Lexus RX 2010-15 :: Squealing Sound Can Be Loud At Times
Sep 15, 2015
I have been noticing a squealing sound that I believe is coming from the rear brakes. I only hear this when I back up form the garage and apply the brakes. This happens mostly when the weather is cold, and only when I first back from the garage. This sound can be loud at times. Took it to two different dealers, but they could not hear anything. Of course this only happens when I first drive the car, so no wonder they can not hear it. I have been reading about it, and it seems many people have had the same problem. Some say it is the brake pads, the rotor, etc., 2013 RX 350...

I'm the loudest Prius in CT right now. My brakes doing that loud scraping sound. Is it normal to need brakes this soon?

I have a hyundia elantra gt 03 auto at 111k. When I am at a certain speed I hear a faint squealing sound on the passenger side. It only does it only when I am on the gas between 35-45 mph. it's very faint but you can hear it if the window is down or the music is off. Could it be a belt?
I had my timing belt replaced at 95k so I don't think it would be that. I also had my serpentine belt replaced about 3 times already but every few months it starts squealing again
For example: When I pull out of my driveway in the morning and turn my steering wheel i hear a LOUD squealing and it stops after a few seconds. it only happens in the mornings when the car has been sitting all night.
Also when I run over a puddle and turn the wheel it squeals very loud for a few seconds. It sounds like that when i accelerate but its not as loud and it is constant endless i let off the gas. It does not happen at any other MPH only between 35-45 ....

I have 2013 GS350 I bought in October with 5k miles. Currently I have 14,500 miles on it today.
Every time I have a cold start on the car, When driving at low speeds and braking, it has a loud squealing noise. Once the car has been running and driving, it goes away and doesn't came back unless I park the car and get back in an hour or so later. I went to the dealer and the guy said it's "normal", said moisture gets in and needs a few minutes break apart and that's how Lexus designs their cars. Which is believe is BS.
Here is a video of the noise. This isn't as loud as I've heard it before. [URL] ....

4000 miles on my CW Golf R - zero problems until this morning. WILD, Loud sqealing, screeching metal on metal or maybe stone on metal sound coming from front passenger wheel. at first i was positive it was a pebble caught b/t the inside rotor and heat shield - i took the tire off and nothing there.. Also only really does it when I turn RIGHT.

Truck details:
2008 f350 6.4 290,000 klm
DPF and full EGR delete
K&N intake
IDP custom street tune
Loud squealing noise that happens when cold or at temp.
2000 to 2500 rpm's to 3000 rpm then it goes away
Happens only when accelerating over 50% anything under and the noise doesn't happen.
15 to 20 pounds of boost
Turbo sounds good
No codes
All plumbing looks sealed and tight
Fuel coolant res is full and clean
I'm thinking it could be the lift pump dying or having trouble supplying the fuel demand. Started after I did the cold air intake....

I have a 2000 Lexus RX300, with over 200k miles. The motor blower is making this very (at times) loud noise. To take a closer look, I removed the glove compartment to take a better look at the unit itself. I took a closer look at the blower motor itself and it looks like the top piece of the cone is cracked a little. This is where the little clamp ring is located on the tip of the cone. The noise is definitely coming from this area. I was going to just replace it, but could there be anything wrong with maybe one of the servo motors as well (Airmax or Mode)? It seems that at times (out side of the main noise) the air is not being distributed properly.

Not sure if this is a normal characteristics of our Fsport brakes, but when I am in reverse and I apply the brakes I hear a squealing sound. Is that normal? By the way my car just hit 20k miles

What would cause my Lexi to squeal, in a high pitch fashion, while she is running. The rapidness does not change with acceleration/ deceleration. The brake pads are also squeaking- but the new squeal is with no brakes being applied. I had a mechanic suggest a total transmission rebuild- idk if I trust that.

2010 Prius making knocking sounds. Not exactly the "death rattle" that sometimes happens when you first start the car.
* While driving, the sound reminds me of the Raptors in Jurassic World.
See example videos:
Knocking at idle (Knocking Noise starts at ~19 seconds into the video):
==========================================================
Knocking while driving: (Good examples at ~24 seconds into the video):

Knocking while driving with Torque OBD2 Monitors: (Noticeable example starts at ~28 seconds into the video):

The car has over 300K miles and the problem started a few months back. At first the sound only occurred while driving under certain load conditions.
The problem would occur at intermittent times. Normally at low speeds with heavy loads (going up hill with low to medium acceleration). Also occurring for a short time when letting off the accelerator. Never occurring at moderate to heavy acceleration. Never at idle. Recently the shaking / raptor noise started to occur while idling.
* This problem is now easily created at idle each and every time the HV battery drops below 2 bars and requires charging. The engine change is immediate and starts and stops in sync with the extra load of the HV battery charge cycle.
Placing the car in the maintenance mode, the car will start and idle normally then immediately start and stop the knocking when it switches from HV charging to non-charging mode. There are no Check Engine light. Things I've done to troubleshoot the problem:
* Swapped the following parts with another working 2010 Prius.
** Coils and spark plugs
** VVT solenoid
** Cam Sensor
** EGR Valve Control
** Fuel Injectors
** MAF Sensor
** MAP Sensor
** Evap Control Valve
* Cleaned the intake manifold (It was full of carbon)
(This was done about a month before this problem started to intermittently appear). Prior to cleaning the intake manifold the car was shaking and misfiring under certain high torque condition and generating a P0304 check engine code). Once I cleaned the intake manifold the problem was fixed. I had no more check engine incidences and the shake was gone.

