2004 RX 330. Steering functions fine but sometimes when I'm parking or pulling out I can hear a little snap,, not like a bad sound but more like a little play in the linkage or something.
View 1 RepliesI was pulling out of a parking lot making a sharp turn when all the sudden I lost my power steering. I have a '94 Ford Ranger manual transmission. It didn't make any sounds. I was going to try to keep adding power steering fluid to it and try to get it home to my mechanic in my hometown - but it drips constant liquid when I drive it down the street (you can see drips) so I don't think that's possible. I've read a lot on here about gear boxes failing, but would this cause it to leak even if the truck wasn't running? (the puddle builds quickly when its just sitting there, engine off). I took it to a mechanic (I don't have tools), and they said they can't say anything for sure until they look around, it could be seals or a new gear box.

When accelerating hard, the car will aggressively drift to the right. During normal driving it is otherwise fine.
When braking from 60-70mph, I will also get a significant vibration in the steering wheel.
What can be the issue here? I've read possible brake rotor, tire out of balance, alignment?
Are these 2 issues connected?
I have a 2014 RX350 with 20K miles.
Recently noticed the steering wheel pulling a bit to the right. I took the car to a local Conrad's Auto service place which I believe is very reputable.
They told me the vehicle is out of alignment and to contact my Lexus dealer because they would likely fix for no charge given the low miles.
I brought the car to Lexus dealer and they said nothing is wrong. Not sure if they did anything but I did not notice the pulling to the right at that time.
However, I am noticing the wheel pull to the right again. Not sure what to do here. I also had a 2011 RX and never noticed an issue.
What can I do here to determine if there's a problem or not?
My Lexus dealer is over 30 miles away so it's not a convenient drive. Also, I have no proof of anything just the wheel pulling a bit to the right.
I own a 2015 LX570 with just 8000 miles on it. Been having an issue with my steering position. Every time im on a straight road the car seems to be pulling to the left side if my steering wheel is placed exactly to the center. At first i thought it was an alignment issue as i took it several times to the dealer and they just tell me that there is nothing wrong with it and it drives accurately straight until one time a guy from the dealer came and checked it himself with me and realized the issue and told me that its not an alignment issue its something related to the the electrical steering position not being accurate (( that's what he said)). They took it in and made it accurate as they say, to be honest its not really accurate but much better than before until last week when it became worse and like how it was before, pulling hard to the left, its like if i want to drive straight i need to pull the steering wheel slightly to the right.
View 1 RepliesRecently I revived my '98 S10 Blazer after it had been hibernating in my backyard for about a year. After getting it started I proceeded to reverse out of my driveway and as soon as I hit the brakes and tried to shift into drive I heard a pop/snap sound from the steering column and it would not shift out of reverse. In fact, the gear selection indicator light is no longer present but the rest of the gear display is lit up.
Also the shift lever feels different... not quite floppy, but it doesn't have the same resistance like it used to. I then proceeded to restart the car, but of course it won't fire up again because it is now stuck in reverse despite what position the shift lever is in. I've removed the steering column cover, but everything appears to be ok there, and the shift linkage looks OK at least until it goes into the firewall (haven't traced it all the way to the tranny).
This started a few days ago. I noticed it as I was getting home and parking. The next morning I started the car and tried to replicate the sound and it was gone. It came back later in the day though. I'm not sure what it could be, but it sounds like it's coming from the passenger side and I've only heard it after the car has warmed up. That noise started about a month ago

So the other day my wife was pulling out of a parking lot when the car shut off. She then restarted it and sat in the parking lot for a little till she then drove back home.
I have been sick so haven't had much time to figure out whats going on with it. It's not the battery idle problem; I've dealt with that before. So far I have tested the battery and max reading I got was 13 volts.

I just got my new 2011 Prius a week ago and still getting used to it. Yesterday I was pulling out of a parking spot in Reverse when the ICE came on and I felt a slight jolt in the transmission when it happened. Is this normal or should I get it checked out?
View 19 RepliesI have a 99 Buick LeSabre and it died while I was pulling into a parking lot. It wouldn't start back up. I tried listening for the fuel pump and nothing. It's not priming or making any noise. Once I got it home I replaced the fuel pump relay. Still nothing so then I changed the fuel pump. Still nothing. I'm stumped. I'm going to check all the wires tonight to make sure I got them on right. Is there any other relay or fuse on these cars that I can check?

