I have 04 rx330 with 70 k miles. Lately I started to feel grinding sensation and pulsation on applying the brakes initially it is fine then it will be felt specially when the car comes to near stop
A mechanic looked at it and said bad rotor I replaced with new rotors and pads still doing the same thing, as I inspected the old rotors and pads there was no visible defects.
I just purchased a 04 GX 470 the braking system seems to have a lot of travel and are very sponge. I live in MO and it pasted the state inspection. I check fluid and it is good. It has the electronic braking and 4 wheel disk. Is this normal or should I seek Lexis dealer service. I also have a GS430 and the breaks are right there.
Added info: I do not feel any pulsating in the pedal but there is a pulsation in the SUV when it coming to a stop. Feels as if the rotors may need to be turned but the pulsation is not hard it is smooth.
My drivers seat feels like it moves slightly after applying the brakes and then back on the gas like when you almost come to a full stop. The car is CPO with 22k and new to me so I can't say how long it's been happening. I feel like I remember a similar problem and TSB with the 2 gen IS but I'm not sure. I'm just trying to get some info before taking it to the dealer.
View 14 RepliesWhat could cause this? Its coming from the rear end. It seems to happen if I am going over 45mph and apply the brakes. It feels like a warped rotor, but if braking from 40mph and below, it is smooth. Both rear wheel bearings have been replaced. Tires are new. There was a vibration while cruising between 40&50mph, which was "cured" by the new tires... While replacing the wheel bearing, I noticed some play in the right rear axle at the joint closest to the wheel.

View 14 RepliesMy car is making this noise from the driver's front wheel when applying the brakes and EVEN CLUELESS AND SURPRISINGLY the noise shows up when cruising at low speed (haven't try freeway speed yet) without stepping on the brakes.
This just happened to me tonight, car is around 10,000 miles, I'm going to take it into the dealer to see what the hell is with Lexus. I suspect it might be the rotors and built in brake dusts, I just don't know, but the noise is unusual enough to be concern about.
I doubt it's the built in brake dusts because previously I've not washed my car/ wheel for a longer period of time, but I'm not sure. Could it just be that my rotor is done?
I know the front brakes need a replacement soon, but it shouldn't be my brakes since the noise still shows up even when I don't step on the brake pedal, unless the car brakes for me itself......
I cant take it into the dealer until weekend, hopefully it's safe to drive around within the next 2 days.
So I have a 2004 Jetta 1.8t. Recently I noticed an issue with the brakes. It is a rare occurrence that this issue happens. Maybe 1 out 6 times I slowly stop the brake pedal seems to put pressure back against me applying brake pressure and makes somewhat of a grinding noise and the brakes don't seem to grab as well. But a split second later the brakes return to normal and grab as expected. Could it possibly be air in the brake lines or something totally different?
- Front brakes are in excellent condition.
- Just replaced the driver side front abs sensor and put new rear brakes and rotors on.
2004 F250, I am getting this howling noise when applying the brakes. It sounds like it is from the left front and is more prevalent when applying the brakes down an incline (off ramp, etc) I pulled the wheels off and the pads were probably 50-60% worn. I bought some new pads and installed them and I still get the same noise. I didn't buy the cheap pads, nor the most expensive either. Either way, I can't figure it out. Would I need new rotors? I would think I would have some vibration if the rotors were warped. My other thought was the caliper, but when I replaced the pads it compressed fine and I lubed the slide rails. Not sure what to do at this point. The truck has 94,000 miles on it, FX4, Lariat, Crew Cab, and it has the 5.4L in it.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2010 Dodge Journey which my husband and I purchased a year ago used. Over the course of the year we have been dealing with brake problems. No less than a week after we purchased it, we had it at the dealer for pulsation from the brakes and they turned the front rotors. Still didn't resolve the problem completely and was back again and they turned the rear rotors . 4 months later we're back with the pulsation and I had my front rotors turned again. Wasn't quite happy with that as I still felt the pulsation just not as bad. We decided to just let them be and wait.
Well the pulsation got worse over time and a month ago went to Pep Boys and they replaced my Front pads and rotors, they inspected all four prior to that and told me they all looked fine. But I insisted that the pulsation was pretty bad that even felt it on the steering wheel. They replaced the front ones. Next day I was back because the pulsation was still there, and they machined the rotors incase they were already defective. So long story short what else can be causing this. My tie rod ends do not look to be severely worn to possibly cause this. Getting really tired of this car and all its little quirks and problems honestly.
I just started hearing sort of a howling noise from front end of my 98 cavalier. I also feel a bit of a grinding sensation through my wheel when I start slowing down. I lifted the front tires one by one, checked the play, there's a little on left side and couldn't really feel anything on the right side. I then put the vehicle in neutral and then spun the tires by hand. The right tire spun with ease and the left side was a bit harder to spin. Just wondering if it is the bearings wearing out or if it could be cv joint problems. I also did check the boots on the cv joints for cracks in them but couldn't find anything wrong.
View 3 RepliesI've owned this 2012 Lariat 5.0 for about 6 months (has 49,500 miles on it, approx 6000 are mine).
For awhile, I had kinda thought I sensed a slight vibration/grinding when making right-hand turns. But it seems to be getting more noticeable now. It does not happen with every RH turn, but its not all that rare of an occurrence either. (Does NOT happen with LH turns.)
In addition ............ possibly related, sometimes while breaking, I get a somewhat similar grinding sensation, just before coming to a stop. Again, it does not happen every time.
I tend to think both of these could be a brake issue, but wondered if anything in the driveline could be contributing ? (I should note that I'm in 2-High)
This morning I was driving my 08 Lexus RX350 in fresh snow in Boston area. When I applied brake I noticed the wheel slipping/sliding and I heard brake noise (some sort of cracking noise - I don't know how to define that sound :-). It was fresh snow, may be an inch or two and I was driving around 10 miles. I have to pound on the brakes and it took few seconds before it stopped and I narrowly avoid hitting the suv in front of me.
I was driving with all season tires and ECT snow mode was not on during that time. Could that be a problem?
A week back I replaced the rear brake pads (akebono ceramic) & rotors (raybestos) at a local garage. Will it be a problem with the way it is replaced? or will there be any issue with ABS?
I have a grinding noise coming from what I believe are the front brakes. It happens when I apply the brakes and sounds like the brake pad is worn out and there's metal-on-metal contact but when I checked the pads, they are at 80-90% (rears have about the same amount left). I hear it the loudest just before coming to a full stop, from about 20 mph down to stop. I thought it was caused by rust on the brakes but after I wore off the rust, the sound is still there.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2003 Camry LE 4cly. Approx 150k miles. Car has been a good Camry. About 6 months ago it started to shudder when applying brakes. At first I thought rotors, but it seemed speed dependent. When over 40 it happens more often and more strongly. After the car gets below 10 to 20 the shudder ceases. Front pads are in reasonable shape. Rotating tires does not affect the shudder. Has never effected handling of vehicle. Brakes work without fail, just shudder in front end and steering wheel. I tried flushing the system, had not done that previously. Fluid was yellow, but not black. After the flush, the system seemed to shudder less, but still have the intermittent shudder. There are no error code for ABS, and the light is not on and does not come on.
View 5 RepliesSo having done a single track day, I feel like my rotors must have warped, as there is now a slight vibration when applying the brakes. This is very surprising as I don't do anything out of the ordinary, and tried to use brakes intelligently, including a proper cool down lap and so on. Is this normal? What are my options for making life better? Is there some set of rotors I should get that wouldn't be prone to warping like this? Is it a question of pads?

