Experienced excessive road noise with RX350? I have a 2014 with Dunlop tires, and on certain types of asphalt roads the road noise is incredibly high --- on other types it is unnoticeable. I'm thinking it might be the tires, but I'm not certain.

There's seems to be a lot "road noise" that's transmitted back into the cabin, like driving over expansion joints on blacktop or rough road surface, is this normal?
I drove a 2000 RX300 for 100,000 miles and don't remember it being this noisy. Interior noise is great and quiet.
I have a 2008 RX350 AWD with only 500 miles on it so far and I am starting to get concerned about what seems to be excessive slipping or a delay in response in the trans. Under normal forward driving the trans seems to shift very smooth. The problem occurs under situations where I am coming to a near stop, basically coasting, and then have to accelerate again to continue forward. This could be in a slow moving traffic type situation or when maneuvering through a parking lot. When I try to execute a small increase in speed the engine revs but the trans doesn't respond.
It's as though it's in neutral and unable to decide which gear it should be in. After a 2 to as long as a 5 second delay it finally engages and moves forward. The condition is even worse if I am heading into a slight incline. Once it is engaged everything is fine and the subsequent shifts are very smooth. When starting from a complete stop it works perfectly. I've never had a transmission slip this much in any vehicle. There was one situation where I was almost broadsided because the RX delayed in moving forward.
I realize this is a subjective call but I am trying to determine what level of slipping in the trans is considered normal under the conditions I've described. I have searched and read past threads about issues with the earlier model years but I thought they were resolved by now. I haven't taken the RX in for service yet but I fear I will get the standard - everything is working as designed - answer from my dealership.
RX Owner- Experiencing excessive wind noise? When I drive above 60 MPH the wind noise is very noticeable. I've owned numerous cars and SUVs in my life and this is the only vehicle were I have to turn up the radio when I exceed 60 MPH.
View 14 RepliesBought a brand new 2012 Prius in California - Power Toyota in Irvine. It was heavily raining so did not test drive. Package 3. Next day noticed that there was excessive road feel and buzzing like vibration.
Took the car in and they noticed it too. Changed Goodyears to Yokohoma, checked suspension and tire pressure. Issue did not go away. It is subtle but constant.
Dealership said there is nothing wrong with the car and every car drives differently. Offered to change car with me taking a hit of 5000 dollars.
It is like driving on a stone like rough surface with a buzz like vibration.
Yesterday, I rode in my son's 9-month old 2006 v8 (w/11k miles) and noticed excessive road noise, seemingly from the right front wheel area -- far more than I'm used to hearing in my 07's. It gets worse with speed up to 55mph, then gets better above 55mph. He has done some light off roading; I'm wondering if he has mess-up something, as it sounds like something is rubbing (or as if the wheels were worn to the cord and you are riding on serrated pavement). He plays his music so loud, he has not noticed any problem, nor did the dealer during the 5k-mile or 10k-mile scheduled maintenance.

Seems as though it can be worse depending on the surface. Comparing the B7 to the wife's Q5 is painful. Heck, even my MKVI GTI was silent compared to this. What do you all is a good fix?
Tires? If so, what would be a good upgrade? The P Zero Neros on the GTI seemed pretty good. I'm new to car tires. Long time Jeeper. Dynamite under all carpet?
I heard noises like a small pump noise and a hissing air sound above the muffler area. The car had been sitting for hours and no key fob close to it. I was climbing under it looking at something else when I heard it. Sounds like a tiny electric motor running with an air hiss. Passenger side. Just bought the vehicle last week. It has 27k miles on it. Had to replace battery the other day. Said battery was replaced a year ago. Wonder if this is hurting the battery? Start great in the morning. Vapor fuel pump?
View 4 Replies2007 3.6 Wagon Sport. My wife has the 18" Samarklan wheels and automatic transmission. We have complained to the dealer since the beginning with only the "you need new tires" response. Well we got new tires last year and the noise was the same. I've had 18" on my old '00 S4 and current '00 A8 with nothing near this amount of noise.
The sound is most like a groan and doesn't seem to be coming from the engine. It's seem most noticeable at lower speeds coming/coasting to a stop, but does not seem to vary with or without braking. It doesn't seem to vary based on turning either.
I don't ride in her car much, but am always shocked how loud it is when I do, as it's so dramatically louder. Also the HVAC 'percolates' constantly which is generally only noticeable at idle. This is a small, secondary concern. I everyone's Passat really this loud?
My 2010 RX350 started to make 'hum - hum - hum' noise whiling turning. It is fine while driving straight, only makes this noise while on a curve. If I disable traction control, the noise seems going away, at least it is a lot less.

