Lexus RX 2004-09 :: Squeaky Belt Noise When Wet (rain)
Aug 13, 2014
It's fine when it's dry...is it usually just the serpentine belt? Is this a common issue? Just want to make sure before i replace it.

View 6 RepliesI have a 2002 Kia Sedona Mini van and it runs real well except for when it rains. i will get the dreaded squeeky belt from time to time while driving in the rain and the van just doesn't seem to run as smoothly...is that possible?
View 5 RepliesMy belt was making a screaming squeaky noise to wake up the dead. I used dish soap on it and it got quiet as long as I remember to bring the dish soap. My mechanic looked at my AC and told me I need a new compressor (he is a friend I trust) Now the AC comp turns but the belt seems to go on and off. And, the weird thing is-the AC feels great! Am I to expect any moment for it to just stop working? So, what to expect from my dead or dying compressor?

View 9 RepliesMy tensioner pulley is making noise.I replaced the rear idler pulley (can't get to the front one), but still have the noise. Mention a DIY for replacing the tensioner pulley bearing. A part number for the bearing?
View 2 RepliesSo from reading around a lot, it seems like the chirping is from the belt tensioner or idler pulley. That said, I've not been able to find anything definitive. I tried to do the water bottle squirt test (from Gates' youtube video) and either I did it wrong or the chirp did not go away implying the issue is not the belt. While I was looking in, I could see the tensioner shaking some.
If my tensioner should not be moving, do I just need the pulley or the pulley and the mount?
- Pulley [URL] ....
- Pulley and mount [URL] ....
Also, if the above items will fix the chirp, which brand would be best?
2007 RX 350, 113K.
Chirping gets worse as it heats up. Seems to happen independent of ambient temperature. Purchased a year ago so unsure of the history of part changes.
Few weeks ago I bought my first Lexus, an '07 GX 470. It has roughly 75,000 miles on it, 2 previous owners before me. Anyway, I hear a noise sometimes which either sounds like a slight belt slip or fuel being pumped into the injectors when I give it a good amount of gas and the engine downshifts to accelerate. I had the dealer replace the drive belt(serpentine belt) because of 2 reasons, it needed to be replaced and I thought that could be the problem(I did not have to pay for it since I have had some problems with the Lexus dealership I bought it from, they did it as a "goodwill" gesture, that's a story for another thread) and inspect the tensioner and pulleys, they said the pulleys and tensioner were in good working order.
I drove the GX home tonight after said replacement, and I still noticed the same noise. The best I can describe it is like I said above, a slight belt slipping noise or it could also be described I guess as fuel being injected under acceleration as soon as the trans downshifts to accelerate. I am just curious if this is normal for this engine or do I have a possible problem? It's covered under the Lexus used car warranty for another 5 months so if there is something wrong, obviously I would like it fixed under warranty if something is wrong. One thing I should probably mention is, the noise is semi quiet and I guess the average person might not even notice it.
My 2008 GS 460 with 53k steering wheel makes a squeaky noise when I turn the car on and it moves to it's memory position, but only during the heat.
View 4 RepliesHave loud squeaky brakes noise when coming to a stop? It is very annoying. I took it into the dealer and they were able to identify a problem, but Lexus has no fix for it yet... have 3K on the car now...
View 14 RepliesI have a '07 RX350. My steering wheel recently started having a squeaking noise when you turn it right, or left. This has nothing to do with the motor to extend or retract. You can hear the noise when you turn it ever so slightly back and forth (whether car is running, or not). I have seen other threads that talk about a grommet needing greese between the steering wheel and column, but not enough detail for me to determine what they mean. Also, if that's the case, I am not sure how you get to tha area?
View 4 RepliesI have a 2003 f150 4.2 v8. and i have a squeaky belt I am almost positive its the belt i went to change it today but being sick, cold (NY), getting dark having just worked 10 hrs and changing oil it was not going well.
The reason I think its the belt it does not squeak when its really cold out but once it warms up a little its back so I am thinking when it gets warm it stretches out a little and when its cold it shrinks up or am I just crazy..
Long story short, I had to replace an alternator and I thought while I was at the shop already, and might as well get both belts replaced. (The Echo has a belt for power steering and a serpentine belt). After the shop replaced theses 3 thing. I drove off, alternator worked, belts didn't make noise. Then a week later, I got the infamous squeaky belt sounds while starting up the car. I've been trying to track down this sounds for a while now. And I found out it only come on when the engine is cold and when I'm driving with the engine cold.
I promise you that my belts made no noise before the belt change. Is it possible the shop didn't put the belt correctly? Also, I'm not that mechanically inclined, what causes belt the squeak anyways?
I have a 2006 Honda Ridgeline with just shy of 120,000 miles on it. I love this little truck and have have no real problems with it at all, except the drivers seat belt. The problem is that when you pull the seat belt out to put it on, it squeals so loudly that it hurts my ears! Obviously I can't squirt oil on it, but is there anything that can be done to quiet it down without affecting its function?
View 1 Replies2001 Echo. I have a squeaky belt that gets louder when the engine fan goes on. What drives that fan and causes the noise?
View 3 RepliesI have problem with my brake system. When is comes to last 10 feet to a stop light always make this squeaky noise/high pitch noise. Brought it to the dealer for few times and they said this is a high-performance brake that's why there is these type of sound. I have a 2014 IS350.
View 5 RepliesI bought a 2005 Prius base model with under 77K mi. A month after owning it, and about the time the weather got hot enough to need AC, I started hearing a squeaky moan (ish) noise coming from the ac unit when switching it on or off.
I took it in to the Nissan dealership and they listened and ID'd the noise as the "blender", and told me it was nothing to be concerned about (I do not believe that) and it's just a normal blender noise for an 11 year old car.
I think they didn't want to deal with it at all. (not that I'd want to spend the money, either, because so far the AC is working fine, but I can't shake the concept that it shouldn't be making that sort of noise at all (it wasn't there when I bought it) . I think it IS something that will lead to needing some sort of repair. Should I bring it somewhere else once my warranty is up?
What I am talking about? Should I be worried about this sound? (which seems to be getting ever so slightly louder each time).
1990 Dodge Caravan ... I replaced belt, idler pulley, tensioner pulley. The serpentine belt comes off when it rains.
View 9 RepliesMy 330 had a new windshield installed prior to purchase and shortly after, the rain sensor module came loose. Cleaned things up and epoxied bracket in place, and about a year later it came loose again. Seems temperature related - a hot sunny day and the epoxy loses adhesion. I'm ready to try again but at odds as to what adhesive to use. Any long term successes out there?
View 5 RepliesThe A pillar on the driver side started leaking during a heavy rain. The water leak started where there is a seam on the A pillar. My RX stays outside and I would not surprised if a vent tube or hole has clogged up and thus made the water back up instead of draining but that is just a guess.
View 2 RepliesMy XC70 makes a weird whistling type noise in heavy rains that last a long time. It doesn't do it in light rains, or rains that are heavier but don't flood roads or collect water on the shoulder or slow lanes, only the really heavy, hard to find the road type.
There are no warning lights when it happens, turning off everything, except the car and windshield wipers, doesn't work. Pulling off the road, works after about 30 seconds, but then we start again, and it continues. This is only happening during really heavy rains, is scary, and I don't have a clue what it's doing or why nor does my mechanic.
I have changed belts on other cars just never a Lexs. how hard is it to do on or trucks?