purchased at about 45,000 miles and always had a slight "hissing " noise when I apply the brake.
Yesterday the car was parked on a very slight incline. Emergency brake was applied. a/c was on . I returned about 5 minutes later and heard a "hissing" type of sound. It seemed to be coming from under the dash on drivers side.
As I put my foot on the brake and shifted into reverse the noise stopped. Today at various times I have the same noise.
I've owned at least 40 cars in the last 50 years and this car has the very worse brakes of all . I've tried all types of pads, etc. The rear cylinders rebuilt about 150,000 miles ago. Master cylinder is original.
I had been hearing bang noise from my front suspension at certain times like when reversing car and applying brakes. It was happening since I bought my car and every time I have complained about it to local VW service guys, I was told by them that they cannot replicate the noise so there is nothing wrong. I even told them to have a look at front suspension bushings but again they said everything is fine.
Last week I went for 45.000KM Service and I complained about the same issue again and luckily this time service advisor heard the noise himself. Next day, they called me to inform that my front lower arm bushings needs to be replaced, front brake pads and discs, and front wheel bearings as well. In my response I told them that bushings were bad for long time and no one figured it out earlier and due to this my front brake discs had abnormal wear along with the wheel bearings.
I am still trying to relate that it is technically possible for brake discs at least to wear off earlier if the suspension bushings are bad as when you apply brakes, the brake discs are stressed heavily as the bushing are not absorbing any stress.
I would like to have thoughts on this matter. Just let me know if my understanding is correct or it does not makes any sense and technically would not be proved.
Just to let you know that it is 3.2 4motion model. My driving is average within 120 KM speed and never hit any potholes etc. Plus my brake pads indicator never went on.
I haven't noticed it before but applying the brakes after driving thru snow I get an awful crunch sound. I have stopped the car a few times to look and it appears the wheel wells are clogged with slush but I don't know if that's whats causing it. After the crunching sound if I'm driving on a clear road there is no noise if I brake. Its much worse than say the crunch you get if the brakes are wet. Whats up with this?

View 11 RepliesJust got the Tiguan SE- love it! We have had it for about 3 weeks. I noticed sometimes while applying the brakes, the RPM's will go up as I am slowing down. I know the car has to move between gears when slowing down or speeding up, but it almost as if it gets "stuck" in a gear when the car is slowing down. Any thoughts, input? We don't drive fast, we apply the brakes and gas slowly to ease the car in. This just seems odd as my past car (2005 Maza 3) did not do this. I am new the VW family so maybe I am just not used this.
