Lexus RX 2004-09 :: Water Inside The Fog Light Housing
Dec 8, 2015
Just bought a 2009 RX 350 in Bamboo Green.
I have an 09 2nd Gen RX with water in the fog light housing, the bulb has blown as well so there's shattered glass inside.

So it's been raining here a lot on the East Coast lately, especially in NJ and last night after getting out of work there were some few small floods I had to go through in order for me to get back home. This morning as I walked around my car to check if everything was OK I noticed that my fog's has water inside the housing. How do I go about drying them out or should I take it to the dealer and have them fix it for me.
View 17 RepliesI noticed one of my tail lights has water inside, so there is some leak. I first noticed it after a touchless car wash.
How do I remove the tail light assembly so I can inspect it and dry out the water?
What's the best way to seal the hole (if there is one) causing the leak?
I have a 2002 Subaru Outback. The rear right brake light housing cracked, and filled up with water, shorting the bulbs. I thought I was clever in taking the light unit off, draining the water, changing the bulbs, and caulking the crack with silicon. This worked for a while, then the battery died. I couldn't really figure out why - it was a year old, and had no prior issues starting the car. I swapped out the battery for a brand new one, and that seemed to solve the issue for a week. Then the car refused to start all over again. I remembered the brake light, checked it - filled again. So I replaced the unit and the pig electric line, and charge the battery. This seemed to solve the problem, but then the car failed to start after about 3 weeks.
One additional detail is the dial light switch on the driving shaft. One is able to turn this to adjust light settings. Regardless of position, the lights turn off when I turn off the car. However, failure to start seems to be additionally related to the position of this switch; if it's switched all the way back towards the driver the car appears to start consistently for weeks on end, BUT the tail lights fail to turn on in this position (though the brake lights work). Alternatively, dialing the switch all the way away from the driver turns on the tail lights, but seems to be related to battery drain.
I've checked the health of the battery and the contacts - everything checks out. At this point I'm wondering if it's an electrical fault or the alternator.
This may be related to some posts I've studied but I'm still at a loss. My wife observed moisture inside one of the tail lights on her 2006 RX330. Upon further inspection, I noticed water standing in the lower section inside the outer cover over an inch high. After reviewing all of the posts about bugs in them, moisture in them, how to remove them, and whether the outside cover can be removed, I pulled it out looking for any cracks, etc to figure out how that much water is getting in since it hasn't been wet in over a week at least and no downpours, major things like a car wash...nothing. I'm still at a loss. I know that I could rotate it carefully 360 degrees without water escaping which meant the out cover was still sealed pretty good. I then rotated it to flat and the water poured out thru the electrical circuit board/bulb area. Could this be related to the same cause behind the headlight pseudo recall/replacement? Which way to go as I can find no signs of how the water got there.
View 2 RepliesAfter my last car wash this happened and it's been like this a few days now, how to get rid of it. I can't really afford to drop $1000 on a new headlight. I've heard of the baking method but not sure I would trust myself to do that. Any tricks?
View 10 RepliesHaving the problem my RC 350 has: after a car wash or rain, water seems to stay inside the door. If I roll down the window and roll it back up, the outside surface of the window is soaked. It seems like water is trapped in the door for several days. This can't be normal!?!?
View 9 RepliesI am using Lexus GS-300 2006, I have problem with Aircon have leaking water inside both Driver and Passenger. And I cannot find where is the Drain Tube.
View 2 RepliesI have a v6 se 2013, and I just happen to see that there is some water drops inside my right fog light, I change my bulbs like a month ago, is that the reason? And if it is and I take it to the dealer would they avoid my warranty.

View 2 RepliesI have a 2005 Prius and there is water coming into the drivers side floor. We believe this may have been going on for awhile and didn't realize it. My son drove the car and there was a "smell" that started about a year ago and I thought he spilled something inside the car.
View 7 RepliesI went to push that bastard in yesterday (gently) and I felt something pop behind it - the button depressed, went crooked inside the cup holder housing and now won't "un-depress" and the cup holder won't "rise" back up. I've tried messing with it, but to no avail. Car's in for the 30K service, asked VW to take a look at it - I know its "only" a cup holder, so I'm not bent out of shape over this.
View 6 RepliesOn the 06 Prius I have been working on, I noticed a light build up of pink coolant residue on the inside of the ICE water pump pulley. I assumed that this was due to a coolant leak from the weep hole, which points to an impending water pump failure.
View 16 RepliesI was changing out the little parking light bulbs outside of the housing with led bulb and it fell into the housing of the headlights!! Wow my luck do I have to remove the whole bumper to get this bulb out of the housing?
View 6 RepliesMy 2004 RX330 which has gone many years without a problem suddenly has instrument panel gremlins.
I started the car a couple of days ago (it had rained during the day), and the airbag light did not turn off. Then the TPMS warning light came on, the water temperature gauge dropped to zero. The AC controls stopped responding. Since I needed to get home, and the car seemed otherwise fine, I drove home, after a few minutes the transmission "D" drive light went blank and the instrument back-light went to full brightness.
A few minutes later, all the warning lights went off and the back-light went back to normal. The AC controls still seemed to be off. A few minutes later the airbag warning light came back on, followed by the TPMS light and the back-light went to full brightness again. This cycle kept happening all the way home.
The next morning, hoping the problem had been some errant water getting into something, I started the car, opened the driver's door to get something and got back into the car, closing the door. The light showing the door was open stayed on. I put the car into reverse, the doors did not automatically lock as they usually do. I turned off the engine and restarted it, most of the other lights were off, the doors would lock; airbag & TPMS light came back on.
It has stayed that way, except I also get the A/T temperature warning light coming on periodically, and after some cycle it goes off.
I borrowed a car code reader, it does not seem to show any error codes. In reading some other postings it has been suggested that the Brake light switch is the cause, but the brake lights come on/off without any problem.
I was replacing the side marker lamp on the passenger side. It was super hard to get my hand in there to get it out! The problem is when I was trying to reinsert it, the bulb slipped out of the socket. I think it fell inside the housing. So it looks like I'm going to have remove the headlight housing to get it out.
View 13 Replies2005 Toyota Sienna minivan. Neighbor brings it by my house for a headlamp bulb.Rt head lamp low beam is out. Access is easy with the hood open.Rt Headlamp lens housing has moisture inside, left does not.Bulb is not broken or shatterd, it is in one piece. Before we spend $76 for an HID bulb, I have questions on the HID system. Is it that simple..just a bulb..or is there electronic controls involved that could be the culprit?Did the moisture take out the bulb in the first place ? ( halogen bulbs explode when wet ) or cause a chort in the electronics ? I already told her we need to take out the lens body and find and seal the leak and dry it out but I'm curious about the HID system.Do I dare just put 12v to the bulb ( #D2R 35w ) to test it or is that a bad idea with HID ?....( my best Ford tech to ask is off today )
View 2 RepliesI had the OEM projector fogs installed today, as well as the rear fog and Euroswitch (will post pics soon!). I love the look of the lights off just as much as on - such a great mod! My only concern is that there is some kind of haze (almost like condensation, but not) on the inside of the driver's side housing. It doesn't appear to obstruct the light, but it is clearly visible when the fogs are on. What this might be?
View 2 RepliesI was trying to replace the bulbs in the running board and the first bulb I tried to replace when reinserting the bulb came loose and fell in the housing.
Is there anyway to remove the running board light assembly or how to get the bulb out of there?
My water pump housing is leaking. My 09 is well out of warranty but that's not really my question. I would like to know what you did when you replaced your water pump. did you upgrade to a metal impeller pump such as the GEBA brand?