I was pulling out of a parking space and my car was puttering (as if it was going to turn off) then I was pulling out of the parking lot, but when I stepped on the brake pedal, it wouldn't go down! So i put it in reverse ( i was going about 5mph)and circled around and just put in park and turned it off. I didn't even think to use the Ebrake. My son was in the back seat so I just tried to stop it automatically.I've been reading that doing that might have ruined my transmission.
It's a 2001 ford focus SE....
So my car has been at the dealer this week for the 4th day. I have a whining/whirring noise from the rear of the car at cruising speeds of 70mph that goes away with a little throttle and comes back when coasting or at enough throttle to maintain speed. Car must be warmed up to hear it. I know this has been documented on the forum a few times with some getting "it is normal" responses while other have had the diff replaced. They are still diagnosing this but I am not expecting much. I did have the 30k service about 5k miles ago.
Second issue is a creaking noise from steering when stopped or a parking lot speeds. Mostly heard in quarter turns of the wheel. Sounds like it is coming from the column but not really audible from outside. This one the dealer says is normal. Manager says a new MKVII GYI does the same. I haven't verified this yet.
Last, my RNS-315 intermittently does crazy things with my iPhone 6 while listening to music through Bluetooth: Sometimes it will freeze up but I can change to radio and sometimes it will play music through a phone call. Meaning the phone icon is up as if I were on a call with music playing but I can't hang up! I think they are ordering a new head unit.
When move steering wheel left to right just a tiny bit back and forth while the car is shut off or on, does it make any sort of noise in the column?

View 2 RepliesI have a 2003 Variant V6, 34,000 miles - I was pulling out of a parking spot and the car had no "power". but eventually it kicked in..then when I got home I noticed that the brake lights stayed lit...no problem, I pulled the fuse so the battery wold not run out...put the fuse back in for the ride to the dealer, but a block out and again no power - depressing the gas pedal had no effect. Could these be related? The cars been at the dealer all day, they have no clue so far. I had the fuel pump replaced under recall...could it be some sort of electrical problem.
View 4 RepliesDriving home from work around 10pm. Leo started explaining that i had no taillights on but the brakes worked. He was right. I came home and found out my parking light fuse under the steering column was blown. I replaced the mini 10-amp fuse with a spare and they started working again. Then later, they stopped working again. Only thing i have installed electronic upgrade wise is after market LED fog lights(which went out with the parking lights but both came back on with the new fuse) and Navi bypass. What could it be?????

View 2 RepliesIn 2010 i purchased a 2005 Lexus GX470 w/ 52k miles. It had 2 previous owners and you could tell it had been garage keep and most likely not their weekday car because low miles and 3rd row was in mint condition. Up until late last year the car has been great. I use it to tow my boat and the only thing besides regular oil/filters and its 60k checkup was to replace the drive shaft for the TSB/clunk noise on stopping.
I am currently having two issues that have been becoming worse.
1st is the knocking or tapping noise in the engine compartment. Below is a link to the video. This was after driving for approx 15 minutes. It doesn't do it 10/10 times, but is probably happening 1/2 the time now when i drive it. Oil is 10W30 Full Synthetic by MobileOne and just replaced today to see if that changed anything. I purchased 2 replacement knock sensors a few weeks back but haven't had the time to break it down to swap them out. Figured since the belt needs to be done at 90k and my car is 10yrs old I might as well replace the timing belts at the same time. When the AC is on or car is in drive it doesn't knock strangely enough. In the video you can hear the AC click on/off and knock when its off. I'm hoping this isn't a bad engine or rod or something... Thoughts?
2nd is the steering vibration. I noticed there is a TSB on that for replacing the steering column and other parts and assume I should do thing soon as well. Depending on the payment or temperature it will do this at times around 60ish MPH. Again, its not consistent, but is very noticeably while driving when it is. Tires have approx 40% tread remaining and only the driver side tire seems slightly more worn on the inside than the outside.
So I was pulling out of the parking lot at work in first gear going about 10mph when I heard a loud clang and lost power to the wheels, I just had the car towed home and its dark out so i haven't gotten a chance to really take a good look.
My question is, how did this happen? the car is lowered on coils. I also Installed a B&M short shiftier about 3 weeks ago, i doubt it but could that have anything to do with this?
I have done a search on power tail gate issues on 07 Passat wagons. I have not found many. The issue that I have, when the tail gate is fully open to the top and then go to close it, it make a snap noise. In my mine it sounds like a detent lock releasing. It use to do this on in the past on odd occasions. It appears to be more frequent. It does do it if you go to close it right away. My wife even mention yesterday that she noticed it. The operation works just fine.
