twice as bright but 1/5th the power. I measured 49 ma vs 247 ma for the stock bulb. Then I went to replace the passenger door bulb. Put the led one in and it flickered on and off a few times and then went out. Figured it was a flaky loose connection. Check the contact and put the old bulb back in. Nothing. Checked the voltage at the connector. Nothing there either.
The fuse that controls that bulb has a bunch of other stuff on the same fuse which all still works, so unless there's a hidden fuse inside the door, then there's a wiring problem that just magically appeared now. I don't think there's a fancy controller. This light doesn't fade up or down and is not on a timer. It's directly controlled by the door switch and is instant on or off.
Our car was rear-ended (we had a great shop to the repairs and the car drives/looks like it did pre-accident). However, the navigation door magically stopped working now that we have the car back. The navigation screen still works fine, but the open/cose buttons will not make the door/lid open.
On other threads I have searched here, people have suggested this could be from the door being off-track (not the case here), a broken motor (could be the case), and/or a blown fuse (also could be the case).
What fuse I would need to check if it is in fact a fuse? I've looked at the fuse boxes in the engine bay (by the battery) and in the trunk, but all fuses look fine. Is there anywhere else I should look for a fuse before wasting a day at the dealer to diagnose/fix the problem?
just bought a 2002 lexus sc430 the car is nice but i have been reading in regards to the throttle lag. Any resolution for this. I've read that the apexi or blitz trottle control is an option to work with the lag.

wheel balance
wheel alignment
2 rims rerolled that were out of round
bushes and suspension all checked
moved wheel positions front to back etc
Thinking now maybe driveshaft or uni joints ? or new tires but that's an expensive exercise !!
I guess the roof needs adjustment since my driver side door won't close if the window is up all the way.
Checked the roof and found there is a larger gap on the passenger side than on the driver side. That causes the unevenness of the roof, I think.
1) Where to find a driver's lower fuse panel in cabin fuse cover/kick space left side, near brake?
2) I have a slight intermittent magic fingers kind of idle. I changed spark plugs, no diff, have been using Techron, timing belt replaced, etc.