View 3 RepliesI keep my 2015 RX 350 in the garage, and last night I noticed a humming or buzzing noise coming from it. I switched the ignition to accessory position and turned it off and the noise stopped. A search here turned up many discussions noting is is the gas evaporation leakage check valve and it is a normal function of the vehicle. My question, is this some sort of pump that is running and causing battery drain?
View 3 RepliesI am on my third RX now with my 2014 RX350. Previous to this car I had a 2007 RX400H which I loved. I find this new car much noisier when on pavement than my RX400H. Noticed the interior noise on the 2014 to be quite loud. I compared to my wifes Mercedes ML350 also a 2014 too and it's much louder.
View 10 RepliesJust a couple of months ago, I bought a 2010 RX350 CPO, and the car seems to have developed a strange issue. When I brake and come to a stop, it sounds almost like a choo-choo train coming from the back of the car. That's the best way I can describe it. A few thumps/chugs spaced apart as I am applying the brakes to come to a stop.
What this might be? Annoying that I already need to bring this in for service, but I suppose that's what I'll need to do. Would seem like a warranty issue, but either way, the dealer better take care of this without charge.
I'm looking for a practical , reliable and economical car for work. I drive around 50-70 miles a day in new York city traffic. I'm going to look at a 2000 Toyota echo with 80k on it tomorrow. I need my next car to last me 5-10 years. I have done some research on these cars and I haven't really heard anything bad about them except for excessive road noise and wind vulnerability. Is the echo going to be the right car for my needs? Anything I should know going in to tomorrow?
View 11 RepliesWe have a 2010 RX350. It makes a noise at a strange time. While in the garage with the engine off sometimes it makes a humming noise. The noise can last up to five minutes. It sounds like it could be coming from the back but not positive. The car has not been operated for several hours when the noise occurs. If I start the engine and immediately cut it off the noise goes away. I know that it will never do this if I take it to the Lexus dealership.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2011 bought new. The car has had every service and recommended service at the original Lexus dealer Sithtown Lexus on Long Island. The car developed a tapping noise at about 30,000 miles. Every service I tell the service dept and they always tell me its normal? Problem is the noise doesn't go away after the car is warmed up. It is always there no matter how much I drive it. I have heard some members say the dealers say its the fuel injectors making noise but this seems to be slowly getting louder . The car has 53000 miles now and I am getting the impression the dealer IE Lexus is trying to avoid a major engine job until after the 60000 mile engine warranty is up. How do I get this taken care of , they seem to be adamant about it being normal.

winter has been tough here in the north with -30 Celsius (-22 F) every other week. when it's that cold there's squeaking noise from the dashboard / windshield area. mainly from the intersection of both.
Once the car is out of the garage it's ok for a few minutes then noise starts. this only happens if the weather is colder than -10 C (14 F) (i can't blame the car as my bones squeak when it's colder than-10 ) This is definitely an expansion/contraction issue.
The dealer indicated that they will have to remove the dashboard to fix the problem and recommended that I wait towards the end of the warranty, observe other issues and fix all at once as multiple removal of the dashboard may bring new problems (i.e. snapped pieces may get loose).
Have noticed a thumping noise when braking at a Low speed on my 2013 RX 350. Brought it to the attention of my Lexus service mgr at the 5000 mile service. He did a test ride and heard the same thumping sound. He then test drove another 2013 RX at the dealership which made the same noise.
View 14 RepliesIt's only at higher speeds ( read highway travel ) that I have an issue with the road noise intruding into the cabin....mostly emanating from the rear, as best I can tell. I can live with it but I prefer not to.
I took my car to a buddy who operates a shop dealing with high-end stereo conversions, etc. Surprisingly, he said he deals with these issues all the time....including vehicles in all price ranges. He uses a product that he claims to be very effective at deadening the transfer of road noises. I had him look over my SF and make recommendations.
The product comes in fairly large sheets that are easily trimmed to conform to the spaces being treated. These sheets appear to be some sort of rubber based material. The product is applied to the inner surfaces of the car's exterior metal. Once applied ( primarily a gluing-on process ) the stuff adheres there, according to him, " for life ".
For application, he has to remove all the interior plastic pieces so he can get to the exposed body metal behind them. In my case, he would also do the rear doors so the interior door panels on those doors will also come off. Once he has access to all the areas he wants to get at, he preps the metal and glues on the product. According to him, getting all the plastic parts and door panels off, and then back on, is a snap.
Is it all the lexus rx350 had that noise? From the day I noticed hissing noise when I gentally press the brake pedal down and release it . And same noise can be heard when drive slowly and release gas pedal.
