RX 350 (mine is 2013) produce a slight bump in revs as you decelerate moderately going from 2nd gear to 1st? It goes away after the tranny is warmed up. Wondering if it's just a result of the cold weather.
View 5 RepliesI have 142k miles on my 2005 RX330 AWD. This week I can feel the transmission slip/shudder when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear.
My local transmission guy is pretty reasonable but like most salesmen he's going to say rebuild it the entire transmission in lou of something less invasive.
On my V6 tdi , the converter bypass coupling is closed very late : generally in the third gear arround 2200rpm. In second gear i found that the transmission slip a lot.
View 1 RepliesI noticed on cold start , when I start to accelerate (usually i push down maybe 20-30% on the peddle. not WOT) i noticed when the tranny shifts from 1st to 2nd there is a sudden jerk that feels like a slip in the tranny.
you can hear and see the RPM shoot from like 3k to ~4.5k (during the shift) and back down to less than 3k on the 2nd gear.
This only happens when the engine started from a cold start and accelerating at a moderate pace. After a minute or two , i start moving from a full stop and it doesn't do it anymore. I have a 2008 model.
I have a 2005 Passat TDI with 2500 miles & this car was wrecked and I recently got it back from the body shop. Well I now have a transmission problem. When I first take off the car feels like it is in a high gear. Then the transmission will slip. I have taken the car to the local VW dealer and they have given me the following information.
-Incorrect Ratio 4th gear #Code P0736 & 17110
-Incorrect Ratio 5th gear #Code P0735 & 17118
This leaves me with two options according to VW.
1. Replace the transmission
2. Replace the computer
2005 Passat TDI? Which would be more obvious as a problem?
Recently upgraded to a 2015 DSG PP pearl white 2-door GTI. I'm really enjoying the car. It is my third GTI (MK IV, MK VI) but the first automatic. On the morning commute to work today my DSG straight up stopped working. While trying to accelerate from completely stopped at a stop light my transmission seemed to slip out of gear followed by the engine reving freely... A message appeared to "Press Brake". I had to stop my car in the middle of an intersection and then magically the transmission stuck in gear and i made it to the next stop light. Unfortunately at this light I was never able to get my car back in gear... I tried reverse as well as S mode shifting into 2nd or 3rd.
Had to get towed to the nearest dealership... at least I got to try out the carnet feature . Basically it is a glorified operator who will request a local tow truck for you. FYI.. I thought that the service would at least notify the service dept at the dealer it was being towed to (nope!). 5 hours later they gave me my car back saying that the cable between the ECU and DSG had come loose and that was the only problem.
So far the car seems to be driving like a champ again... I'm just a bit concerned as to how a cable can magically come loose and cause my car to be inoperable. The main reason I upgraded from my 2010 gti was the peace of mind that the car was going to be dependable...
A few questions... Is it feasible that a loose cable was the only issue? If so... how can a cable magically come loose after 2200 miles of driving? I could see this being an issue from the manufacturer but would think it would happen much sooner during the break in process.

Like the title says, I sometimes experience a long shift from 1st to 2nd. When the transmission is cold, it seems to shift fine from 1st to 2nd. It isn't until it is warmed up that I get a looong shift. It winds up,,,,, then it shifts. I have no problems in other gears.