Had our '13 RX350 into the Toyota dealer this morning for oil change and brake fluid flush (30k service).
The service advisor was trying to get my wife to agree to let them "remove condensation to avoid mildew buildup in the air conditioner."
I'll admit that our A/C does tend to smell at times (I did just change the cabin air filter as part of the 30k service that I performed myself), but I did tell my wife to push back on this recommended service until I could investigate further.

We took my wife's '08 ML320 CDI (diesel) to Santa Fe for a ski trip. On the way there my 'Check oil" indicator came on. I put a quart in it and drove on. Sunday came and I was getting ready to drive back home. It was about 23 degrees outside and I had parked the car outside. I checked the oil again and it was in the low side of the dipstick so I put in another quart for the long drive home. On the way home my navigation command console kept rebooting, check oil came on several times, and there was a message telling me to drive straight to the dealer for repairs. That was a scary experience. I kept checking the oil but it was on the high end of the dipstick. I am going to put the car in for service tomorrow as I have extended warranty on it. I believe the sensors in the car was acting up because of extreme cold weathers. I have been monitoring the Xbimmer forums and new X5's are experiencing the similar symptoms. I am so glad my 14 GX will be arriving in a few days. Can't wait to ditch this car.

I've had my 2015 GX 460 since April 18th. Since I've had it the navigation screen has frozen on me 5 times with 830 miles on it.
Every time it froze on me all the center console buttons will not work. The Audio, Nav, Climate & Home button's DO NOT WORK! Also the buttons on the steering wheels won't work as well. The only time I can get the navigation to unfreeze is by shutting off the car.
The 5th time it froze I held down the "Power/Vol" button down and the navigation screen turn black and restarted itself while the vehicle was in motion.

I have a 2010 LEXUS RX350. I followed the instructions to reset the tire low pressure warning light. It blinked three times but did not stay off. I have 34psi in each tire including the spare. Can the sensors in the valves be checked to see if one of them is bad?

So basically- off and on for the past month or so -(but increasingly so) my kia has been making a very loud squealing sound whenever the ac is on (it would immediately stop as soon as the ac was turned off, no delay). I know I shouldn't have ignored it for so long- but now the ac has stopped working, no more squealing. Is this likely the serpentine belt or a pulley or something else? I will be taking it to the shop in the next few days...

I have 1,600 miles on my elantra and this sound just started. On initial starting, when the engine is cold, there's this loud low pitch then high pitch sound. It only lasts for 1.5 seconds but it's loud. What could it be?

About a yr ago I bought a 2010 Prius with about 36,000 miles on it. Now I'm just about to crack 50,000. Late into the winter I began hearing this sound and thought it was odd. I figured it had something to do with the fact that it was winter and the engine/battery were working together to warm the car up as well as charge the battery. I took it to Toyota this past week and of course the "Service Experts" claimed this was "normal" as one of the managers owns a prius and claims they all do this. I know this to be false due to having owned one for a year now as well as reading up on a lot of the great info poster in here. Now in the defense of the mechanic that day, my battery was pretty well charged. The sound isnt nearly as harsh when the battery stays at or around half way charged.
Today while doing some cleaning inside my car i left the air on. As a result my battery drained low enough for the battery to begin charging. This brought on that miserable sound that continues to get louder and more noticeable with time.

I turned off the engine and I get a whirring sound, quite loud, that seems to be coming from the top of the engine around where the injectors are.

I have recently started to hear (at frequent intervals) a loud buzzing sound that can best be described as a phone vibrating/buzzing while its on a table. The sound happens every few minutes and is pretty annoying. It seems to be coming from around the navigation area or glove compartment - i cant pinpoint it. I turned off the radio and AC and the sound is still present. My Navigation Wood cover has been STUCK for a few months (doesn't come out and shut nor tilt) but not sure if that is the cause here. What can be causing this sound?

It just happened yesterday on the freeway, as I hit a small bump. Need to mention this stretch of freeway has those extremely annoying ridges that make everything rattle inside the car, besides the deafening tire howling. But after they're gone, all used to be well. Yesterday, after said bump, this very loud noise behind the center air vents started all of a sudden. It increased with speed.
Sounded like a motor turning. Thought it was the NAV motor (which I never use), but opened it and closed it, and it functioned well. Tried the motor for the stereo cover, and also worked fine. When the motors were operating the sound persisted. The noise disappeared below 50 mph. And not even in broken pavement was present. After speeding above 50 again, now in smooth pavement, it was back. I guess it's there to stay... until 'killed'.
I HATE dealers going on a fishing expedition in my cars, so prefer to know what the heck is causing it, and preferably do it myself (don't trust the only dealer in town). I'll try to tackle it myself, but no way I can live with that noise, so a trip to the dealer seems almost certain, as I don't have a service manual yet to get behind the dash.
