Glove box rattle on the 3rd gen RX. Mine makes a slight noise over very rough pavement. It seems to make noise at the latch, so a felt is probably not going to work.
View 2 RepliesWhen I drive over quick choppy bumps in pavement I get a rattle in the rear of the suspension, but only when the bump is on one side. When the bump is long and activates both rear wheels, like a speed bump or a large road crack I don't get the rattle.
The sound seems to be worse on the right side and I can't really figure it out. Anything specific I should look out for?
Our 2012 SE has an intermittent rattle somewhere in the rear of the Tiguan when riding on even moderately rough pavement. Ultimately I'll have to crawl around back there while my wife drives up and down a rough road to locate the rattle, I guess, What was the source of the rattle.
View 16 RepliesSwapped for Warn standard hubs a few months back when the ESOF's turned out to be trashed.
Since then, I've noticed a rattle coming from the hubs when driving over rough or broken pavement. I've checked the outer caps and they're good and snug, proper amount of grease inside, and the hub itself is completely secure.
Do aftermarket hubs have tis issue? It's not critical, but on cooler evenings with the windows down it sound like a rattle trap unless the roads are in good shape. More of a pet peeve I suppose, but still curious.
My 2010 IV has some kind of rattle/vibration in the upper glovebox. You can only hear it when taking off from a stop or accelerating at low speed.

View 7 RepliesI've had the GX for a few months now and love it. Over the past couple of weeks I've started to notice a rattle coming from the glove compartment. Its not something inside as i can get it to stop if I apply a little pressure. How to fix other than some weather stripping? I have it in for the 70k maintenance next week and may try to see if they will fix it under CPO warranty.

View 14 RepliesI am on my third RX now with my 2014 RX350. Previous to this car I had a 2007 RX400H which I loved. I find this new car much noisier when on pavement than my RX400H. Noticed the interior noise on the 2014 to be quite loud. I compared to my wifes Mercedes ML350 also a 2014 too and it's much louder.
View 10 RepliesI picked up my 460 a couple of months ago with 26K miles (2013 base model), and I have noticed on cooler mornings a buzzing sound coming from the glove box area.
The odd thing is that the volume of the sound is related to how hard I am accelerating (step on it harder, it gets louder).
My first thought was that it was climate control related (seems to only happen on mornings below 60 degrees - cold for California SF bay area), but turning that off while the sound is happening makes no difference. Also not part of the sound system.
The sound itself goes away after about 1 mile of driving (I assume the engine has warmed up enough by then?), and never happens in the afternoon, or if it is a warmer morning.
2007 Touareg with 19",V6, with 10,700 miles
Problem: Noise or rattle in engine compartment, at low speed (less than 25miles/hour) on uneven pavement (not potholes). Can be replicated over and over.
The dealer acknowledge the noise and has tightened all suspension parts, greased all joints, replace front-right shock and bushings (for some reason the noise is more prevalent on Right side), put some sort of tool with sensors in different areas of the chassis to "hear" noise differences while driving to determine the culprit.
Description: To me, the noise sounds like there is something lose in either the engine compartment or the area where the wipers are located. Sort of like if there was something (plastic maybe) hitting the chassis (only at slow speeds - I cannot hear it when driving faster I guess because of engine and road noise). I have not been able to figure it out.
The noise was present only on another 2007 with 8K miles.
I have a 2011 RX350 and recently noticed rattling sound coming from inside the glove compartment.
I think it comes from the plastic cover of the aircon filter at the back of the glove compartment. This cover seems bit loose even when installed back properly and the vibration (especially when driving over uneven roads) is causing the rattling sound.
I know it's a minor problem but the rattling sound can get irritating at times. My temporary fix is to push back the heavy owner's manual on that cover to prevent vibration.
I have a 2012 Tig S. I hear a rattle coming from under dash by steering wheel. It happens over rough pavement. Had it at the dealer, they replaced the sway bar linkage. The noise is still there. Service rep. says its normal. I drove another new Tig and it felt tight. I only have 12000 miles on it. Really like my Tig.
View 9 RepliesMy 14 C2 has this persistent rattle from the glove box hinge. It's that single plastic hinge extender for smoothly opening the glove box. I've taken it out and re-settled it into the box socket but the rattle is starting again when going over bumps... Is it just mine?

View 2 RepliesUpon noticing some squeaking noise when my car hits particularly rough pavement I asked my mechanic to take a look. He informed me that my front lower control arm bushings have shifted, the right one some, and the left just a hair. The car was involved in an accident some years back and about two years ago I ran it into a curb bad enough to shift my steering wheel about 10-15 degrees out of position.
According to the mechanic, it its not a bad problem currently, drivability is not at all affected, but it could be a potential issue in the future. However, because I just identified the problem, I don't know if it is recent or has been there all along for the last 5 years (just inherited the car from my dad a few months ago). For the moment, its wait and see if it gets any worse.
So I say, OK, whats it take to correct it, just for future reference. This is when I find out that the 02 Camry, for some insane reason, has control arm bushings that are not replaceable without replacing the entire control arm. And if that wasn't bad enough, the control arms cannot be removed without lifting or removing the engine AND transmission!?
I noticed that my sunroof creaks slightly when going over rough pavement when closed. I can duplicate the noise by pushing up on the closed sunroof with my fist. It's not loud at all but with the radio off and at lower speeds I can hear it.

The following day, my dealer said they called Toyota and created a case about this. Toyota responded saying they heard about this and the possible root cause is the Motor Mounts on the Prius. They will be sending parts (date is still unknown) to fix the issue. :rockon:
I specifically asked if there is any damage to the engine and they said absolutely not and there is nothing wrong internally with the car. This also makes kinda sense because if I press the accelerator to the ground when it starts up, the knock doesn't appear. It also works if I put the car into D and drive away.

Just noticed a rattle above my head when temp drops below 60, only on certain rough, washboard surfaces. I am running 44/42 PSI, so I know what I am getting into. I have no intention to fix the rattle other than cranking up the radio. I know when cars age, they eventually develop more rattles. Question is, when left alone, do rattles do any long term harm? As in loosing something else and create a new rattle, or get worse.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2012 Subaru Forester with 27,000 miles on it. It has a rattle that started out in the glovebox area, and has migrated to areas around the dash, center console, liner by the sunroof control etc...I have had the car in the shop 5+ times, the last time being a week and a half. Everyone is baffled by this rattle. It seems to come and go. The glovebox liner was replaced, and other areas insulated, yet it still rattles, although it is not consistent.