The car did not come with a remote and i feel archaic without it. I have ordered the remote from amazon but the car fails to go into programming mode. One thing i noticed while watching a video was as soon as the key was in the slot (not turned) the car started beeping. Mine doesn't do that.
Also the transmission seems to slip during 3rd and 4th. The car has only 65k and has not been used much by the previous owner. I have read about an issue that is 3rd and 4th flare?? is this a very common issue? I am thinking of doing the transmission fluid change..Will this cure it or is it a mechanical issue or software?
The issue isn't present during all 3rd and 4th shifts just happens every now and then.
My '05 Highlander transmission seems to be geared wrong. When I slow down the car seems to slip into a higher gear and speed up. It is worse when the air conditioning is on.
View 30 RepliesSeems lately when driving up a long incline the Trans seems to slip back to third gear from overdrive. I watched the tach and it jumps up like it's went to another gear. But goes right back into overdrive. It will keep doing this as long as we're under load, like going up an incline. If I put it manually into 3rd and keep it there it won't do it.
We went on a long trip last summer and it kept doing it and it threw a tourque converter code. I can't remember which one tho. I did a drain and fill and it made it better but it's doing it again. We have 167,500 miles on it. I was told by Hyundai that it would be around $2800 for a rebuilt tranny. If I was to need one. Don't think the TPS would cause the shudder right? Seeing it doesn't do it when I keep it out of overdrive.
Drove the wife to work this morning. The turn off into town there was a lady stuck so I pulled over in the drifts. After putting in back in gear I had to get on it to get out of the drifts. Snow was blowing over the windshield, and I imagine throughout the engine bay.
After that it felt like it stayed in 2/3rd gear. I'd hit the pedal and it would redline and sort of accelerate jumping in and out of gears. So i slowed down to a stop. Accelerated slow and it was ok but when I got more on the pedal it would feel like it was slipping. Once I got in the driveway, she idled for about 15 mins while I shoveled out my spot. Once putting in gear again I had to rev it up for it to move.
Also reverse, had to rev it up to move it.
I just bought a 98 f150 about a month ago from someone. The guy i bought it from said the tranny had been rebuilt about 4 months prior and i have the invoice proving it. I have lately noticed a hard shift from first to second gear, all other gears shift perfectly, but on my way from work toady the tranny seemed to slightly slip out of gear(in other words the rpms didn't shoot up, just loss of power) when accelerating from a stop light, and then it seemed to catch and started shifting ok. my question is given these symptoms is it possible that i can make this tranny last a little while longer or is it about to quit? any possible causes?
View 4 Replies2010 STX with 4 speed (4r75E)... Yesterday morning when I was almost at work(20 minute drive) I went to accelerate from a stop sign and my truck acted like it was in neutral. Once the rpm's dropped to just above idle speed the transmission caught and I was able to accelerate as normal. I guess I didn't think much of it until I was coming home from work, again about 20 minutes of driving, when I was accelerating while turning left from a stop sign. Halfway through the turn my rpm's shot up to about 5000 and it was acting as if I were in neutral again. Just as before, when the rpms dropped to just above idle, the transmission reengaged and everything was normal.
I decided to take my wife's van to Walmart and grabbed a bottle of lucas oil "transmission fix". I figured it might buy me a little time before I am able to get it to a shop for diagnosis. I used a suction pump to remove approx. 24 oz. of tranny fluid through the dipstick tube. I then added the lucas oil "tranny fix" (24 oz. bottle). I inspected the fluid that I removed. It looks pretty dirty. I would say that it was a nontransparent brown color with a slight red tint. when poured onto a paper towel it still looked brown. It didn't smell burnt at all. I checked the fluid level twice before I added the lucas oil, and twice after. Both times the fluid level was at the full mark (fluid at normal operating temp, with vehicle in park after shifting through all gears).
Fast forward to today and I was able to drive from my current house to my new house(being built) which was about 10 minutes away. I had no issues at all with the transmission. after being at the new house for about an hour and a half I came back home with no issues. about 30 minutes after returning home I headed back out again to run some errands. About 15 minutes into the drive my transmission slipped again as I was making a right turn into the barber's shop parking lot. after about an hour at the barber shop I headed for home again. As before everything was fine for about the first 15 minutes until I tried to make a right turn after sitting at a red light. the transmission slipped as described before, but it did it twice this time in the same turn. Nothing happened after that within the last 5 minutes of driving home.
The slipping only seems to happen when accelerating from a dead stop or from an extremely slow speed(under 5 mph). At highway speeds the transmission down shifts and upshifts just like it always has. My truck has 78,800 miles on it and has never shown any previous signs of transmission issues other than a leaky dipstick tube that I replaced about 3 years ago.
My father had a 94 Taurus that had similar symptoms in the past and it ended up needing new clutch disks and was rebuilt. I'm hoping for that rather than a new or reman'd tranny!
I have a 2015 Lexus rx 350 it is not all wheel drive. When I put the transmission in drive or reverse I have what I would call a double engagement. It feels like it is going into gear twice. It does not slip it shifts smooth.
View 1 RepliesI have an interesting automatic transmission problem. Hot or cold makes NO difference. When the car is started, put in reverse it will work perfectly 100% of the time. When the car is started, put in Drive the transmission will slip for about 5-10 seconds before working perfectly. When the car is started, if you wait 3-5 minutes, then put it in Drive it will work perfectly.

The Owner's Manual says: If the vehicle is in danger of slipping or rolling backward when starting on an incline, or if any of the drive wheels spins, the slip indicator light flashes to indicate that the VSC/TRAC systems are operating.
Luckily, it only happened once... otherwise, I'll roll back to the dealership in the very first day I picked up my car...
2010 ES350... Was detailing interior of car, and didn't realize headlights were on. Eventually, battery drained and car would not start. Had OEM, original battery installed at the time. No dashboard lights lit prior to this.
From what I recall, shortly after replacing the battery and getting vehicle started, my slip indicator was solidly lit on dashboard. No other lights are illuminated, and vehicle appears to behave the same.
Fast forward to today, my OBD II scanner (Innova) does not pick up any current DTC's. There are readiness codes stored, but I understand that these are merely emmission related. However, there are historical codes stored which I am concerned may be possibly contributing to the dashboard light. The codes are P1604 and B2799. These appear to be related to the immobilizer system on my ES. I've tried to clear these codes, but they won't go away, so I suspect something is still tripping this. Keys are fine, just changed the FOB battery out a couple of times. I may try my second set of keys to see if it fixes this mess.
Since my OBD scanner doesn't support ABS, I'd like to see if AutoZone or something of the like can detect if there are any codes being thrown by the ABS system. Not sure if this is what is tripping the SLIP light.
My RX350 2012/13 model AWD check system and slip indicator warning light are permanently ON on the dashboard. The car is driving normal. How to clear the indications because I am very uncomfortable with it.
View 1 RepliesMy 2005 elantra 5-speed had typical clutch issues. Had a new one put in where i worked which repaired dump trucks and dumpster roll-off trucks. Got in the car and still had similar issues. I say similar because now when i start it cold, i have no 1st or 2nd..start moving in 3rd and drop into 2nd. After about 10 minutes of driving, you can chirp the tires in 1st. Could they have put gear oil that was too heavy and it needs to get warmed up? Does this sound possible? Should I change the gear oil?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2004 Toyota Camry, automatic trans, 172k miles, still in great shape and has been well cared for with standard preventative maintenance. When it's cold (<30F), the transmission will not shift out of 2nd or 3rd gear, can't tell which. It reaches about 40mph before the RPMs approach 3000, and I dare not push it harder. Let the car warm up or drive it for 5 minutes and everything is fine. This has happened the last two winters. The car runs great other than this, which means there is no apparent problem 8 months of the year. I had the transmission fluid flushed and filter changed last year thinking it may improve, but there was no change. What could be the culprit?
