I got a 2010 with 58 k miles that when I turn on the car in the morning have a an electrical cracking sound coming from the steering wheel. What could it be?
View 13 RepliesIn my 2006 Prius, I just started noticing this recently, but whenever I turn my steering wheel, it makes a weird noise and I can feel something going on through the steering wheel. It doesn't impede my steering, the car steers just fine... It's just an add sound, I don't want to say a cracking sound... but it kind of is? I don't know. I'll have to put a video of it up. & it doesn't matter which way I turn it, it still makes the weird sound and the intermittent vibration... I know it has E-steering and occasionally you can here the motor whirring when you turn it but this is different, it's a loud... popping noise is the word for it! Popping, and I can feel it when it pops through the steering wheel. Again, it doesn't impede the steering ability at all, but something isn't right I'm sure... Or maybe it's normal.

View 6 RepliesIn the past few weeks I have noticed that as I turn the ignition of my 2007 Honda Accord, I hear a strange electrical arcing/clicking sound coming from the steering column. The car starts normally and the sound goes away once the engine has started. I have taken the car to my mechanic and had the ignition checked out and they could not find anything wrong. How to identify the source of this noise/fault?
View 4 Repliesthere's a noise that sounds like a seagull coming from under the hood near the steering wheel. Turns out it's the vacuum brake accumulator & there was a recall on this. Unfortunately I had the part replaced back in 02, so Montero won't fix it a second time. I only use the vehicle on the weekends & didn't see any reduction in the brake performance so I put the repair off. That was over a year ago. How important is it to fix this? Other than the really odd noise there doesn't seem to be an issue.... I'm just trying to decide the future of my truck since the transfer case is gone & I can't use 4wd or AWD and more. That's been broken & flashing about a year too.. On top of that the AC is broken & now there's a light tapping noise whenever the car is in gear, but not in park.. I really love my truck but am losing hope. Everyone says it's not worth fixing. 140,000 miles.
View 19 RepliesI have a 97 F150 that I just got a few weeks ago. I was driving home Wed. night when the 4x4 low range light would come on and off intermittently I had it in 2h the whole time. I went online and couldn't really find anything on it. So I get up to go to work on Thursday and the truck wouldn't even turn over. The battery was dead. I have put in a new one but now after turning the truck off I hear a clicking sound coming from the steering wheel. What this may be?
View 3 RepliesTook delivery of my 2015 GTI a few weeks ago. Overall the car is great, but I have a feeling the tires that came with it just plain suck. They are Pirelli P7 Cinturato A/S. According to Tire Rack, these are grand touring tires?! Not exactly what I'd expect to be put on a GTI. Anyway, I've noticed that at almost exactly between 60mph-70mph there is a "whine" sound coming from them, also just the slightest vibration in the steering wheel. At every other speed they are relatively quiet and the wheel is absolutely dead solid, no vibration. Could these tires just be of relatively poor quality? Should I have them put on a balancing machine to see if everything checks out? I'm assuming these were balanced on a Road Force machine at the factory since that is the OEM for VW/Audi, but I'm not 100% sure obviously.
View 16 RepliesToday I am getting a "squeaking rubber" sound coming inside the car from the steering wheel when its turned. Not from under the hood! We had a sudden temperature drop over night but this has never happened before. Car has over 180K on it. Power steering fluid is between the lines. I don't see any plastic that is rubbing.
View 2 RepliesI just recently bought a 2000 Explorer, 4.0 OHV, 4x4 with about 150,000 miles.
I've had the vehicle for about a month, and ever since I bought it, it's had a grinding sound (sounded like wheel bearing) coming from the front right side. I replaced both right and left bearing/hub assemblies, and took it out for a drive. The initial sound that I thought was bearing noise is still there, and at about 65mph I started to get a little bit of steering wheel shake. I took my foot off the gas and it stopped. I accelerated up to about 70mph and it seemed ok.
I hit a VERY small bump in the road and the steering wheel started shaking like hell. So bad that I almost lost control. I slammed the brakes and the shake stopped instantly. I took it home and put it up in the air, half expecting to see something loose or broken, and everything looks perfect. I re-torqued everything that I had taken apart for the initial hub/bearing replacement, and took it out again. Same issues.
I never had ANY of these problems before I replaced the hub/bearing assemblies, so I'm completely confused. I was thinking CV joints, but I have no clicking at all when turning, in forward or reverse, everything is smooth. Outer tie rods were done about 6 weeks ago..
I have been little irritated with my noisy/rattling sound ride coming from passenger dash, my steering wheel area and some time front passenger belt. I have taken it to dealership and they could not hear anything so they duplicate the problem and no cation was taken. But they found out passenger side ball joint was loose , so they replaced that under warranty.
I wanna know if everyone sonata makes that noise when you go over little bumps on road, rail track crossing ? it just irritates me too much,,how ever the rattle/noise is not much, i cant hear if i have music on.
Yesterday I tapped on passenger side dash and there was a after tapping noise, like vibration. I don't know if its loose plastic or what. I am not able to detect the exact location where the noise coming from. but i am sure one noise is coming from steering wheel on every tiny bumps.
I want to fix it by myself now, cause sometimes noise is there and sometime not. Is there any way to detect the noise ? Noise- more like plastic noise, like loose plastic, hinges squeaking sound, rattling sound.
See photo. My 2007 ES350 has a plastic coating over the radio controls that is peeling off. Looks ghetto. Is there a product I could use to replace this or at least make it look less ghetto?

I have noticed that when I start the engine on a cold morning and start driving right away I hear a distinct "cracking" sound from behind the air vents (dash area) when accelerating. This only occurs when the engine is cold and when I am accelerating, this does not occur when the car is parked (I have not tried revving the engine when the car is parked, since it doesn't seem like a good idea).
A a side note, I do typically move the temperature setting to the max of 85 degrees on cold mornings, but the cracking sound often comes up 5-10 minutes after I change the temperature setting. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it.
The other week, I encountered a creaking or rattling noise coming from my speedometer/steering wheel area. I didn't do anything do the area and don't drive my car hard. Since then, it has gone away.

I have a 2003 F150 manual 4WD with 4.6L engine and 165000 miles. When i am driving i feel a vibration in the steering wheel and on floor board that intensifies when i press the accelerator. I do hear an irregular humming that sounds like it is coming from the driver side front. I checked the wheel for any play but it was very tight. i check tie rod ends, ball joints no play. i recently changed both u-joints on the rear shaft and the bearing hub on the passenger side front. Also, the steering feels a little 'wobbly' when i make sharp turns. it almost feels like it is giving. What else should i check?
View 1 RepliesI have an 07 GS 350. When I'm driving on any winding road, every time I turn the wheel to the right, I hear a kind of scraping sound for as long as the steering wheel is turned even a little. It's only when I turn the wheel to the right and only and only the front left tire.
I thought it might be the disc brake dust shield, but I pulled the tire off, took a look, and can see that it isn't touching the rotor anywhere. There really isn't much else that I can think of that it could be, so I'm basically stumped. The brake pads are nice and thick and everything looks really good.
My car (2014 IS250 F-Sport) has been making this weird noise thats hard to put into words every time the steering wheel is being turned to just before its maximum rotation. It sounds kinda like an old car driving over the speed bump. The noise only comes on in the first turn and then its gone. The car has to be moving at a very low speed too, I only hear it turning into my driveway (no bumps what so ever). Has absolutely no effect on the driving characteristic of the vehicle. What or where it might coming from?
View 8 RepliesThis is a known issue with Lexus. Bring your Lovely RX to the dealer so they can replace the Steering wheel column, so it will stop the "Squeak" noise.
